- quesi, on 06/01/2008, -66/+245figures. fight their wars, send them money, strengthen israel at the cost of America... israel out of US
- smellytim, on 06/01/2008, -5/+168you guys have heard of the British pound right?
- Smooooth, on 06/01/2008, -29/+135No, it hasn't become stronger THAN the US dollar or Euro.
It is getting stronger comparatively, but not stronger absolutely.
1 U.S. dollar = 3.19970307 Israeli shekels
1 Euro = 4.97393842 Israeli shekels - inactive, on 06/01/2008, -42/+124That's OUR money!
- kelmaster1, on 06/01/2008, -32/+101Zionism is an amazing movement.
Public school textbooks and a consistent amount of Holocaust education which American schools have taught excessively (More US students know more about the Holocaust than any other period in history, even ones that affect us more like the creation of the Fed or the reasons for the Civil War or the Workers and Industrial Revolutions) All of this pounding it in students brain that anything against Israel, disputing the holocaust, or questioning Zionist policies is antisemitic.
Zionism has quite an interesting history and not all of it is evil. Zionism is an extreme sect of Judaism for the creation of Israel and many Jewish people are strongly against it. It involves the Rothchild Family, the creation of fiat currency (fake money, like our currency), the acquisition and consolidation of gold into wealthy hands, loans to governments, war bonds, and of course war. That is the main reason German disliked the Jewish people was not solely because of ethnicity but because they thought that it was the Jews (ie the ones who ran the banks in Germany and Europe at the time, the Rothchilds etc.) who caused the economic depression years before the holocaust, about the same time the US was in a depression. Zionist were willing to kill Jewish people for their cause, even though they are technically Jewish themselves. It's amazing to see what power the Israel lobby has in the US congress, more power than any other country by far.
The Zionist movement has a very large media backing in newspapers, textbooks, magazines, TV or just about every form of media. They are very good a discrediting those who oppose them, and they have a substantial amount of money backing their cause. DO NOT confuse Judaism with Zionism as they are very different. - brycelb, on 06/01/2008, -9/+62So you are telling me that an article that is being dugg up is not accurate? Here I thought that Digg was the goto place for solid reporting and accurate article submissions.
- crazyjake, on 06/01/2008, -4/+53it sucks living in germany while getting paid in the us dollar
- zephyear, on 06/02/2008, -2/+48or the kuwaiti dinar, which is twice as strong as the pound
and 4x as strong as the dollar - sputty01, on 06/02/2008, -7/+45*sigh* just because one Dollar is worth more than one Shekel doesn't mean its not stronger. If that were the case then id get moving to Japan! 105 Yen for your Dollar! Go go go!
- BlueSkyfish, on 06/02/2008, -2/+31Yeah, they call it a kilogram or something. Its about two American pounds. Damn inflation...
- neocognitism, on 06/01/2008, -15/+43No it's not. You're the antisemite for falsely conflating Israel with Judaism. Only a fraction of the world's Jews are Zionists, and not all Zionists are Jews by a long shot.
That Likudnik lying talking point has bit the dust a long time ago. You should stop trying to use it, you antisemite. - darklights, on 06/02/2008, -2/+29American spending $1 in US: 1 can of coke
Brition spending £1 in the US: 2 cans of coke - ***** yeah! :) - wubblie, on 06/02/2008, -7/+34Doesn't have anything to do with US aide. Israel has the highest number of start up companies per capita in the world. Also, I believe the highest number of engineers per capita. They are the fastest growing defense exporter, because they make add-ons that improve American and Soviet weapons. We even buy from them for our military. They will be less affected by high oil prices in the future, because for obvious reasons, they have been trying to limit oil imports for some time and have been investing in alt energy tech. They will find it much easier to gain energy independence with solar and nuclear than most countries. In short, they have excellent human capital, and their energy strategy will give them an advantage in the future.
- Laminarcissus, on 06/02/2008, -0/+25Not for your employer.
- Smooooth, on 06/01/2008, -2/+28Well played, my friend.
- eltrev, on 06/02/2008, -10/+34Totally inaccurate title, which points to an israeli site bragging about israeli currency, and the "Meet Jewish Singles!" banner ad is a nice touch. eesh.
- TheCasablancan, on 06/02/2008, -3/+26It doesn't seem like the above poster is disputing it, but highlighting the amount of focus given to that particular time period. Wouldn't it make more sense that more focus would be on the civil war or some other domestic conflict? Would it be because WW2 was the one of the most recent atrocities? That doesn't make sense because there have been many more cases of genocide since then.
If you think that it's solely about the body count, then why do you think russian numbers are not more well known? Why do so few people know about the Hutus and the Tutsis? I guess it sort of makes sense. Millions of people were cooked/gassed in concentration camps. Only a few hundred thousand were slaughtered with machetes and left in the dirt.
I just don't understand why the death of a Jewish person is more important than the death of an African's. - monsieurginger, on 06/02/2008, -4/+24What a misleading headline. While I respect Haaretz for always criticizing the government like all press should do(because if they didn't, they aren't doing their job), but they always make headlines that are misleading and provocative. Can't they just call a spade a spade.
- Pillage, on 06/02/2008, -6/+26Can of coke $1 US
Can of coke £1 UK - inactive, on 06/02/2008, -2/+21actually, i wish rupees were the dominant currency. then i could pretend i was living in 'link to the past'
- aristotle0dude, on 06/02/2008, -0/+19The minimum wage in the UK is 5.73 GBP which works out to about 11.35 USD per hour while the US federal minimum wage is 5.85 USD which works out to 2 pounds and 95 pence per hour.
You have to stop comparing prices with a currency calculator. Relatively speaking, they are the same price to the locals when you buy locally. - kakwakas, on 06/02/2008, -0/+16No, they use 'stones' and some other crazy stuff over in the UK. No one really understands it.
- fuzzmeister, on 06/02/2008, -11/+26"anything against Israel, disputing the holocaust, or questioning Zionist policies"
Debate Zionism all you want, there are certainly many arguments to be had. However, don't connect Holocaust denial to that in any way - to dispute the existence of one of the biggest tragedies in modern history is simply absurd, and quite blatantly antisemetic (unlike debating Israel). - ileftfark, on 06/02/2008, -3/+172 is a bigger number than 1! You can't possibly be right! /sarc
- pintomp3, on 06/02/2008, -8/+21not wanting to give billions of our tax dollars to israel is antisemitism? i demand you give me $5000, otherwise i will declare you antipintomp3tic.
- Hindu_Wardrobe, on 06/02/2008, -3/+15America, ***** YEAH!
- Laminarcissus, on 06/02/2008, -5/+16This is all well and good, you people can keep naming currencies until you're blue in the face, but while they are stronger I'll remind you that none of them make the point that the Jews are taking over the world. So you're just not being helpful.
- MavRevMatt, on 06/02/2008, -4/+15No it's not. You're just a dumbass.
- inactive, on 06/02/2008, -2/+12you do realize its an israeli newspaper?
- hattrick35, on 06/02/2008, -1/+10But China has 1.25 Billion People! Israel has 6 million!
- Berkana, on 06/02/2008, -0/+9In that case, why compare with the dollar when you can compare with the cent? The cent is totally weak by that measure.
...in other words, comparing units is meaningless; buying power vs. wages is what's important. Different countries divide their currency into different units of different values. Units are not fundamentally comparable. - Laminarcissus, on 06/02/2008, -1/+9And your take on Egypt? Surely you have a harangue prepared on a country that takes nearly as much from us and is not even a reliable ally in the region?
Surely? - MadceltUK, on 06/02/2008, -0/+8Only cost me £0.50 at lunch today, where do you shop? Harrods?
- LowFuel, on 06/02/2008, -4/+12C'mon, haggle...
10 for this you must be mad!
See, haggling! - inactive, on 06/02/2008, -0/+8I was going to suggest the Bahraini dinar but you're right.
- Laminarcissus, on 06/02/2008, -2/+10Well then quick, while George Bush is still in office let's go get it!
And just let me also point out that Canada has a ***** of oil. I'm just sayin'. - monsieurginger, on 06/02/2008, -4/+12to casablancan,
The reason the Holocaust is taught in American schools(I think, I didn't go to a public high school and they didn't talk about it in middle school) is because Hitler was democratically elected with his racist ideology well known(Mein Kampf was a best seller) and they systematically tried to erase the Jewish people from the face of the earth. And the US and the rest of the world did nothing about it. - p2dc, on 06/02/2008, -0/+8Who the hell spends £1 on a can of coke? When you came to Britain did you stay inside the airport?
- redcosmic, on 06/02/2008, -2/+8Every single country? You mean every tinpot dictatorship full of illiterate nobodies. They did quite well this year in the Eurovision, you know, getting political votes from European countries that actually give something to the world. What you actually meant by everyone hates Israel is 'I hate Israel'. Admit it. Well guess what? You don't speak for all six billion of us.
- neocognitism, on 06/01/2008, -15/+22Then there is no more need for the cash and arms donations, the technology transfer, the security guarantees, the foreign policy allowances, etc, right? Good, I'm sick of them.
- inactive, on 06/02/2008, -1/+8American spending $1 in UK: 1/3 of a can of coke.
- brycelb, on 06/01/2008, -1/+8I love this one sided mentality. It reminds me of voting for a presidential candidate based on ONE issue. Why is it so hard for people to understand that the value of the dollar may close off some sectors of the market while opening up others that were previously unavailable due to it's strength. Is it a bad thing that US auto makers are making a transition to producing cars that are sold over seas here in the US. This is just one aspect. When one door closes another opens. When the cost/benefit of buying foreign oil hits it's breaking point (which seems to be very shortly) other options will be made available. You can bank on it.
- rexblade, on 06/01/2008, -8/+15Lately ive been paying more attention to how and when that particular comment is used. I think its rather sick and ignorant to buy into this blind faith attitude. Right now its exactly the same if you are critical of any government policies or actions. Like some how these elite ultra rich politicians are incapable of corruption. Its insulting to the Jewish religion to use it as a defense of obvious corruption.
- JohnReb, on 06/02/2008, -2/+9Ahh, nice to see the classic anti-Semite is still alive. Next time you should remember to specify that it is only Zionist Jews you think are masters of money who have horns on their heads. That way you won't expose all those who agree with you.
- ileftfark, on 06/02/2008, -2/+9That "meaningless" detail is how the that thing works... what's it called... oh yeah - "Economics".
- Lockhart, on 06/02/2008, -0/+6Briton spending £1 in China: 4 cans of Coke (approx.)
- monsieurginger, on 06/02/2008, -2/+8You know, more people say that Zionists call others anti-semites for criticizing Israel more than they actually do.
- max4077, on 06/02/2008, -1/+7Not true. I just bought a can of coke for 50p yesterday at Sainsbury's.
- sassip, on 06/02/2008, -1/+7diggumbert; I am no Ron Paul supporter, but I wish you would have backed up what you said with specifics. It would have been easier to believe what you said... the discussion was getting interesting...
