oh.. And you have to love that image! - badwithcomputer, on 07/22/2008, -0/+6awesome thumbnail.
- madrigaelic, on 07/22/2008, -0/+6What is branding, really? I'm not sure anyone really understands. It's sort of like playing the stock market. You get the smartest people to do your branding/stock-picking, but you could just ask your little brother and do all right, too.
- pirlok, on 07/22/2008, -0/+5does anybody know who invented the term "logo"?
P.S. digg logo is not cool - inactive, on 07/22/2008, -0/+5"please stand up, please stand up"
- diemunkiesdie, on 07/22/2008, -0/+4Hmm, I always thought Energizer had the pink bunny because that's all I've seen here in the U.S. But apparently (according to Wikipedia) Duracell had the Pink Bunny first and when they didn't renew their trademark, Energizer pounced. In my opinion, that means Energizer is the real pink bunny now (at least in the U.S.) and so when I buy Energizer, I'm buying the REAL pink bunny (though I never buy Energizer, I just buy the cheap store-brand stuff).
Here are the Wikipedia articles:

- inactive, on 07/23/2008, -0/+3N.B. The "Energizer Bunny" was based on a character in Walt Kelly's comic strip "Pogo". Check out any of the strips circa 1953, you'll see the bunny with the hat and the drum. Kelly had about 150 characters in his strip, the bunny never had a name that stuck.

- feureau, on 07/23/2008, -0/+3BUNNEHZ!!! ^^
- hotpuck6, on 07/23/2008, -0/+3Part of the problem with the brands he is talking about is that they don't differentiate their businesses enough.
Of course no one can figure out which companies batteries to buy, because they're all the same.
If you have a good enough product and are differentiated enough, then you're marketing doesn't need to carry your product, but if you're a "me too" brand, you're going to wind up throwing away tons of money into your marketing budget just to remind everyone the market leader hasn't destroyed you yet.
Good article overall. - jcl777, on 07/23/2008, -0/+3WTF WTF! Maybe the people just don't buy batteries based on a logo? They might not be able to name the brand with the pink bunny, but that doesn't mean their decision was based on that.
- brainnovate, on 07/25/2008, -0/+2the right product could do really well on that thing!
- bixby1, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2That's a bold statement. I like it.
- maxyRO, on 07/22/2008, -1/+3I was hoping for some NSFW.
- Ozone451, on 07/22/2008, -0/+2Why dont they just make the battery pink? Would tie in nicely.
- louiebaur, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2I agree
