- Conwaysb0718, on 07/07/2008, -8/+10Last time I was in Ireland, they were more than happy to suck down a cool, crisp Budweiser.
- redscofield, on 07/08/2008, -0/+9That's because we Irish will drink just about anything...
- BoonTobias, on 07/08/2008, -1/+1NSFW article
- mofw, on 07/08/2008, -2/+1Yeah, I saw lots of people drinking Coors light when I was in Ireland too.
- redscofield, on 07/08/2008, -0/+9That's because we Irish will drink just about anything...
- P5ycHo, on 07/07/2008, -2/+11Eh, no.
- gskill, on 07/07/2008, -18/+3Beer is beer right?
- Surferess, on 07/07/2008, -3/+8If they want the Budweiser I am ok with that.
- kavutu, on 07/07/2008, -9/+3Those Heinies will drink anything if it says beer and gives them a buzz!!
- Kanele, on 07/07/2008, -5/+21I know myself i won't like it, american beers lack some ballz (feel free to digg me down piss drinkers!)
- sodade, on 07/08/2008, -1/+2coors, bud and miller are not the sum total of american beers. I'd say that breweries like Ommegang, North Coast and even New Belgium have put American brewers in the league of Trappist monks.
- WantToPlay, on 07/08/2008, -2/+0Yeah, I hear you.... I hate any type of beer. I can only have a drink that I can't taste the alcohol in it. I know, I'm a wuss.... lol
- Jambi, on 07/07/2008, -1/+23They might like some of our local microbrews, which are pretty good. As for the mass-produced crap that's often called beer here in the states...it's like having sex in a rowboat; ***** close to water. I wouldn't drink it if they paid me.
- Kanele, on 07/07/2008, -0/+4yes you are correct, microbrews are much more interesting
- MarkusX, on 07/08/2008, -0/+7Being German myself, I can tell you, that I am gladly paying 5 times the price, just for drinking real German beer here in the States. I am just drinking only a 5th of the amount that I would drink back home. :-(
Samual Adams Boston Lager is maybe the only one from all the mass production beers in the States that can dare to compete with some of the German beers.
@Kanele: "microbrews are much more interesting"
I concurr. Here in the States, I've had quite a few good microbrews, and some real ***** ones, too. :-)- sodade, on 07/08/2008, -0/+1I'd say that New Belgium is now "mass produced" and they kick ass over Sam Addams (which does make some decent brews).
- BoonTobias, on 07/08/2008, -0/+1can't mess with the country that invented octoberfest, but Guinness owns you
- Waldbaums, on 07/07/2008, -1/+28No, they will call it piss water.
- aircool00, on 07/07/2008, -2/+6hell no,
- Ninjao, on 07/07/2008, -0/+5Well i'm from Germany and I have never had an American beer. However im sure one of our ~5000 different Beer "makes" tastes like your Beer.
How many different types of Beer does the US have?- rareblue, on 07/07/2008, -0/+8Almost as many, but you have been at a lot longer!
- snea, on 07/08/2008, -0/+4We may not have 5000 different brands. I honestly have no idea how many, but I am certain we have much more variety between the beers we do have.
- ezyeric, on 07/09/2008, -0/+2I think we have more types because we want to try all while many counties over there want the same old thing they had hundreds of years ago. People talk American beer down only because of mainstream beers like Bud while our microbrews are growing a ton and I think soon will take over international competitions much like California wine once did. Especially Hoppy beers
- corporatebee, on 07/07/2008, -1/+4If it's Budweiser, speaking as a kiwi, no would be the answer
- phreak79, on 07/08/2008, -0/+8Personally I'd much rather have a good quality European beer to a Bud. They tend to have a bit more oomph.
- tvanwyk, on 07/08/2008, -2/+11Would an American drink a Bud? Oh, wait... that's right. Americans are nuts and like to drink horse urine.
- cyberdork, on 07/08/2008, -1/+4Well, tt's not 'bier' since it was not brewed according to the Bavarian Reinheitsgebot of 1516 ;-)
- BlackSheep720, on 07/08/2008, -4/+3Dugg for the hot girl at the top of the page.
- Stockwell, on 07/08/2008, -0/+12As a Belgian I refuse to have a Budweiser (or a Coors or Miller). It looks like beer, smells like beer but hey it's not really beer!! It's damn' close to water.
However, there are some decent brews in the US - thanks to the micro breweries.
But all in all I still prefer a good old brew of any kind of Belgian beer, the occasional German Weiss-bier and the Czech Budvar (THE REAL Budweiser).- nikkilai, on 07/08/2008, -0/+3I was about to make a comment that I went to a Berlin grocery store and saw that they had their own version of Budweiser (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thum ... but I didn't realize it's actually Czech. Thanks!
It's way better than our Budweiser, btw. - sodade, on 07/08/2008, -0/+3I'm american and I also refuse to drink pisswater.
- nikkilai, on 07/08/2008, -0/+3I was about to make a comment that I went to a Berlin grocery store and saw that they had their own version of Budweiser (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thum ... but I didn't realize it's actually Czech. Thanks!
- brexians, on 07/08/2008, -0/+3we prefer our real beers than yours, with exeption some microbreweries like break or others
coors, Miller and bud sucs
have you ever taste a cool budweiser czech original!! superb.... - nikkilai, on 07/08/2008, -0/+3I brought an Australian to a typical college party once, and he found it amusing that "light beer" here means it's low-calorie, not that it's light-colored. He thought he was in for some good pale ales or something, but he got good ol' fashioned piss water instead,
- thespanielator, on 07/08/2008, -1/+6We find your American beer like making love in a canoe. It's ***** close to water.
- JonnyMark, on 07/08/2008, -1/+18Here in Canada, American beer is for children.
- fas2, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1oh snap
- roastedbagel, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1Right, because Labatt and Molson are some dam good beers!
/sarcasm- JonnyMark, on 07/11/2008, -0/+1Friend, you should drink Alexander Keith's Indian Pale Ale.
- Carl306, on 07/08/2008, -0/+4I'm a poor college student. I go for the budget beer: Natty. Of course, this is only after I have a few shots to get me good and buzzed so that I can't taste the awfulness that is Natty.
If by some means I have a decent amount of money on me to spend on beer, I'll splurge a little and go for a New Castle, or some of the micro brews. - BaseballGuyCAA, on 07/08/2008, -0/+3# No, they will call it piss water (97%, 67 Votes)
# Yes (3%, 2 Votes)
I think the results speak for themselves. - TheSexyGeek, on 07/08/2008, -0/+4I'm from the Caribbean. We have Carib beer (brewed by many different islands) and some local beers from various islands. Jamaica has Red Stripe beer. Barbados has Banks beer. etc. ALL of these are much stronger and richer than American beer. American beer tastes like crap by comparison. Or as one commenter said "Piss Water" Sometimes we wonder how Americans get drunk on it.
Sorry. . .don't expect American beer to do very well outside of America. - porkbarbeque, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2With all the great beer in Germany, they gotta be stupid to drink Bud.
- btschul, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2I am an American, and I can't stand american beer. After being in europe and drinking fresh guinness at st.james gate in dublin, and drinking fresh heineken in amsterdam ( I think it was in amsterdam, I was kinda pissed at the time), and sampling local beers in various towns in germany, american beer is like pisswater in comparison.
- striderhiryu81, on 07/10/2008, -0/+1You're American and you use "pissed" in the context that you did? In what part of the US does
'pissed' mean 'drunk'? I always thought that was a UK thing.
Not to take away from your post at all. Its true. American beers are so lightly flavored and lack any and all hoppy characteristics that make beer good. I'd go as far as to call Coors Light "sweet" compared to the preferential bitter taste that hops should lend to a beer.
I happen to live in Northern California (sacramento) so we have plenty of spots around here with great microbrews and even some of the better Belgian beers. A nice pub here serves Chimay, Allagash and Maredsous(various) on tap and the entire Bay Area is littered with great pubs/bars. www.beerbybart.com.Not to mention the Pacific Northwest is arguably the best place in the US for microbrews.
I envy your trip to Dublin and Amsterdam. How was the coffee ;-) ?- btschul, on 07/12/2008, -0/+1"You're American and you use "pissed" in the context that you did? In what part of the US does

I have a british friend who says it all the time, and I just sort of picked it up.
"I envy your trip to Dublin and Amsterdam. How was the coffee ;-) ?"
Egh....I hate coffee.
- btschul, on 07/12/2008, -0/+1"You're American and you use "pissed" in the context that you did? In what part of the US does
- striderhiryu81, on 07/10/2008, -0/+1You're American and you use "pissed" in the context that you did? In what part of the US does
- Shigglyboo, on 07/08/2008, -0/+1I've never understood how America can be such a 'bad-ass' rough n' tough nation and yet our beer is the exact opposite. You'd think we'd have some sort of wild west cowboy man beer as the most popular.
- Conwaysb0718, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2Thats cuz bad-ass rough n tough guys only drink beer as a chaser for bourbon.
- carbbomb, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1Everyone that is saying that American beers lack balls obviously have not had a chance to try some good craft brews we have here. Go drink some Arrogant Bastard or Pranqster and come back to me.
- Defiance, on 07/09/2008, -0/+3Its good to see that everyone on digg is an expert on beer tasting and has formulated their own opinion on American beer.
Oh wait, its just the same generic comment over and over again.
"American beer is piss. Its like water. I only like some American microbrews..."
Almost everyone on here sounds like an elitist snob. - loconet, on 07/09/2008, -1/+1Silly Americans and their weird spelling. It's colour not color. it's FOOTBALL not soccer! .. what you call beer , yes, it's is actually CAT PISS.
- vacax, on 07/09/2008, -0/+3America has the best craft breweries in the world. Stone, AleSmith, Green Flash, Lagunitas, Port, Lost Abbey, Deschuttes, Pyramid, Rogue, Ninkasi, New Belgium, Dogfish Head, Avery, Great Divide, Founders, Ommegang, Victory, Russian River, Bear Republic, Oskar Blues, Anchor, Three Floyds, Bells, Surly, Alaskan, and I'm sure countless others I am forgetting.
- GoKings, on 07/09/2008, -1/+2I drink American beer if I want to get really drunk without waking up in the morning looking like I'm pregnant. I prefer Heff, but that ***** makes me full after like 3 beers.
*Initiate Diggers calling me a pussy and claiming that they've downed 30 beers in one night.- Rocketbird, on 07/09/2008, -0/+2You're a pussy, I once downed 4 beers in one night.
- FreemanJack, on 07/09/2008, -0/+2Tell the truth, I'm an absolute beer snob, but I don't need to drink it all the time. I am just as happy to kick back with a Coors lite, or a Bud as I am to crack open a Boddington's or Newcastle, Guinness or Stella... mmm...
