Rourke is a badass. Dugg.
The movie is awesome - Rourke was a superb casting for this. His performances throughout the movie are consistent, and solid. Dude deserves some kudos. - AmyVernon, on 01/16/2009, -0/+10I have to give him some grudging respect. He's a good actor and all but destroyed himself; kudos for him to bringing himself back.
- 83JB, on 01/16/2009, -0/+9The Wrestler is a superb piece of work. I have seen it 3 times now and it has stuck with me for days. You don't have to be a fan of wrestling to appreciate this film. Rourke definitely deserves an oscar for his amazing performance in this one.
- Pasaris, on 01/16/2009, -1/+8I'm glad Rourke is making a comeback. He seems sincere. Barfly is still one of the best movies ever made.
- Shellbait, on 01/17/2009, -1/+7If he doesn't win best actor I'm never watching the Oscars again.
- badqat, on 01/16/2009, -3/+9Answer to your hypothetical question: Om nom nom nom...or...it needs to be tapped.
- ThadeousMan, on 01/16/2009, -4/+9Including ... "Why the burned face?"
- ikcilabd, on 01/17/2009, -0/+5Wrestler was real good.. Also looking forward to seeing him in Sin City 2
- Mossman85, on 01/17/2009, -10/+15The eighties ***** ruled, man, until that pussy Cobain came and ***** it all up.
- drchimp, on 01/17/2009, -0/+5Good to see director Darren Aranofsky is also making a comeback after The Fountain, which was good but not great like Pi / Requiem For a Dream / Wrestler.
- GUTTS, on 01/17/2009, -0/+4You sir, seem to be suffering from the everyonethinksitskoolsothatmakesitnotkool syndrome. Take two aspirins and your head out of your ass. Doctors orders!
- vwerf, on 01/17/2009, -0/+4I want to Know: if Marv is such a big guy how come all the leather jackets from the guys he kills fit him perfectly so he can go kill the next guy?
- kplo, on 04/01/2009, -2/+5Funny. I thought Question Number One was "Why is he famous?" which would be fun to ask pretty much anyone...
- pitchblack16, on 01/16/2009, -0/+3Honestly, I never even knew this guy was on rock bottom, I always thought he was on a long ass vacation or something. Good for him indeed.
- inactive, on 01/17/2009, -2/+5awesome line.
- Mujokan, on 01/17/2009, -0/+3I feel kind of confident there'll be a Rourke biopic within the next few years. Definitely an interesting guy.
As for his previous take on wrestling... I think if you take pro-wrestling seriously after about the age of 13 (I mean buy into the stories) you must be kind of a moron. But surely it's always been clear that physically it's hardcore, and that there are great human stories there -- Curt Hennig or whoever. There have been documentaries like "Beyond the Mat". It's quintessentially American. I could probably write an essay on it (which you wouldn't want to read). Sort of surprising Rourke didn't get the depth there earlier. - mikebb79, on 01/17/2009, -0/+3Best question/answer of the interview....
Question 13-Finally, if they made a biopic of your life, who would play you?
"They’d have to get three people to do it because two of them would die..." - BobScratchit, on 01/17/2009, -0/+3This comment could be written about any movie ever made. No references to anything specific. Very general statements. Accomplishes nothing. Bottom line is you did not see this movie and your comment proves it.
- inotocracy, on 01/17/2009, -1/+4He is a great actor, his performance in Sin City as Marv.. wow. Fantastic. Looking forward to this movie.
- Fullvinyl, on 01/17/2009, -0/+2I think that's the point of the film; that there is no hope or redemption to be had for anyone, just sheer, bleak desperation. Redemption can be a cliche as much as anything else.
Honestly, I'm looking forward to seeing it. And not just for Marisa Tomei's ass. - inactive, on 01/17/2009, -0/+2er, try Marisa's Tomei's *****.
- Trollbane, on 01/17/2009, -0/+2I haven't seen it yet, so I'm not going to bury nor digg you up, but your last sentence seems pretty inaccurate considering the critics absolutely love this movie.
- bcook2, on 01/17/2009, -0/+2I like Mickey Rourke, spun was an interesting movie
- jamesmcv, on 01/17/2009, -0/+2You know the point of the film even before seeing it? Impressive.
- GUTTS, on 01/17/2009, -1/+3Just wanna say that based on this interview alone I will now see this movie. He just seems genuine and real. Cant be as bad as all the rest of the garbage in theatres right now.
- chicaneuk, on 01/17/2009, -1/+3Looking forward to seeing this flick.
- b15fliptop, on 01/17/2009, -0/+2It's called opinion, look it up. And just because you "know movies and writing" doesn't make your opinion any more cogent.
- david4041, on 01/18/2009, -0/+1Wasn't he executed in Sin City 1?
- Mister8, on 01/18/2009, -0/+1The story takes place before the events in the first film.
- FernyCeballos, on 03/19/2009, -0/+1Have you seen this yet? It's Mickey in a martial arts film short released last year:
http://digg.com/celebrity/Mickey_Rourke_Guest_Star ...
It's a small part, but the interesting back story is that his martial arts master is the star of the film. - mentorwarrior, on 01/30/2009, -0/+1Rourke has made the biggest omeback since John Travlota. - scar286, on 01/17/2009, -1/+1Check out the Mickey Rourke story I submitted to digg a short time ago:
http://digg.com/celebrity/Mickey_Rourke_Rowdy_Rodd ... - Dvico, on 01/17/2009, -2/+2Bored the crap out of me.
- Eslamicolt3, on 01/17/2009, -2/+2He did a great job in the wrestler, but the guy is kind of a whacko.
- pygmy, on 01/18/2009, -2/+2I was a good movie but #50 in IMDB's Top 250?
Not that good. - frontaxle, on 01/17/2009, -2/+2Hey Mickey. Rough life?
(rhetorical) - TheVoxHumanus, on 01/17/2009, -2/+2People can be wrong, and can be wrong en masse.
- TheVoxHumanus, on 01/17/2009, -2/+1I did see this movie, and I hated it. A lot. I chose not to reference anything specific out of respect for the (apparently many) Diggers who have not yet seen the movie and who might want to enjoy it.
It is my opinion that this is NOT a good movie, and I have a fear that because "all the critics" are saying it IS a good movie that everyone will just kind of agree because they might feel that critics know more than they do about movies (which is probably true, but I've found often times there are waves of praise for a movie like this which, upon closer inspection, are not necessarily deserved.) - TheVoxHumanus, on 01/17/2009, -9/+1Good god I hated this movie. Horrible, predictable, cliched dialogue. Characters with absolutely nothing occuring inside their heads. Stupid unnecessary cinema verite style.
Oh, and why was everything in this movie covered with a fine layer of grease and dust?
Why does the director hate me so much? Why is there absolutely no hope, no redemption, however small...in this movie? WHY WHY WHY?
The only scenes that were enjoyable were the ones that had little to no connection with the main narrative thread.
Mark my words -- I will be Dugg down. This movie is the current "it" thing and I happen to think it sucks completely. I know movies, I know writing, and this is good on neither account.
