- dfweyer, on 04/13/2009, -0/+21There is a looonnngg waiting list for wind turbines now, they are popping up fast!
- piratearggghhh, on 04/14/2009, -0/+12I wouldn't downplay this at all - any job in Detroit right now is welcomed news. This is just the start of the green economy.
- hiPpymIck, on 04/14/2009, -1/+10pls dont make the same mistakes they have in UK
local protest to windfarms and the resulting pylons crossing the countryside
local govt taking years to grant planning permission
problems connecting to the grid
selling small turbines to individuals that end up incorrectly sited and practically useless - bad PR
big oil tricks - BP decided to withdraw £2 billion support for largest offshore windfarm in world (London Array - which as a result now might not even happen - hint eg T Boone Pickens
and more

oh and beware Greenwash - especially from the wind industry itself trying to look good and local\national govt chasing votes
\rant over - SyncMyRide, on 04/14/2009, -0/+8ANY job in Michigan is a good job. We need all the companies we can get!
- tbhurst, on 04/13/2009, -0/+8Yep, bottlenecks in supply chains all over the place.
- MelvinSchlubman, on 04/14/2009, -0/+6> is this a joke?
It's a start. You think they should refuse those jobs? - pak314, on 04/14/2009, -0/+5The title reminds me of Gauntlet... "Detroit needs food^H^H^H^Hjobs badly"
- Ddraig, on 04/14/2009, -0/+3They should re-tool the car plants to build these things.
- faskippy, on 04/14/2009, -0/+3Thanks for the info. I can't see why wind energy could be a bad thing. Just looks like govt. isn't onboard, eh? When theyshould be the ones most excited about it. Kinda makes one wonder...
- DirtPile, on 04/14/2009, -1/+3Jobs in Detroit? Is Eminem still cool?!
- NSResponder, on 04/14/2009, -3/+5Good news. Just don't let the UAW get in there and ***** it up.
-jcr - hiPpymIck, on 04/14/2009, -1/+3i like this idea - recycling old ones to farmers community groups etc
http://greeninc.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/01/26/old-t ... - zuiquan, on 05/21/2009, -0/+1Wow, I don't even know where to start. OK brainiac, where do the turbines in, say, Wyoming come from? Do the gods just ***** them out on site? No? Oh right, somebody somewhere has to build them. Michigan has some of the most skilled and productive workers in the entire world, let alone the US.
Oh *****, a highly skilled labor force looking for work, they wouldn't need hardly any training and would be ready to get to it on day one. Or we could go to oh, say, Wyoming where 300 people live and employ nearly the whole state.
You're just an ignoramus. - scumblz, on 04/14/2009, -1/+2This story blows me away!
- traveler1217, on 04/14/2009, -0/+1Sounds like we could all use a blow job.
- Iipalbanjary, on 04/15/2009, -0/+1green jobs seems interesting in recession
http://iipalbanjary.net/forestry-creates-more-jobs ... - lostinseganet, on 04/14/2009, -1/+2Mabe they should try vertical wind farms. You can get lots more directions.
- roho76, on 04/15/2009, -0/+1I just sent them my resume today.
- zeth006, on 04/14/2009, -2/+3I remember there was another article on Digg about the huge $787 stimulus bill. I posted that the investments in renewable energies from stimulus bill would mean the creation of new jobs in wind/solar energy. Had some idiot call me out for my "naivete." Guess those same red-faced Republicans are now biting their lip.
There's a high likelihood that Global Wind Systems got a cut from the stimulus bill or tax cuts for starting up a factory in Michigan to make those wind mills. Also don't forget: 250 jobs is probably just a preliminary number. As the demand for wind mills rises, so should the jobs. - lostinseganet, on 04/14/2009, -1/+1Detroit is about to die O-o
- zomgflamer, on 04/14/2009, -2/+1NO!!!!!!!
Unemployment = more competition in prostitution,$5 BJ specials god damn it!!!!! - insanebrain, on 04/14/2009, -3/+1Yes.
- e3boy, on 04/14/2009, -3/+1The UAW didn't ***** up Detroit, it was the MANAGEMENT of the big 3 that ***** up Detroit.
The guy on the assembly line has no say what the cars are designed like, or the quality of parts that go into the product.
You might as well blame the robot building the cars for ***** up Detroit.
The cost average between a big 3 car and a Japanese car is only about $1,500.
I would gladly pay $1,500 more for a Toyota over a Chevy. - inactive, on 04/14/2009, -3/+0Pardon my laughter (bwahahahahahaha). So Michigan is going to "green" its way out of being the worst economy in the nation? You believe that moronic "green collar" job pitch? Good luck with that. Here's reality. Your unemployment rate is 11% and rising. When GM craters it will be over 20%. Your tax rates are among the highest in the nation. Your union friendly state government is job repellent. How does it feel now that Kentucky builds better cars than you? Have fun playing with your windmills. If wind is a measure of wealth than Wyoming is far richer than Michigan.

What is Digg?
