- B5tKUnT1, on 10/23/2008, -1/+98It started with: We need to own your privacy to protect you.
Now it's: We need to protect you from the facts about your money, to save you financially.
People, don't you realize there is something wrong with both statements? - spyd3rweb, on 10/23/2008, -1/+82COMPENSATION

- Pyehole, on 10/23/2008, -1/+64Time to call my Senators and Congress Woman. It's bad enough that they passed the bailout bill, but if we're going to be stuck with it we can't just forget about it and move onto the next news item.
- ptheroux, on 10/23/2008, -6/+60I don't even care anymore. I'm about ready to liquidate my 401k, but some guns and canned food and move to the mountains until the crooks die of old age or just go away.
- inactive, on 10/23/2008, -1/+52A government that robs its people is NOT a government - its a leech.
- podalirius, on 10/23/2008, -1/+37Mark Cuban hired some reporters to investigate this and other stuff about the bailout. bailoutsleuth.com (I heard about it on NPR, planet money)
- inactive, on 10/23/2008, -0/+35why does a thief wear a mask?
why do roaches scatter when you turn on the lights? - trer, on 10/23/2008, -2/+33Quickly, turn their attention to American Idol and Football!
- gab00n, on 10/23/2008, -1/+31They own the mountains and will charge you rent.
- Ghostalker, on 10/23/2008, -0/+29So much for democracy being transparent.
- rajid, on 10/23/2008, -1/+29FAIL
If you're using taxpayer money, then taxpayers MUST know how it's being used. Period. End of issue.
Yes, it should be ILLEGAL to keep hidden from the public how public funds are being spent. Definitely. - raisinbrainMMM, on 10/23/2008, -1/+29I accidentally ████████████ the stock market.
- PhilMoskowitz, on 10/23/2008, -2/+29Enjoy the last days of Rome.
- DigitAl56K, on 10/23/2008, -0/+25Probably because of this:
http://www.marketwatch.com/news/story/fannie-fredd ...
Short version: Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have reportedly been ordered each spend $20bn per month *outside* of the $700bn bailout plan to buy up toxic assets. At that rate it works out to $480bn over 12 months. Worse still, who knows what the terms are for these transactions? For all we know the assets could be bought at book value and because Fannie and Freddie are nationalized the tax payer would eat all the losses.
There was a HUGE rebellion over the $700bn bailout plan, but these allegations seem to be catching little attention.
Quote:
"Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson said the two companies would be allowed to "modestly increase'' their mortgage portfolios to as much as $1.7 trillion through the end of next year and said they would no longer be run "to maximize shareholder returns.""
Stop and think who the shareholders are ;) - seltaeb4, on 10/23/2008, -0/+23So, we're good enough to pay for the crimes, but not good enough to know the names of the criminals?
- seagoat2008, on 10/23/2008, -2/+22Where is the transparency? I hear that word alot but it just doesn't happen. I do care. Make some noise.
- aaronirwin31, on 10/23/2008, -1/+20I've just about had it with the secrecy. I'll tell you what we really ought to do this election. If you live in a state that is solidly red or blue, and you are in the minority, you should vote third party. I mean, honestly, If you are a Republican and you live in California; since the popular vote means nothing and everything is decided by the electoral collage; you know that California is going to fall for Obama no matter what you do. Because of that, being a Republican, you should probably vote for Bob Barr and the Libertarians.
Likewise, if you are a Democrat and you live in Texas, no matter what you do, you know Texas is going to fall for McCain. According to CNN's latest polling McCain is favored 57% over Obama's 38%. Nothing you do is going to change the fact that all of the electoral votes from Texas are going to go to McCain. If you voted for Ralph Nader.
Obviously, if you live in a close or hotly contested battleground state like Pennsylvania, Ohio, Florida, or even North Carolina; this would be too risky from either perspective. Also, since Maine and Nebraska can technically end up with a situation where their electoral votes are split, this would probably not be a good idea there either; but of the rest of us living as political minorities, I can't see any risk in sending both controlling political parties a clear message.
I can't see why not to do it. Unless I'm mistaken, the executive branch has an approval rating in the low twenties and congress is even lower than that. We are obviously disgusted with these people. That truly would be a vote for change. In all reality, not taking advantage of the situation to send such a clear message would be throwing away your vote. If you are voting for McCain in California or Obama in Texas, your vote is a complete waste. Seriously, why not do it? Wouldn't it cause a stir with the top brass in both political parties if 30% of the voters in California voted for Bob Barr?
Is there something I'm missing here, or would that be a safe way to vote and send congress a message without hurting the chances of your candidate of choice (within the two ruling parties) getting elected? - DJMattB241, on 10/23/2008, -5/+24HAHAHAHAHA you're going to call your senator and congresswoman and tell them WHAT?
It should be plainly obvious at this point that the federal gov't couldn't give a ***** what you think. - PhilLesh69, on 10/23/2008, -0/+17I'm too busy trying to keep my home and feed and clothe my kids, I can't be bothered with all that "politics" or "facts".
I want to lose my privacy and freedoms. I was told there are evildoers out there that want to destroy us for our freedoms.
I want to lose my money and I support our government going deeper into debt and printing more money even if it devalues the money I have and my salary, because if they don't bail out the wealthy bankers who own yachts and go on $400,000 spa retreats, it will hurt main street. I don't want to be hurt by all of this, so I hope they take on as much debt and print as much money as is necessary to preserve the wealth of the people who caused this crisis.
Somehow, when I am long gone, I'll realize some kind of benefit from making sure the ultra-wealthy didn't go broke. I just know, because they told me so. - MrsButtersworth, on 10/23/2008, -0/+14That's OUR ***** money they spent on these ***** crooks, and they don't think we even deserve to know HOW the ***** it was spent?!?!
- inactive, on 10/23/2008, -1/+15Sad but true. Your congresscritters are working for the enemy. They ARE the enemy.
- caseypc, on 10/23/2008, -1/+14I'm a taxpayer... and I have been robbed.
- kesam, on 10/23/2008, -1/+13It IS illegal, the whole bailout is illegal. But the Fox is guarding the henhouse. The ONLY thing that will save America now is a public revolt, but I think it will take years of starvation before that happens.
- positron, on 10/23/2008, -0/+9Show me a government that doesn't rob its people.
- MarkOfTheDead, on 10/23/2008, -3/+11Ooh! that was EDGY!
- kiley481, on 10/23/2008, -0/+8Jeez ... Next they'll think they can release a redacted version of the Constitution. Would make a funny SNL sketch if it weren't such a serious issue.
- captainanndor, on 10/23/2008, -0/+8I'm on board with that idea except for this:
Part of your plan is to hunt bears.
Part of your plan is to dress like bears.
Do you not see the potential problems here? :P - Spoomeister, on 10/23/2008, -0/+8At this rate, next time there's a run on a bank, the people will have torches and pitchforks.
- minorthreat, on 10/23/2008, -0/+7I'm about to do the same thing, my family owns the mountains, however we have to pay taxes on them, so I guess that means... yes they do charge us rent.
- Waiting2awake, on 10/23/2008, -1/+8No there is other things... Go find a man and ask them... If there is a man in that country now.
Seriously - if someone stole a dollar from you, you'd be angry and want it back. If it was your entire paycheck - you'd probably fight for it...
If someone stole your child's toy - you'd be angry and want it back. If they stole your child - you'd probably be willing to do anything to get them back and make those that took them pay...
Yet here we are - you are out much more than your paycheck could ever be, and they have put your children, and grandchildren, into indentured servitude forever..... and America is doing? ? ?
Why there isn't mass protest in DC with people leaving with politicians head's on pikes is amazing to me... - bushout, on 10/23/2008, -2/+9Think the censor might have missed the point with this part.

YAY for America, you have just been F'd in the A!!!! (again) - soupnrc, on 10/23/2008, -1/+8Jim: Dwight tried to kiss me and I didn't tell anyone because I'm not really sure how I feel about it.
Dwight: That's not true. Redact it. Redact it!
Jim: Well, I'm not actually making a formal complaint. I just really think we should talk about it. - mwalker05, on 10/23/2008, -1/+8can i come live with you? i can train dogs to help us hunt and warn us of bears. also we can skin the bears and wear their hides to look like bear men. then we will raid small towns at night in our bear suits, stealing the gasoline, meat, and beer. truly it will be a paradise.
- MarkOfTheDead, on 10/23/2008, -0/+7Our original forefathers.
They also rolled halfies of cannabis and tobacco and had a set of balls too. - louiethelesser, on 10/23/2008, -0/+7Because McCain is of the same ideology they are. McCain and Obama are both owned and operated by the Global Plutocracy.
- louiethelesser, on 10/23/2008, -0/+7The truth is; that the global elitist are paying for the consent to produce a global government. They don't care about the effect it has on the masses, as long as globalism goes fore ward. Globalism is much more dangerous than all the other isms combined.
- droplet, on 10/23/2008, -0/+6the WHOLE market??
- waspbr, on 10/23/2008, -0/+6if anything history has taught us, it is that lack of transparency in governments goes hand in hand with corruption

Wake the ***** up! - Waiting2awake, on 10/23/2008, -0/+5That is pretty much the size of it - as it has been for a long time now. You, your children and grandchildren - are nothing but cattle to them, and whether it is apparent to you or not yet, you have sold out your kids.
Or, America can finally grow a set and stand up to these crooks, and their enablers inside government.
How would your forefathers feel? What would THEY do about it? - GovernmentsGun, on 10/23/2008, -0/+5It's not the crooks, it's the system. The government system is setup to be a prime location for crooks. We've had crooks for two centuries now. It won't be any different in your lifetime or your children's.

Read about what choices America can choose from... - Swivelstick, on 10/23/2008, -1/+6That's an excuse for people so they can ignore their complacency in the issues and when someone does bring up an issue it is more often then not deemed irrelevant till too late.
Bumper stickers UNITE!! - ren1999, on 10/23/2008, -0/+5You mean, your dead beat uncle, who almost put your family in the poor house, because of his bad business sense, asked you for money but won't tell you how he will spend it. Then your dad takes your money, without your permission, and gives it to your uncle anyway. That is the state of the U.S.
