- johndi, on 10/29/2009, -0/+10Wow! How did you get that so impossibly wrong? TurboTax gives proper credit to Kiplinger as the source at both the top and bottom of the page.
- nextekcarl, on 10/29/2009, -0/+8What a low threshold they must have for 'oddball'. At least half of these aren't really that unusual or oddball at all.
- Zippo, on 10/29/2009, -0/+7Sucks that you guys get taxed on game show prizes and lottery winnings and inheritance... Really must put a damper on it all.
But what gets me the most is that you even get taxed... on your tax returns. That seems distinctly asinine to me.
Sure, we don't have a lot of game shows up here in Canada... but if I win a car, the only thing I'll have to pay for is licensing and registration. And if I were to win $40 million, I pocket the whole thing. And if grandpa left me his whole life savings, I don't have the government knocking on my door looking to get a piece of the pie. - SirBruce, on 10/29/2009, -0/+6Jerry: So, we're going to make the post office pay for my new stereo, now?
Kramer: It's a write-off for them.
Jerry: How is it a write-off?
Kramer: They just write it off.
Jerry: Write it off what?
Kramer: Jerry all these big companies they write off everything.
Jerry: You don't even know what a write-off is.
Kramer: Do you?
Jerry: No, I don't.
Kramer: But they do - and they are the ones writing it off. - Black6x, on 10/30/2009, -0/+5If you are willing to take the chance, you can write a bunch of your day to day stuff. A lot of these I saw when I was in the Army
Job requires you to be reachable 24/7 and doesn't provide a phone? Write your phone bill off. No need to separate it, since you have to pay the monthly for the upkeep.
Internet access required to access work email and personal documents? Write off the internet connection.
Job requires you to have a professional appearance? Haircuts are written off. Cheap suits because you wear one everyday? Yeah, but don't go buying Armani's
I haven't seen anyone write off television yet.
The hardest part is getting all of these small things to beat out the standard deduction. Fake boobs are hard to justify in an Infantry Platoon. - SexyGeekGirl, on 10/29/2009, -0/+4Stripper by the name of "Chesty Love" LOL
- ToksterJokster, on 10/29/2009, -2/+5I can always use more tax deductions.

- ygugsa295, on 10/30/2009, -0/+1What's the deal with homework-you're not working on your home!
- chadsmith729, on 10/29/2009, -1/+1Anyone else figure out a way to write-off the time I spend on Digg? I make a lot of comments, I may even try to file for Blogging status and a new keyboard to do my work. IRS lighten up, you have a ***** job we know. It's our job to bring some humor to you guys though.
- Wakkyweed, on 10/29/2009, -1/+1I've always wanted to know if I can write off meals at high-end restaurants. Since I'm a chef, shouldn't that qualify as "work-related research"?
- bastardx, on 10/29/2009, -2/+1Marijuana?
- slightlyoffbeat, on 10/29/2009, -6/+3Ya but everything has a catch...in this case its having to live in Canada
