- w3torg, on 12/04/2007, -0/+16I was about to joke that they should make a site: willitshred.com Seems they already own the domain.
- rwert, on 12/04/2007, -7/+18Yes, but will it bl -- oh wait, shoot, beat me to it. Dammit!
- bightchee, on 12/04/2007, -6/+15If the site is loading content from a dozen other sites and I will have to unblock them in NoScript one by one to see the video the real question is "Will it load?"
(spoiler: No) - sladek, on 12/04/2007, -1/+6Lots of SSI shredding videos http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=SSI+Sh ...
- Gimpishi, on 12/04/2007, -0/+4Steven Wright:
For my birthday I got a humidifier and a dehumidifier. I put them in the same room and let them fight it out. - Dokument, on 12/04/2007, -1/+4I was hoping for a ninja turtle : (
- wrestlingnrj, on 12/04/2007, -0/+3I work for a Metal Scrap Chain and this is nothing compared to some of the shredders we have at our facilities. The biggest thing I have seen get shredded so far was a medium sized school bus, but I have heard we can shred an entire cargo container. The Company that I work for is SA Recycling (just recently had a merger between Sims Hugo Neu and Adams Steel).
- cw1242, on 12/04/2007, -1/+4Thats a workers comp case waiting to happen.
- banmaster, on 12/04/2007, -0/+3No car though. Just the fridge, couch and a tractor tire.
- skyshock1, on 12/04/2007, -0/+3Doesn't work on my Mac G4 laptop either.
CNBC = FAIL. - patpl22391, on 12/04/2007, -0/+3God, that is an accident waiting to happen, that big wide open hole? (that's what he said!)
- imaxami, on 12/04/2007, -1/+4Mesmerizing. I could watch shredding *all* day long. Pull up a chair, a cooler, and my protective eye-wear and I'm set. Wow. It's cathartic!
- Iamironman, on 12/05/2007, -0/+2It just feels wrong without Tom Dickson
- javajockey, on 12/04/2007, -2/+4worked just fine for me with the mplayer-plugin on RHEL3
- glasnostic, on 12/04/2007, -1/+3anybody else thing of Fargo?
- jserio, on 12/04/2007, -0/+2Anyone else wonder if the engine was in the car when it was being shredded?
- slashbot, on 12/04/2007, -1/+3Definitely don't want to fall in that one.... yikes
- coredump0x01, on 12/05/2007, -0/+2Tons more videos on their Youtube channel http://youtube.com/user/bigshredder

There you go. - FKnight, on 12/04/2007, -0/+2To reduce the amount of space our trash takes up is one purpose. It's a lot better than having a junk yard full of 20 year old broken cars taking up space, leaking pollution into the ground, and being a general hazard. Additionally, there are cases where things need to be shredded for security purposes, such as decommissioned computers, servers, and storage media.
Essentially, the same reason you have a paper shredder in your office, except that there are things in the world that need to be disposed of the same way that are a lot bigger and/or stronger.
I can't wait to hear the reason this comment will be buried for. - withmoreenergy, on 12/04/2007, -1/+2Imagine if someone accidentally slipped from the top and fell in there. Worst Way to Die. Ever. I'd rather watch 2 girls 1 cup 20000 times than to hear someone's cries of pain in that *****.
- ophello, on 12/04/2007, -0/+1nope -- they took it out.
- coredump0x01, on 12/05/2007, -0/+1Thermite may have some competition: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQYPCPB1g3o
- skyfire1, on 12/05/2007, -0/+1Imagine if you threw a human in there.
- 4UIDigg, on 12/05/2007, -0/+1hard to file workers comp after getting shreaded
- blinktude, on 12/05/2007, -0/+1dont shred me bro!
- asauterChicago, on 12/04/2007, -0/+1Just go to the guys site: willitshred.com, he has tons of videos, actually pretty entertaining...
- inactive, on 12/05/2007, -0/+1Let's find out. Jump in.
- Iamironman, on 12/05/2007, -0/+1it just not the same without tom dickson
- active1x0, on 12/04/2007, -1/+2That video was great! Man that is one powerful shredder.
- jserio, on 12/04/2007, -0/+1Exactly... same for the VW Bug they shredded too I bet. Unless they can shred a whole car - including engine, I am not totally impressed. Cars are made of lightweight materials these days that can shred quite easily I'm sure.
- bwpayne, on 12/04/2007, -0/+1Lol I've always wondered why we are so fascinated in destruction of objects that take 10 times the amount work to create.
- rouslan, on 12/04/2007, -0/+1I know it's not for entertainment, but I can't believe someone could start such a large business just by buying a few shredders-a high school graduate without any further education could do it.
- inactive, on 12/04/2007, -0/+1Yeah I dont think you could escape that one...
- ArmandoM, on 12/04/2007, -0/+1All fun and games until someone loses an eye....
- ArmandoM, on 12/04/2007, -0/+1I'm pretty sure he made large amounts of money building and selling large shredders, not buying them. Probably to people who need to efficiently break big things into little things.
- crimson138, on 12/04/2007, -0/+1I was going to ask the same question. What do they shred all that stuff for? This guy didn't just make a ton of money by making shredders to entertain people on the internet with shredding videos. I assume at least some of the metals and things are broken down for easier recycling.
- Mipmap, on 12/04/2007, -0/+1Full list here: http://www.ssiworld.com/watch/watch-en.htm
- inactive, on 12/05/2007, -0/+1My Commodore 64 also failed to play this video. Oh wait, nevermind, there it goes!
- spudnic, on 12/04/2007, -0/+1It will shred. No exceptions.
- bernales, on 12/04/2007, -0/+1That would be a short video
- ftcram, on 12/05/2007, -0/+1The reason to shred scrap is to make it easier/more cost effective to separate the waste stream. The couch shown in the YouTube Video is a good example, normally the steel frame would go into the landfill. By shredding the steel can be separated on a magnetic conveyor and recycled. Other materials can be separated by various methods to be recycled and/or disposed of correctly.
- rouslan, on 12/04/2007, -0/+1What's the point of shredding stuff like that??
Sometimes I just hate capitalism-in this case some guy making large amounts of money by buying large shredders. - redstarburst, on 12/04/2007, -1/+1it feels so wrong... :(
