- QuantumBios, on 02/19/2009, -27/+160...a revolution is brewing...
- ptemple2k, on 02/20/2009, -31/+138The bailout was wrong...there would have been economic chaos without collapse if they would have let the banks, investment companies and Fannie Mae die.
Would it not be better for the auto companies to go through bankruptcy and be forced into reorganization than to be loaded with additional government stipulations about everything under the sun?
The economic stimulus plan passed is nothing more than a huge entitlement and pork program. It benefits only the politically connected and is directly aimed at gaining votes in the next election for all the promises to those who do not work, do not care to work, to those who want everything they are "entitled" to handed on a gold spoon.
The housing plan is wrong...it outright rewards those who make poor decisions, live beyond their means and have speculated beyond their knowledge base out of greed.
The economic stimulus plan and the housing plan punish people who try to make responsible decisions in a tough world.
Democrats including Obama have progressively leaned toward big government/socialism since Lyndon Johnson. They are people who think they are entitled.
I am in favor of voting anyone who has been in Congress for more than 8 years out...I'm in favor of making Congress and federal employees revert to Social Security benefits and health care provision like the rest of the citizens...contributing to the cost of both plans.
I am in favor of restructuring legislation--eliminating pork--eliminating political action committees and a host of other unnecessary hindrances to a better functioning government. In other words, you vote only on the legislation not any hidden content.
I am in favor of limiting how much political candidates can spend on campaigns; public representatives should be elected not because they have the deepest bank account but because they are the best representatives for the electorate.
I am tired of President Obama's continued doom speeches and jet setting to sell programs. If a program is good you don't have to sell it to the citizens. For a President who is "green" he sure has used a lot of jet fuel in his first month! - boostviews, on 02/20/2009, -27/+125It's COMING! About time the REAL middle class rises up against the ELITE government
- JKap, on 02/19/2009, -27/+112Hell Yes.
Here ya go:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEZB4taSEoA&eur ... - these3remain, on 02/20/2009, -19/+104Santelli had the guts to tell it like it is. And kudos to CNBC for airing it. I'm sure he'll be getting plenty of hate mail.
I know that not ALL of these folks are irresponsible; I know because I have a sister and brother-in-law who are both out of work through no fault of their own and may face foreclosure. They both have temp jobs but that is not going to float their boat - and unemployment checks pay even less. - Troika37, on 02/20/2009, -14/+75Like Obama's going to listen to the people. He also said he'd post all bills on the web for five days before he signed them. How's THAT working out?
- edstate, on 02/20/2009, -23/+84The Dems blew a HUGE chance here... all they had to do was actually pass a STIMULUS plan, as opposed to this big government boondoggle. As in INCENTIVES to a) work, to b) be responsible, and to c) otherwise participate in the economy. The irony is all they had to do was WAIT a few years and the public would've let them pass all the pork they wanted. Seriously.
But no.
And for those of you who are asking "what should we do instead?" Well, for one we should let the markets do what they SHOULD do: let these idiots FAIL. The banks. The homeowners. The car makers. All of them. "Oh", but you say, "They're too big to fail!"... well then go back five years, and go and GET THE PROFITS BACK from all the banks, the mortgage brokers, the unions, and whomever else benefited from this insanity.
Yeah, I said it. - Troy64, on 02/20/2009, -18/+76I'm there.
I wander if this can make the front page since the original clip has over 500 diggs and still is in upcoming. - inactive, on 02/20/2009, -20/+67Here is why the story is not on the front page I contacted Digg support and here is their answer

Maybe a few more people need to contact Digg! This is just not right!!!!!
http://digg.com/contact/ - inactive, on 02/20/2009, -25/+62yes ***** all the lazy, irresponsible, and greedy people who allowed the greedy busy men to talk them into deals they could never sustain just to get a lifestyle they haven't earned. The country is screaming for movement back towards personal responsibility and smaller government. Having Obama win is the best thing ever to help a libertarian become president since Obama's handout system to lazy and incompetent ***** will anger the hardworking educated people enough to the change the course of the country forever.
- JohnDBandit, on 02/20/2009, -12/+49Digg has become a left-wing liberal socialist site and any article that might show the messiah in a negative light is buried by a large brigade of sheeple that don't or won't even read the articles in question.
When is the collective Obamagasim going to end? And when are the left wingers going to realize that they have screwed themselves as well as the rest of working middle America? - Troy64, on 02/20/2009, -5/+41That is such *****. How could the story be buried without any of the comments being buried.
- inactive, on 02/20/2009, -8/+43Im in.
- taosbob, on 02/20/2009, -12/+42I'm all for being tough on losers, as long as it includes those on Wall Street as well. I doubt that Santelli his cushy post at CNBC if Bear Sterns, AIG, Citibank, Morgan Stanley et al. had been allowed to fail a la Lehman. My tax money went down a rat hole to prop up those larcenous bastards and their gargantuan bonuses. I find Santelli's posturing to be utterly hypocritical in light of Wall Street's reflexive sense of entitlement.
- manoftheisland, on 02/20/2009, -7/+37what do you expect when you elect the #1 and #3 most liberal senators? i hate to say it but i told you so
- Wasatch55, on 02/20/2009, -10/+40We have bankrupt the nation for future generations. The U.S. Government is now a giant Ponzi scheme that will collapse under the weight of the debt. They need everyones money to bail out failed business plans.
- rebrad, on 02/20/2009, -6/+35Just tell me where and when.
- 2Conservative, on 02/20/2009, -13/+42I am one of 92%, hell yes.
- smacksaw, on 02/20/2009, -4/+28Santelli brings up a good point and is focusing the frustration many people feel, but they all forget that if you end up like Fresno or Mesa with everyone in the toilet, your equity is gone as well.
I think we need to be realistic and admit that we created false wealth through artificially high home prices and people who paid their mortgage and were responsible should get bailed out as well. We need a balance. We need a dose of the free market lopping off some of the inflated value but we also need gov't to grease the financial wheels to allow it to have a soft landing.
If you are paying your mortgage, what's the point? I think about my mom who put $50k down on a house and it's worth less than both the payoff AND her equity. It would be nice if the banks ate the mortgages back down to a realistic home value and offset the loss with the bailout. Lost in all this are rules or provisions from letting this happen again once housing becomes affordable, though. - jofwooster, on 02/20/2009, -12/+35Yes!
- ronin4740, on 02/20/2009, -4/+27I'm in, oh so totally in.
- Bloodwine, on 02/20/2009, -6/+28Maybe Obama should've added some sort of incentive to help those who lived within their means and are current on their mortgages?
You know, like force banks to give good borrowers free refi's if the borrower was never late on a mortgage payment, or declare an across-the-board 1%-2% mortage rate reduction for all mortgages.
Something that also helps the good guys. Because as I see it, all the good guys are not only getting screwed by watching others get rewarded for making mistakes, but we're being put on the hook to pay for other people's mistakes.
My wife's Capital One card had a 8.99% fixed APR since she had gotten the card years ago. This month she got a letter saying, "Due to the current economic conditions, we're going to jack up your APR to a 17.99% variable rate so that we can stay in business. Thank You." ... she carries a low balance and has always paid her bill on-time (it's basically being used as a tool to help keep her credit rating up), and this is a total slap in her face.
I wonder if the costs for legitimate refi's and restructurings will go through the roof now that banks will only have incentives to work with troubled mortgages? The banks get rewarded for attempting to fix their mistakes, and the bad borrowers get rewarded for attempting to adjust their out-of-control mortgages. Everybody else is left holding the bag. - anniegirl51, on 02/20/2009, -3/+24NRO did an interview with him yesterday. Santelli told them, he had gotten between 850-900 emails, and that he had three that were negative. That's not bad at all. I figured he would have gotten a lot more.
- vexingmodstwo, on 02/20/2009, -6/+27I'm willing to bet Santelli wasn't too hot on bailing out his "buddies" either.
- RonPauls, on 02/20/2009, -2/+21haha basically exactly what i think except its not politically correct
- anniegirl51, on 02/20/2009, -14/+33You Betcha!...;-)
- Bloodwine, on 02/20/2009, -1/+20people are getting more and more motivated, though.
times were good up until recently, now those who lived beyond their means are paying the price and so are those who lived within their means. Both groups are now disillusioned and looking for answers, and have less patience and understanding. - diggface5000, on 02/20/2009, -1/+19Does it matter? It's really too late for us to contact our reps and complain at that point.
How about giving congress 5 days to read it before voting on it so they can actually get feedback from their constituents. Or is that not their job anymore? - akchrs, on 02/20/2009, -11/+29The MSM is now turning on their little buddy.
- AlyxVance, on 02/20/2009, -16/+33I'm all in!
- thcobbs, on 02/20/2009, -1/+18That's another thing that must die: Political Correctness.
Carlin had it right when he was talking about the "Pussification of America".
I've personally started taking up freelance work in my off time so that I can have a savings cushion when ***** goes south. - danimator02, on 02/20/2009, -15/+31Hell yes, I'd be first in line.
It's not ok to bail out Santelli's buddies, it's not ok to bail out irresponsible borrowers, and it's NOT ok for the state to coerce banks into giving out unsound loans!
What a trade. bHo is piling on DECADES of American debt, in order to avoid six months of painful, but necessary market corrections, after which the economy would come back ROARING.
No wonder he's in such a rush. He NEEDED to get this stimulus ***** passed before the recovery starts on its own.
Capitalism is freedom. Down with the champagne socialists! - BigPapi, on 02/20/2009, -4/+20I'm pissed about the whole thing. Last week I tried to refinance my mortgage but couldn't because the value of of my house dropped enough that the bank couldn't take the risk of my loan in the event that it dropped even further. I've done everything right. Haven't missed a payment ever and have actually paid a few hundred dollars extra to principal each month for the last 2 years. I simply can't get a lower rate right now.
However, if I had some kind of hardship like losing my job, I could walk into the bank and get the rate lowered without refinancing or paying any closing costs - within a few days. The people who caused the home prices to fall are the ones who benefit from this bailout. It's simply not fair to everyone else who have been responsible during that time and have lived within their means. I understand that some people lose their jobs through no fault of their own. But there needs to be some sort of incentive to regular borrowers to keep them happy. - govsucks, on 02/20/2009, -9/+24Digg, showing why collectivism is bad and how collectivists will cover their eyes and ears rather than hear something contrary to the will of the mob.
Group think, not me think - kronzdigg, on 02/20/2009, -12/+27The only thing the federal government will understand is succession (state by state). The feds need to understand where their power is derived and understand their limits (constitution, as understood by the states not by a federal court)
- AnotherDiggGuy, on 02/20/2009, -9/+23Digg is nothing more than a liberal propaganda machine. Pure censorship.
It's next to impossible to get anything anti-Obama to hit the front page.
That is why Digg fails. - inactive, on 02/20/2009, -12/+25Rick Santelli is bringing the philosophical debate to the mainstream. And do you know what it is, should failure be rewarded at the expense of those that were responsible?
That's his whole argument. - vexingmodstwo, on 02/20/2009, -1/+14Secession.
- inactive, on 02/20/2009, -2/+14They hear what people say, they just don't care. The latest package was the manifestation of 8 years of Democratic frustration, don't mistake it for anything but.
- govsucks, on 02/20/2009, -5/+17Well, I'm sorry your sister and brother are having a hard time but my family almost lost our home this year due to the taxes we were hit with. We had to take out a LOAN just to pay our taxes. I have no idea what we are gonna do when the thieving primates come back again this april 15th. Shoot them and burn down our house so the government can't profit from our effort I guess.
I have no debt BTW, aside from my home and this loan to pay these taxes. Government is smothering my family and small business. I paid 10k in SS taxes last year alone for just myself. Something I don't even want to participate in. Isn't collectivism wonderful? - drowningfish, on 02/20/2009, -8/+19I'm growing tired of the grand standing and theatrics. I want alternatives to the measures that are already being pushed through. I do not want to hear about how adding more tax-cuts will solve hunger (figuratively speaking); tax-cuts do not work and have not worked since Reagan-nomics contaminated the country in the 1980's.
Quit the "passionate" screaming from within the belly of the very beast that brought this on to not only our Country but the Globe in general. Let's start hearing ALTERNATIVES. If you have no other options other than ones that have failed then please shut-the-frak-up - farboo, on 02/20/2009, -12/+22Ain't no party like Santelli's tea party.
- OhTheHumanity1, on 02/20/2009, -7/+1793% out of over 170,000. Wow. How deaf is Congress?
- thcobbs, on 02/20/2009, -3/+13Become?
- manoftheisland, on 02/20/2009, -4/+13so you told everyone that this was going to happen set up his investments like it was going to happen and then you are made when he makes money off of him setting up his own money in the proper way? how about you get pissed at the morons who did NOT listen instead of the people who made it through?
- inactive, on 02/20/2009, -2/+11See my post above!
- mrjdavila, on 02/20/2009, -0/+9We don't live in a democracy - we live in a Republic. Meaning we elect our officials who in turn make the decisions for us.
- brokenex, on 02/20/2009, -2/+11God damn right!
- aletoledo, on 02/20/2009, -0/+9I'm still waiting for the troops to start leaving Iraq. I suspect that Obama can't find enough contractors to take their place at the moment, so he's downplaying the whole 16 month withdrawal.
- Bloodwine, on 02/20/2009, -1/+10are you on a public network, such as a college campus? I never get CAPTCHA's anymore. I wonder if certain heavily-used IP blocks are singled out then?
