sounds like a smart philosophy to me - thethinktank, on 11/12/2009, -1/+28Insurmountable wealth aside, dude seems like he'd be a blast to have a burger with.
- skeptictank, on 11/12/2009, -0/+24Gee, he seemed to make a lot of money without bundling, reselling and leveraging risky mortgages or using high frequency trading... imagine that!
- Apokalyps2547, on 11/12/2009, -2/+18"Investment the company"? If the key doesn't make sense, I have little interest in the rest of the graphic.
- titoelgato, on 11/12/2009, -0/+14I would say I would love to be one his kids. But they are getting nothing from the man.
- compson13, on 11/12/2009, -0/+14he really has led a fascinating life
- jjason1985, on 11/12/2009, -0/+10It's a bet on oil rising in price and the US economy tanking.
High oil price = expensive shipping by truck, therefore railroad shipping becomes more attractive.
China owns a *****-load of our debt, so we are going to need to start exporting to even out the trade deficit. Also, the waves of inflation about to hit us (see gold price) mean a weak dollar and favorable export.
Increased export to China = more need for shipping goods to California ports.
Buffet is friggin good at what he does.
Also, he wants to get rid of dollars and get tangible assets before they are significantly devalued.
And he does this while saying he is "Betting on America"... very shrewd. - Haha71687, on 11/12/2009, -1/+10wut
- EddiePotato, on 11/12/2009, -1/+10Nor did he financially ruin thousands of people in a ponzi scheme! What a strange man.

- pwarnock, on 11/12/2009, -3/+8His frugality is commendable.
- mwtapp, on 11/12/2009, -0/+5FTA: Meanwhile, reports are beginning to surface that the massive deal may lead Buffett to sell some of his prior investments, which include a number of insurance and financial firms - such as M&T Bank and American Express - as well as food and beverage giant the Coca-Cola Co. and newspaper publishing firms including the Washington Post.
I am sure that Warren Buffet has a grand strategy worked out. - pthatcher, on 11/12/2009, -3/+7B(.)(.)BS is all I see on there

- trdrstv, on 11/12/2009, -1/+5"Buffett manages to make more money than other investors by essentially being less ambitious. While Wall Street's "Up-and-Coming" set their sights on high returns, using leverage, Buffett's steady annual compounding of increases, avoiding debt, has always worked better."
What? You mean the 'Get Rick slowly plan' works better than the 'get rich scheme' ? Say it aint so! - EddiePotato, on 11/12/2009, -0/+4Somebody set us up the typo.

- DiggMeUpPlz, on 11/13/2009, -0/+2"He bought his first house for 31K in 1957 at the age of 27, which is almost the equivalent of a million dollars nowadays"
this inflation calculator says 31K in 1957 is worth $238,257.62 today.
http://www.coinnews.net/tools/cpi-inflation-calcul ... - monodelasno, on 11/12/2009, -0/+2My mom often relates the story of her sorority sister who was always trying to fix her up with her little brother Warren. Evidently she was too busy making time with Robert Reed, who "was definitely not gay when I knew him".
Thanks mom, and TMI. - bundwallah, on 11/12/2009, -0/+2"Acme Brick"? The same makers of Acme anvils? If so, Wil E Coyote has a hell of a lawsuit to slap on ole' Warren. :)
- yocouchdigga, on 11/12/2009, -0/+2That's not true, at all.
- gleongelpi, on 11/12/2009, -0/+1i lik to mak yu aamgyr.
- Gigglecream, on 11/13/2009, -0/+1I think he simply chose not to invest in the tech boom because he just didn't understand it. In general, I think he has stayed away from investing in companies with heavy amounts of R&D.
- gleongelpi, on 11/13/2009, -0/+1Hey, bud, Buffett lost a lot of money for his stockholders these last couple of years. Didn't you see the stock price of his investments tumble?
- linagee, on 11/13/2009, -1/+2Unless you blow it all on things like flat screen TVs and SUVs.
- yocouchdigga, on 11/13/2009, -0/+1GRANDPA!?
- linagee, on 11/13/2009, -0/+1Canifitit: He wants you to be rich enough to buy his stock.

- liquisoft, on 11/13/2009, -0/+1Interesting information, but somebody needs to spell-check this *****. It reads like a 10 year-old wrote it.
- gleongelpi, on 11/13/2009, -0/+1That inflation calculator is an out-and-out lie. I am an old man. My father paid to have a house built in the late '50 for just over 10K. It is worth nearly a half million now. The parents of one of my best friends bought a little house in the late 50's for 3K. When the old couple died, the kids sold the place for over 100K. A friend of mine bought a house for 57K in '69. They sold it for over 450K in '98. A college buddy of mine bought a house with his wife in 1973 for 23k. It is worth nearly a half million now.\
When I was in college one could buy a gallon of gas for under 20 cents. When I was a kid, a Coke was a nickle at a vending machine, and you got two cents back when you returned the bottle. I remember when the mininmum wage was sixty cents. I remember when a hamburger, the real thing, was a dime. I remember when one could buy a pair of shoes for a couple of dollars, a t-shirt for under a dollar, a pack of cigarretes for 20 cents, etc, etc, etc. That inflation calculator is just a pack of lies. - jjason1985, on 11/13/2009, -0/+1Really? How do you figure? He claims to "bet on America" with this latest purchase. If he is stuck in unsuccessful American ventures, then it is not because he planned it that way. He only bets on things that enrich himself, like all wise investors. He is actually betting AGAINST America. He is betting on China and India to drop US treasury notes and start consuming in proportion to their economic output.
I just don't buy the nonsense of American Pride or whatever. It's a nice slogan, but the Patriot Act sounds like it is patriotic, when in fact, it is toxic to our liberties and what makes us Americans -just words that have very little relation to the truth. -
