Who wants a recession? Quite a few people, actually...

- loudribs, on 02/08/2008, -0/+2Being a car-less, childless renter, I'm totally up for a recession...it's all coming up ribs! On a more serious note, I think that we seriously need a recession. The economic practices of the last decade have been completely unsustainable and simply floated on a raft of credit that has to sink at some point. For all the interest rates cuts and attempts to prop up what in effect is a sinking ship, I think we need a cold hard slap about the fiscal chops to really drive home the point that we can't carry on like this and that try as you might, any attempt to cheat economic gravity is temporary at best and downright delusional. We've had the party....time for the hangover.
- morningmatters, on 02/08/2008, -0/+1Recession is certainly good for the professions listed in the article. I would think that that liquor shops, casinos/lottery agencies would fair well too here as well. With the recent numbers most economists think that US is already in recession. Sadly, I have recently bought a home and now I am afraid to even look at my brokerage and retirement accounts. On the long run people my age (in their 30s) don't have worry about any of this, but people in their retirement age who have yet to converted all of their investments into bonds or cash are in deep trouble.
