- dienaked, on 02/07/2008, -24/+152When you stuff 6 different kinds of pills down your throat, is that really an accident? I've swallowed bugs on accident, but never 6 kinds of pills at once.
Also, this is why it is much better to be a down and out junkie, rather than a highly paid junkie. When you're broke you can't afford enough drugs at once to OD. - fixty, on 02/07/2008, -1/+68And why the ***** didn't that bag of antlers call 911 immediately?
- LinuxGalore, on 02/07/2008, -8/+66WOW! you can die when you take a ***** load of prescription drugs in a mixed combination at the same time!!. who would have thunk it.
- Flame15, on 02/07/2008, -1/+52"Bag of antlers"? First time I've heard THAT one...
- Eldorian, on 02/07/2008, -0/+50I'm curious as to why someone would call Mary-Kate Olsen instead of 911.
I mean, if I see someone on the floor and being unresponsive, I'm sure Mary-Kate Olsen is the last ***** person that is on my mind to call for help. - JaredXM, on 02/07/2008, -3/+48Have you ever swallowed six different kinds of bugs on accident?
- markbrown, on 02/07/2008, -17/+58He will be missed.
RIP - padrebuf, on 02/07/2008, -4/+44am i missing something: mary-kate olsen?
- greenlight2001, on 02/07/2008, -7/+46Nobody said he took all of them at the same time. They were all in his system yes, but they might have been spaced out over the entire day or two. It was the reaction of all of them playing into each other that killed him. I highly doubt you took a handful of pills all at once.
- Agrunt007, on 02/07/2008, -10/+43So taking 6 different drugs in 24-48 hours is normal? Why Xanax AND Valium? Why Percocet AND Oxycontin? In both instances he's taking two separate meds that treat the same condition-albeit to different degrees. He was getting high. Period. He lost the game. Game Over. Shame is his kid will never know their dad.
- InspectorGadget, on 02/07/2008, -10/+43There's nothing accidental about taking six drugs concurrently, of which two are prescription painkillers. Oxycontin (oxycodone) is about on par with morphine - barring the sort of serious injury or pain disorder that would land a person in the hospital anyway, there's NO reason for anyone to take oxycontin. I think its really funny how his family is trying to play this off as an error in taking too much of ordinary medications, rather than the obvious consequence of a recreational pill-popper overdoing it. Instead of casting suspicion on the people giving him medical care (aside from the oxycontin prescription, if he actually had one), they should be warning people to the danger of abusing prescription drugs, particularly powerful depressants and sedatives.
- ninti, on 02/07/2008, -1/+27He had to be doctor shopping. No doctor would prescribe diazepam, temazepam, and alprazolam. They are all from the same family of drugs and all cause respiratory depression, when added together they can cause you to stop breathing. No doctor would prescribe all three, you choose one. Likewise, no doctor would write a prescription for oxycodone AND hydrocodone, which are both opiates and related to each other and also cause respiratory depression. Again, you would pick one. There are a lot of stupid doctors out there, but none are THAT stupid.
- themarq, on 02/07/2008, -5/+25I'd like to be more sympathetic, but I have to wonder; other than celebrities and the very very ill, how many 28year old men are on 5 different prescription drugs at one time? Christ my Grandmother is 95 and she only takes 3 pills a day.
What was so messed up in his body that he had to take a fist full of drugs every day to survive? It's sad, it really is, his poor little girl growing up with her daddy... maybe being a famous movies star isn't as great as it sounds. - bigbill780, on 02/07/2008, -3/+22The list of prescriptions sounded like it would fill the CVS warehouse... im pretty sure thats not an accident.
- T8erT0T, on 02/07/2008, -0/+16Geez Heath! Reminded me of:
"We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a saltshaker half-full of cocaine, and a whole galaxy of uppers, downers, laughers, screamers... Also, a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether, and two dozen amyls. Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get into a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can. The only thing that really worried me was the ether. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge, and I knew we'd get into that rotten stuff pretty soon." - AdonalFoyle, on 02/07/2008, -2/+16you've seen the movie?
- mal1964, on 02/07/2008, -2/+13No "one" doctor would ever prescribe that combination of narcotics to anyone it would be criminal, He like most drug addicts have many doctors and will get one or two from each.
- aceakm, on 02/07/2008, -10/+21Honestly, who cares how he died, it's a shame no matter how you put it, and he will always be remembered, especially for the upcoming Batman film. RIP.
- mal1964, on 02/07/2008, -0/+10It was called a "accidental overdose" I'm guessing because there were bottles of pills everywhere. and if you were to do it on purpose wouldn't you take them all?
- TheUnlearn, on 02/07/2008, -0/+9thank you! that's what i immediately thought. how can anyone presume to know his mindset when he took those pills?
- SantaClauz, on 02/07/2008, -8/+17Yeah, us Amerikans are so fvcking stoopid. Spoken like a true dumbass.
- leamanc, on 02/07/2008, -0/+9Ummm, if he was into weed, he surely would have been taking that. Its legal status was not going to stop him if that was his drug of choice. Clearly, he was into harder stuff.
- UGM2099, on 02/07/2008, -6/+15Sad.. I walk by his place on Broome every afternoon to get my coffee. He's definitely missed.
- greenlight2001, on 02/07/2008, -4/+12I did not say it was normal, I said I doubt he took them all at once as the OP stated. His reasons for taking them may very well have been to kill the edge. Obviously his doctor, or doctors, failed him, or he was buying the on the street. My whole point was that I doubt he was looking to die that day. It was an accident, he played with fire and got burnt, sure, and unfortunately he won't be around to learn the lesson.
- nepawoods, on 02/07/2008, -2/+10If his doctor shoved them down his throat, or even prescribed an overdose.
- alex7575, on 02/07/2008, -4/+12Marijuana is known to be effective against depression w/o any side effects, heroin is known to cause depression, and also known to kill if you overdose, just like all those drugs he was taking.
You fail. - matt03wfu, on 02/07/2008, -21/+29oops, I took oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, temazepam, alprazolam and doxylamine
- leamanc, on 02/07/2008, -0/+8A significantly high dosage of oxycodone (say, an 80 mg pill of Oxycontin taken with its time-release defeated) does indeed chemically change in the brain into something resembling morphine. Whether or not Heath took that amount of oxycodone, we'll never know, but don't kid yourself. They don't call Oxycontin "hillbilly heroin" for nothing.
- Rahodeb, on 02/07/2008, -1/+9Not unless you're trying to get ***** up and overdo it. You don't OD if you're taking medications like they're prescribed.
- blitzer, on 02/07/2008, -2/+10How can anyone know if it was 'accidental' or not...?
- blinker265, on 02/07/2008, -5/+12why couldn't it have been britney?
- rnawky, on 02/07/2008, -3/+10You don't accidentally OD on several different prescription medication and all that other *****.
- TheVirus, on 02/07/2008, -0/+7Yeah, we figured that much out already.
- matthewf01, on 02/07/2008, -1/+8Out of all TWO?
- kieransam, on 02/07/2008, -4/+11Does this mean he wasn't an hero?
- rmw132, on 02/07/2008, -1/+8Why so serious?
- starfisch, on 02/07/2008, -2/+9People will digg you down because you're being very harsh, but It's true, everybody knows the risks of mixing drugs.
- alex7575, on 02/07/2008, -5/+12After that comment, I really doubt anyone will give a ***** if you died...
- explnx, on 04/27/2009, -1/+8I'lll take your word for it, you are the medican examiner after all.
- Servebot, on 02/07/2008, -1/+7anyone that is taking that many kinds of pills knows the dangers of combining them... wtf was he thinking
- rmw132, on 02/07/2008, -0/+6Initial reports said that it was either previously her apartment or her current apartment that Heath was in at the time of his death. The details were confusing.
- InspectorGadget, on 02/07/2008, -5/+11Anybody that spells America with a K = instant fail. Please sell all your wordly possessions (of which there are no doubt many, as you sound like a typical trust-fund white-guilt douchebag), buy Africa another 100 million bags of UN-issue FAIL, and kill yourself to achieve higher consciousness.
- mrfunktastic, on 02/07/2008, -1/+7Bag of Antlers. DUGG for can't love that one enough.
- D3koy, on 02/07/2008, -5/+11oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, temazepam, alprazolam and doxylamine
This guy either had serious problems, or a doctor with an addiction to writing prescriptions - iZealot, on 02/07/2008, -2/+8This was avoidable. He had scripts from both the UK and US. I'm sure a combination of the drugs that were not disclosed by Heath Ledger and not able to be cross checked by the pharmacy (no record) caused the death.
A lesson to disclose your meds (OC, vitamins, supplements and other scripts) to your health care professionals before receiving prescription. - mjn23, on 02/07/2008, -0/+6Actually, I'd say that junkies overdose by accident most of the time. If it wasn't an accident then it would be suicide and most junkies aren't trying to kill themselves.
- Triachus, on 02/07/2008, -0/+5The most poetic thing i've read my entire life.
- ChristBehemoth, on 02/07/2008, -10/+15RIP Heath Ledger.
You shall be remembered as the greatest Joker ever. - explnx, on 04/27/2009, -2/+7Something tells me Brokeback Mountain will be remembered a lot longer. I don't mean that in a disrespectful or sarcastic way.
- zmjone2992, on 02/07/2008, -1/+6lots of people are actually
