- chicoer2001, on 03/28/2008, -5/+17What's next? The TSA asking a man to remove the metal rod implanted in his leg.
- radu79, on 03/28/2008, -12/+4Well, in a way I can understand their point of view. For example, if someone really wanted to hijack a plane, they could implant one of those keychain pistols in their breast, then put a ring in the nipple for cover.
Not sure what else could have been done in this case. Maybe some Xray machine or something.- nblsavage, on 03/28/2008, -4/+5how about ***** looking and not actually removing the piercing?
- fatrandy13, on 03/28/2008, -6/+1yea thats more professional - "your choice miss, show us your *****, or go behind this curtain were you have the privacy to take out the metal and follow the rules like everyone else"
- jcaino, on 03/28/2008, -3/+3you forgot /sarcasm - sorry, rules is rules.
- jezsik, on 03/28/2008, -1/+5Or, instead of using saline or silicon for breast augmentation, a woman might use plastic explosives.
/roll eyes - Vohu, on 03/28/2008, -2/+2Backscatter x-rays might solve the problem if the public (or more accurately the ACLU) would let the TSA deploy them. Since the answer is no however it is this or nothing currently.
- jaxcs, on 03/28/2008, -1/+5give me a break, she was willing to allow a visual inspection. It isn't this or nothing. by a long shot. Next you will tell me that the metal rod in a leg can be yanked out and used as a shank. So long as you can prove that the metal detected can't reasonably be used as a weapon, there should be no issues boarding an airplane.
- nblsavage, on 03/28/2008, -4/+5how about ***** looking and not actually removing the piercing?
- Vohu, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1That wouldn't surprise me if TSA management went that route. The organization's management refuses to even follow its own rules nor can they keep their "agents" from doing the same.
- Reaktor5, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1Yes.

- ShnowDoggie, on 03/28/2008, -3/+28I feel much safer now that the TSA is removing nipple rings. I suppose that makes them feel better about themselves despite the fact they can not find or stop weapons from passing through the gates. Just proves all the more that those in charge of TSA are idiots.
- xlar54, on 03/28/2008, -7/+2I think people said the same thing when they asked us to remove our shoes, and no liquids. Everytime you plug a hole, terrorists will find a new one. Oh thats right - theyve given up. Again, you guys are acting like this woman was beaten and tased. Ridiculous.
- SAc0balt, on 03/28/2008, -1/+5Exactly! I mean, imagine, that girl could have had a PMS induced psychotic fit and stormed the cockpit with her nipple jewelry in each hand. The flight wouldn't stand a chance!
- ShnowDoggie, on 03/29/2008, -0/+2xlar54, you are fool. The only way to guarantee complete 100% security would be to bound and gag every passenger. Is that really what you want? Try using some reason and common sense.
- FatherVic, on 03/28/2008, -0/+2This is exactly the kind of behavior i expect once security was taken from private firms and given to the Government. I travel by plan approximately 6 times a month. The class these people exude is indicative of an "entitlement employee" mentality that is so fervently on display at places like the DMV.

- kyleain, on 03/28/2008, -28/+5Sad that so many people are becoming more and more immoral. Hopefully they will repent.
- Chompy, on 03/28/2008, -4/+3Welcome to 2008! Can you tell us more about life during the VIctorian Era you have traveled here from?
- fatrandy13, on 03/28/2008, -2/+2what was immoral about this....
- Brownds, on 03/28/2008, -1/+2Oh just STFU.
- raytibbitts, on 03/28/2008, -1/+1You're right! I don't know why anyone would bury your comment...(maybe they work for the govt.) Too bad government officials never feel like they have to repent, especially when it is so obvious that they need it, as these TSA officials will probably always use the cop-out of, "I was just following orders." Unfortunately for most people, once they put a uniform on, their brains and their SOULS just go on auto-pilot, and they stop considering the morality of their actions.
I too have worn a uniform, and I know how hard it can be to mentally step to one side, and look at a situation the way a third-party might observe it, whether that be a simple dash-cam point-of-view or from God's point-of-view, or from the Digg community's point-of-view. We all have to repent in some way, but the TSA officers have gone way too far, and they don't even seem to realize it. I support you in calling for their repentance.
- OmegaWolf, on 03/28/2008, -5/+15Why oh why do people put up with ***** from the government who is paid by our tax dollars? Where are the boycotts, protests and revolutions?
- BobsYourUncle, on 03/28/2008, -1/+3You first. (that's the general position I'd assume)
- onetimer, on 03/28/2008, -2/+6...As much as this may harm your world view, the government is NOT some monolithic entity with complete control over every facet of itself.
What you WON'T here are the stories of 99.9% of TSA employees doing there job just fine.
Yes, incidents such as these are wrong and I agree the employees should be fired, but trying to advocate a boycott or "revolution" for something like this is just laughable.
Half the idiots screaming "REVOLUTION" have no idea what a real oppressive government is like, and have probably never even touched a gun in their life. This is why you see mostly adolescents calling for it.- KirbyMeister, on 03/28/2008, -0/+2The point isn't that people are mostly doing their jobs right. The point is that they aren't doing their job perfectly. As a normal responsible citizen, I demand my government be perfect in every way.
- onetimer, on 03/28/2008, -0/+2As long as the government is made up of people, it will never be perfect. No government can. That's why we hold elections so that the public can elect who they believe would do the best job and that will select other people who are best for other jobs. It's not perfect, but it's pretty damn good.
- Kstate74, on 04/01/2008, -0/+0I applaud you for being the first person to truly think about the situation and what security was doing. The only part that I don't agree with is the firing of people that were just following their procedures. I've read about this story and asked questions. The TSA employees did follow the procedures that they were given. I know that that woman feels that her Civil Rights has been violated, but we do have to look at the full picture. We are at war with a group of non-human caring individuals, that would and has used their babies, child, wife, husband, mother, father, and their selves to kill Americans. I know most people don't understand what it takes to make an explosive device, but disguising a nipple piercing to be a detonator is one of the scenario that the TSA has to deal with. Or making a liquid explosive look like a common drinkable liquid or baby formula is another. The terrorist don't have any boundaries, but we as Americans do, and it's ourselves. Say that the TSA do change the rules about piercings and give the traveler a choice of a visual inspection of the piercing. How long do you think it will be before another complaint comes out and say that the TSA is violating my privacy, because some traveler don't like the fact that she has a nipple piercing and a female from the TSA has to look at it, or a traveler has to show his or her piercing that's "below the belt line"? This is why we are so vulnerable to terrorist. They know that they can just sit back after they performed a 9-11 and wait for us to go back to the way we were, so they can do it all over again. People complained that the government did not do anything to prevent 9-11, but the same people complain that the government is doing something to prevent another 9-11. If there's anybody out there that has a better solution than what the TSA is trying to do right now, please let me know.
- KirbyMeister, on 03/28/2008, -0/+2The point isn't that people are mostly doing their jobs right. The point is that they aren't doing their job perfectly. As a normal responsible citizen, I demand my government be perfect in every way.
- xlar54, on 03/28/2008, -7/+3Protest what? The lady couldnt remove metal jewelry before going to the airport? Youre acting like she was beaten and tased. People are stupid. Lest we forget, we WERE attacked on Sept 11, and some things ARE going to change. Dont like it? Dont fking fly.
- TobiasParker, on 03/28/2008, -2/+2you cannot remove nipple rings for up to a year after they are pierced. Is the TSA going to pay for them to get re-done?
- fatrandy13, on 03/28/2008, -2/+2no, but if the rules state no metal, why should she be allowed to break the rules? everyone wants to blame someone or something else for everything... is personal responsibility really that uncool these days? i guess it goes hand-in-hand with democrats being so cool these days too.
- gregfadein, on 03/28/2008, -2/+4Yeah, I heard the whole 9/11 incident could've been avoided, but one of the suicide pilots craftily had his nipple pierced, which was solely responsible for the 2,994 deaths.
- AxeSwinger, on 03/28/2008, -3/+3xlar you are a coward. We certainly were not the first nation to be attacked by terrorist in the history of the modern world. It happens, it is horrible, and I like most people grieve for those who lost their lives. The proper response is to stop the individuals or nations who perpetrated the attack, those terrorists in AFGANISTAN. It's not proper to put the entire nation in lockdown and change the fabric of what it means to be American and how we are governed seven years later. Expecting we will all be kept safe if we submit to petty whims of bureaucrats is insane. While I suggest precautions be taken to provide safety we should take reasonable precautions, however the TSA won't even discuss most of their policies because then the terrorist will know how to end run them.
Meanwhile, we the governed by consent are left to deal with the rules and trust they make sense. That is not how our Gov't works we are a country that allows government to govern by our consent. If we cannot be told the rules how can we consent? If we go with your suggested method then this turns in to a totalitarian nation. But remember we’re hated because of our freedom so this might be a tactic that stops the terrorists.
Then to suggest that because she was not beaten or assaulted she should not complain is the most Un-American idea I've read in a long time. Is it now okay for government agents to do whatever they please as long as they don't beat your?? I want to know why you hate America so much?
Keeping the issue in perspective it was a nipple ring and she was willing to show it to a female agent. A simple pat down would be all that was required but the TSA agents either did not want to bother, training issue, or the policy they were following is wrong and needs to be changed. Either way this woman deserves to be treated better then she was.- reticent1, on 03/29/2008, -0/+2damn right. I can't believe what blind idiots some people turn into as soon as someone's excuse for terrible behaviour is "had to or teh tayrawrists win" - this appears to be a clear case of sexual harassment and humiliation (arguably sexual assault, being forced to do something to yourself that sexually titillates repulsive, juvenile douchebags, who snicker about it to add a cherry on top). No one can seriously argue that her piercings were truly considered dangerous by the douchebags since her belly-button ring was allowed a pass. And I'll bet most people with ear-piercings were allowed to pass aswell. It would be interesting to know whether they allowed her to take her nipple jewelry on the plane after it was removed, that would really be telling...
- xlar54, on 03/29/2008, -2/+1Typical digg fashion to name call when you disagree with someone. Try growing up, then perhaps your points might be listened to.
It is the TSA's job to protect people going up in aircraft. If they feel that we need to remove metal jewelry in order to be properly screened, then so be it. Who the hell are you to tell them how best to do their job? All I hear is whining babies, not people who recognize the reality of the situation we are in. September 11 HAPPENED... Put away your conspiracy theories, wake up to reality, and accept we live in a different day. Its not perfect, but its what we got. If the TSA did nothing, you'd be bitching when the next attack occurs.- ShnowDoggie, on 03/29/2008, -0/+1Actually, it really seems like you are so scared that you have lost your common sense. Possibly you are a coward. Could be that you were a victim of some crime and that has affected your judgement. Think about it. It was a very small ring. There is no way anyone could be harmed by it. Period.
- TobiasParker, on 03/28/2008, -2/+2you cannot remove nipple rings for up to a year after they are pierced. Is the TSA going to pay for them to get re-done?
- fatrandy13, on 03/28/2008, -1/+2i would most definitely not waste my time getting behind this cause... "rally together, we have to protest these guys for actually doing their job!" i guess its just so common for people to just slack off and not do what their paid for, that it seems silly when they actually follow the rules...
- evildeadguy, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1They are too busy at the pro-emo riots in Mexico.

- ShnowDoggie, on 03/29/2008, -0/+1Good point. I submitted the same story, but this one was submitted first. So I just followed the digg instructions and dugg this one instead. Seems like a flaw in the digg methodology.
- Andrewbot, on 03/28/2008, -2/+14That has to be one of the weirdest captions I've ever read.
That sucks for that lady though, that probably hurt like hell to remove.- futility, on 03/28/2008, -0/+6Oh good, so I'm not the only one who doesn't think that caption makes little sense.
- gametavern, on 03/28/2008, -2/+1Christ, they didn't RIP it out with pliers, they removed it with pliers. Sensationalist title.
- Kerrigore, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1What talking about makes perfect sense!
- gmiley, on 03/28/2008, -0/+2It's not that the piercing would have hurt to take it out with pliers, it's that some piercings require pliers to remove. They are usually the hoops where the ends come together tightly on a divotted ball. I have this type in my ears. Taking them off isn't so bad, just inconvenient, but trying to get them back on without the right kind of pliers is even more irritating.
- futility, on 03/28/2008, -0/+6Oh good, so I'm not the only one who doesn't think that caption makes little sense.

- Kerrigore, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1Don't you mean "Submission text headache gave"?
- Truzseeker, on 03/28/2008, -2/+1Next the taser bracelet. Both the TSA and DHS have destroyed a once thriving air transportation business, and with it tourism further eroding the economy :)
- FlyingPhotog, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1The airlines have destroyed themselves with poor management and awful customer service. They didn't need any help from the TSA.
- anonmill, on 03/28/2008, -0/+11I am glad the summary clears everything up for me.
- Misanthrope, on 03/28/2008, -1/+11The description is just random words, I think.
- fatrandy13, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1really dude? like 9 people said that already...
- Clade, on 03/28/2008, -1/+11Great now postings come with their own SEO friendly keywording! Buried
- breckinshire, on 03/28/2008, -0/+4Why does the description seem like an elaborate captcha?
- HappyScrappy, on 03/28/2008, -2/+16I'm sorry, how did an article with a summary that reads like search engine optimization phrases end up on the front page?
Buried as lame.- xTRUMANx, on 03/28/2008, -0/+2I think cause most people care more about the article than the description. Its the message that got the diggs, not the messenger.
- papipablo, on 03/28/2008, -2/+6We didn't make our airlines any safer, we just made the whole experience suck for the average traveler.
- UGM2099, on 03/28/2008, -2/+2If you have nipple rings your life probably already sucks.
- SebHughes, on 03/28/2008, -6/+8Pics or it didn't happen.
- razorsharpwit, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1That's the Gov't for you and all those gov't employees get job security - and it's not based on work performance.
- insomniacal, on 03/28/2008, -6/+1Am I the only one wondering why this story made worldwide headlines?
Was it wrong? Sure. Disciplinary action is in order. But is it major headline news? Apparently so given use of the word "nipple."- techeric, on 03/28/2008, -1/+2This incident represents a new low for our civil rights. I'm glad the article is all over the place. To think that it's solely because of the word "nipple" is just shallow thinking.
- leopardflames, on 03/28/2008, -1/+9i have them and i didn't get stopped. i got stopped for my dangerous tube of lip gloss instead.

- enmattp, on 03/28/2008, -0/+2hire a bunch of ***** on the job and this is the ***** they get up to
- gametavern, on 03/28/2008, -12/+2it's for national safety. Piercings aren't "medically required". What happened when a minority complained that he was being profiled? He got let on a plane that ended up inside a New York Building.
- Chassit, on 03/28/2008, -1/+3Which is completely irrelevant, and NOT for national security. If true, these agents are merely abusing their ill gotten power. Get a clue.
- ZeoFateX, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1Well then obviously it was effective.
- xlar54, on 03/28/2008, -9/+8I cant say I feel all that sorry for this woman. Security is an inconvenience, but we all deal. Take the crap off before you go to the airport. Security has every right to inspect when metal detectors go off. They dont like inconveniencing people either, but its their job. This woman has gotten WAY too much press on this issue.
- amida, on 03/28/2008, -1/+2FTA: "After nipple rings are inserted, the skin can often heal around the piercing, and the rings can be extremely difficult and painful to remove," Allred said in the letter.
- xlar54, on 03/29/2008, -1/+1Im not sure the TSA had anything to do with her choice to put a stupid-ass piece of metal in her tit. Sorry... I couldnt care less.
- techeric, on 03/28/2008, -1/+3Inspect, perhaps. Remove? Absolutely not.
- xlar54, on 03/29/2008, -2/+1Then people would be bitching that she had to be physically inspected. It doesnt end. Take the crap off before you fly.
- Ralan, on 03/28/2008, -0/+3You obviously didn't read the article or missed this:
"Hamlin, 37, said she was trying to board a flight from Lubbock to Dallas on Feb. 24 when she was scanned by a Transportation Security Administration agent after passing through a larger metal detector without problems.
The female TSA agent used a handheld detector that beeped when it passed in front of Hamlin's chest, the Dallas-area resident said.
Hamlin said she told the woman she was wearing nipple piercings. The agent then called over her male colleagues, one of whom said she would have to remove the jewelry, Hamlin said."
She passed though the larger one fine, the one TSA just decided that they need to be more thorough on this imminent threat. She even told them she had them and that they would be difficult to remove but they still decided to proceed. Sounds like a bunch of bastards to me. Most people have something called common sense.- xlar54, on 03/29/2008, -2/+1My point stands. Whats so hard about taking the damn thing off before going through security? Common sense.
- amida, on 03/28/2008, -1/+2FTA: "After nipple rings are inserted, the skin can often heal around the piercing, and the rings can be extremely difficult and painful to remove," Allred said in the letter.
- Hindu_Wardrobe, on 03/28/2008, -5/+5My friend told me that the last time he went through security, he had a (quite large) pocket knife in his pocket that went completely unnoticed... yet nipple rings are being removed?
- Sogui, on 03/28/2008, -0/+5Well my friend's friend said that his friend brought in a metal shark and rode it through the metal detector and went completely unnoticed.
- Deputy_Doodah, on 03/28/2008, -10/+5Yeah it's stupid and against her rights...hard to disagree with that. However, when stupid people get inconvenienced because of stupid things they did to themselves I can't get too indignant.
The slut is an idiot. The power-hungry bitch who made her remove those disgusting rings is an idiot. Therefore I don't care. Sorry.- TobiasParker, on 03/28/2008, -2/+5So she is a slut for having nipple rings, well you are an idiot for making gross generalizations about a women you have never met.
- tushyd, on 03/28/2008, -2/+3What the hell, Deputy Doodah. Just because your opinion is that she did something stupid doesn't mean that it IS stupid. You SHOULD care because it's against her rights. You may not agree with something someone believes or has done but you should defend their right to do it.
- techeric, on 03/28/2008, -2/+4I'm afraid it is you who is casting the idiot stone here... Since when has personal expression deserved civil rights violations?
- mikey2dope, on 03/28/2008, -1/+2First of all *shudders*
Second, they made it seem like they ripped it out of her in some articles, and that they made her rip it out herself in other articles. I think they should have just let her show the female agent. TSA employees can be assholes, they're just regular folk who think they are above others. - Joe_rigby, on 03/28/2008, -0/+3They forgot to include "Gobbeldygook description" in the description.
- thinman1189, on 03/28/2008, -0/+3I can't believe she would have gone through with it. I would never have nipple piercings but if I were ever ordered to something on that level I would immediately call the police, ***** the TSA, and the ACLU.
- pencilneck, on 03/28/2008, -0/+3So what do we have to do to get the TSA disbanded? They have shown to be a useless agent of security time and time again. I say they need to be cleared out and have a real security team put in, not a bunch of ***** morons who fear Audi flip out keys and nipple rings.
- techeric, on 03/28/2008, -0/+2It's all a ***** facade anyway. I certainly don't feel safer, only more inconvenienced.
- FenianNProud, on 03/28/2008, -0/+2With some 17+ piercings, I've never been stopped by the metal detector nor the wands pick them up. What was on the piercing that would have even made it go off to begin with?
- slippiefist, on 03/28/2008, -0/+2Probably aluminum. Surgical grade stainless, platinum, titanium, gold, any metal that should be in a piercing, normally won't set off metal detectors. I have six piercings in my face/head wearing surgical stainless and never have I set off a metal detector, unless a wand is passed right over them. But some cheap jewelry, like the kind you'd buy at Hot Topic, is made from aluminum.
- ru486, on 03/28/2008, -2/+0She's clearly a Witch - Burn Her!
- joetrizeo, on 03/28/2008, -2/+2How about just freakin' take it off before you fly next time. Jesus its not that hard.
Just like guys taking off their belts so that you dont have to deal with the scanner going off.
Have you never flown? Idiots. No metal = No problems.- BobsYourUncle, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1Apparently, it is that hard.
- Ralan, on 03/28/2008, -0/+0I don't have nipple rings, but how about you get some. After about a month take them out and then come back here and see if you feel the same way.
- Fenchurch72, on 03/28/2008, -2/+2I have a nipple piercing. While I understand that not all piercings are equal, don't most nipple piercings get tugged and yanked, bitten, pulled, etc. on a regular basis? Taking them wouldn't have been so bad if she had used them like they were meant to be used.
Of course, it does suck that she had to use pliars to get the hoop out. : ( - Scr4tchFury, on 03/28/2008, -2/+3"The last time that I checked a nipple was not a dangerous weapon."
My bank account begs to differ. - matbranyon, on 03/28/2008, -0/+4A few years back, I flew to, and all around, Europe. The only people that cared about my nipple piercings was a single TSA employee in New Orleans. Around that time I was always flagged for extra screening. I told him I had the piercings, he said he trusted me, and sure enough, the wand beeped over both of my nipples. I didn't have to show anything at all, no pat down. He took my word.
He was also distracted by the fresh baked cookies in my carry on (so much so, that he missed the knife).
No one else on the entire trip (5 separate countries in Europe, including international flights leaving and returning to the states) even cared about them.
So basically there seems to be no standard procedure, and a TSA employee can violate anyone's rights on a whim.- joetrizeo, on 03/28/2008, -3/+2"...and a TSA employee can violate anyone's rights on a whim."
No one forced this bitch to fly.
Choosing transportation by airline isn't a 'human right'. You CHOOSE to fly that way, you follow the rules.- matbranyon, on 03/28/2008, -0/+3That's kind of the point isn't it... They aren't following their own rules are they? Why can I get onto a plane with no issues AND A KNIFE?
And no, there isn't a choice as to "fly that way." You either fly, or don't. It is a government regulated private industry, there is no way around it.
Also, stop being an idiot.

- evildeadguy, on 03/28/2008, -0/+3Have I had a stroke or is the description for the story all fubar?
- cypherius, on 03/28/2008, -0/+2Description words random nonsense InfodivaMLIS poor keyword assortment aimless designless absurdity hit-or-miss irregular jibberish odd babble purposeless
- onefinalsunset, on 03/28/2008, -1/+1Buried.
I call shenanigans, I feel like these two are looking to get A LOT OF MONEY. Embellished details justtt a bit....
On a side note, why is a demonstration on nipple-ring removal from the bra of a mannequin needed? And what the hell is wrong with the description!? - FlyingPhotog, on 03/28/2008, -3/+1Slow news day? Tibet is fighting for independence and this crap is what makes the front page of news outlets? For crying out loud it's not even a hot, rich, 22 year-old blonde.
- BigCheezer, on 03/28/2008, -2/+1If you want to fly, its their way or the highway. Take a ***** bus.
- alkajazz, on 03/28/2008, -1/+3Keeping America safe, one piercing at a time.
- joshf52, on 03/28/2008, -1/+1The Austin Powers documentaries proved nipples can be extremely dangerous when installed on a fembot.
- Moviespo, on 03/28/2008, -3/+2No~one is allowed through the gate when the light is RED..They tell you to remove all things from your pocket and take off any jewelry. If I were working the gate and the metal detector went off I would not let her though especially in this day in age with fake boobs you can put more then just silicon in them...
- Whackly, on 03/28/2008, -0/+2Relevance?
- JonTheGoose, on 03/28/2008, -2/+3Ok, I've got a few piercings myself. Not nipple piercings but other non-ear piearcings. Aren't you supposed to regularly supposed to take out your piercings to clean them and the pierced area? If this woman had her piercings in so long without removing them that it healed around the piercing then she probably had some nasty crusty nipples. And seriously? a pair of pliers? This story reeks of some lady looking for a reason to create a scene...
- cmccalli, on 03/28/2008, -2/+1only in Lubbock, Texas.....
- slstsang, on 03/28/2008, -0/+3Fist the Mac book air, now nipple rings??? It's an embarrassment. Why do we hire thugs with 5th grade education to "represent"/ protect our borders? what a disgrace.
- Joe_rigby, on 03/28/2008, -0/+3I think the agents responsible for the crude manner in which Gloria Allred was treated should lose their jobs as a matter of principle, and if their conduct is in line with the TSA's policies, perhaps then the TSA policy makers should lose theirs.
- pepemt, on 03/28/2008, -1/+1wtf? only hot chicks should be allowed nipple rings...
- bossm4n, on 03/29/2008, -0/+1I would have dugg this if not for that abortion of a description and the fact that the submitter still submitted this story even though about 10 others preceded him.
Digg is coming to a city (and computer) near you! Check out all the details on our
