- radiofrequency, on 03/18/2009, -3/+135We COULDN"T POSSIBLY let SUCH TALENT go to OUR COMPETITORS!
- Chahrlie5, on 03/18/2009, -22/+113It's okay, Fannie/Freddie execs are in tight with the Democrats.
- chriskzoo, on 03/18/2009, -10/+75I gotta see what Barney Frank is going to say about this one. Somehow he will try to justify it.
- Patriot556, on 03/18/2009, -4/+66For a $610,000 bonus, I'd go there and work hard 80 hours a week, and, I'd even pay my taxes.
- inactive, on 03/18/2009, -10/+70Do not question such things. Are you a domestic terrorist?
- OneFreespirit, on 03/19/2009, -7/+52Rep or Dem in power = you get ass rapped.
- atm259, on 03/19/2009, -3/+41No more bonuses, end this *****.
- ajfunk, on 03/19/2009, -5/+41I thought you're only supposed to hand out bonuses when the employee does well.
- inactive, on 03/19/2009, -6/+30You could almost say that Fannie/Freddie cheerleader, Barney Frank, is "butt buddies" with them.
- FaithclubDotNet, on 03/19/2009, -3/+25I still like how Congress is upset with this happening. Are they trying to tell us that they didn't expect it was going to happen?
- Khast, on 03/19/2009, -6/+28Someone please tell me why we are bailing out these companies again? Wasn't it because of them starting to go bankrupt....you see, back in my days, failure meant NO bonus.....
Glad to see you guys really didn't need to be bailed out after all, with all the success you guys are apparently showing us you really had.
Oh, we want our money back, since you obviously didn't need it. -the taxpayer. - novaculus, on 03/18/2009, -15/+36Just a little gift to Bawney's butt-boys.
- inactive, on 03/19/2009, -4/+22Maybe you haven't heard how executive compensation works, but generally execs will get bonuses even when the company does poorly (albeit smaller bonuses than they would have if the company had dominated).
- woodrail, on 03/19/2009, -5/+19Do you see what's on the end of that guy's fork? It's YOU!
- deema1, on 03/19/2009, -7/+21All right! Let's pay them for bringing the housing market to its knees! Congratulations on a job well done!
- y0y0howsdajell0, on 03/19/2009, -1/+15You over achiever, you...
- inactive, on 03/19/2009, -5/+18Stop the bailout insanity NOW.
- inactive, on 03/19/2009, -3/+15Remember when there were people saying that we needed to take our time and figure out the best course of action?
Remember how a lot of people said that the government should not be bailing out these companies and that they should have let them declare bankruptcy?
Yeah, this is why.
Now we're on the hook for these bonuses and there's nothing that can be legally and constitutionally done to change it.
It would have been better to allow them to fail and the most the government should have done was to let the courts handle the restructuring like they do now. - inactive, on 03/19/2009, -5/+17Why aren't Americans rioting in the streets re: the government providing all these bailouts and assisting corporate criminals?
- UncleRage, on 03/19/2009, -1/+12Enough with this *****.
Can we please start sending some ***** to prison already? - conebone69, on 03/19/2009, -2/+13welcome to america.
- manstein01, on 03/19/2009, -5/+16I am so sorry Digg cannot be populated by huffpo visitors only.
And since when do you need to be conservative to see that what Fannie/Freddie have gotten away with? - jfreeman, on 03/19/2009, -1/+12I opposed those as well. Just because it's not the first doesn't mean it can't be the last. Stop justifying the screwups under this administration with the screwups under the last.
- jfreeman, on 03/19/2009, -15/+25Please stop the bailouts, Mr. President.
- reeds1999, on 03/19/2009, -0/+10Maybe that should be changed.
- irishjays, on 03/19/2009, -6/+16Look people, we bailed someone out, not took over the company. We gave the money to these companies to continue running as is. If we wanted them to change, we would have let them go bankrupt. Oh I'm sorry did your representative not inform you of where he was sending your money and for what reason? My tea is in the harbor.
- TheInformer, on 03/19/2009, -0/+10Freddie and Fannie are government run, so them getting perks and earmarks are ok. It's the poor PRIVATE citizens that are to be hounded and hunted.
- inactive, on 03/19/2009, -7/+17Thank the Obama administration. Dodd Says loophole that protects AIG Bonuses added per request of the administration (Obama/Geithner). Watch the video here halfway down the page here:
http://www.butasforme.com/2009/03/17/obamas-stimul ... - Momopie, on 03/19/2009, -1/+11I'm no economist... nor am I knowledgeable about business in any way... but please... STOP. This needs to stop. Even on the simplest degree, this doesn't make any sense. Rewarding crap is like we're in Opposite Land or forever stuck on Opposite Day.
The only thing I'm grateful for is that little by little all of this crap is being uncovered and brought to attention... but it really does seem like it's only the beginning. - yeahwhatever58, on 03/19/2009, -0/+10John-
Nice analogy. If it was performance based, you would be right on but the problem here is that these bonuses are retention bonuses that don't pertain to the individual employee's performance record. In theory, a retention bonus is really kind of a lame reason to offer a bonus to a company such as this during this economic climate. These bonuses were all factored in contractually AFTER the financial meltdown had already begun and was hitting full swing. - dagwood, on 03/19/2009, -1/+11I guess the best we can hope for is a courtesy reach-around.
- active1x0, on 03/19/2009, -2/+12"THESE BONUFES AW NONE AWF YOUR CONTHERN!"
- odigity, on 03/19/2009, -0/+8This isn't about business ethics, but the insanity of government.
Still... good flick. - jsc07302, on 03/19/2009, -0/+8Staff Get 'Death Threats' Over Bonuses
http://news.hereisthecity.com/news/business_news/8 ...
"One banker told Here Is The City: 'President Obama appears to have got what he wanted - Main Street and Wall Street are now officially at war. And that will do no-one any good'. Another said: 'The administration and lawmakers are now caught in a trap of their own making - they have whipped up a populist storm about banker bonuses, and now have no option but to join in the political grandstanding."
Two More Firms Said To Be Looking At Pay Increases
http://news.hereisthecity.com/news/business_news/8 ...
"One banker told Here Is The City: 'The restrictions on pay have been imposed by Democrat lawmakers and politicians. There's good reason that people like this don't go into business - they would fail. Everyone knows that firms like Citi and Morgan Stanley rely on the revenues that top-producers bring in to survive." - inactive, on 03/19/2009, -7/+15Thank Barney Frank!
- Kangaroo12001, on 03/19/2009, -6/+14Barney Frank The Banking Queen.
Obama the Incompetent who pledged to "read every line" in the bills he signed and assured us of his intent to oversee things.
Fire Geitner. Impeach Obama. Give Barney Frank to the biggest bull fag in the prison system. - thecoolestguy, on 03/19/2009, -1/+9We digg and support what's right, not what's from Fox or Huffington. If a viewpoint that Fox happens to support is correct we will support it.
- novaculus, on 03/18/2009, -4/+12
So KingMoron is ignorant of Bawney's "personal connection" to the Fannie.
And he has nothing better to do than troll around in my wake. If I came to a hard stop I would need surgery to remove his pointy head from my ass. - Patriot556, on 03/18/2009, -3/+11I doubt he'll want to discuss his sex life in public!
- Hardataq, on 03/19/2009, -15/+22Obama sucks.
- KyleRayner, on 03/19/2009, -1/+8Like the contract between UAW and the big 3? The one Congress forced them into "renegotiating?"
- vroom101, on 03/19/2009, -5/+12How many billions of U.S. bonus-dollars are We the Poor-and-Getting-Poorer People of the United States of America expected to pay?!?!
- Mightbiteyou, on 03/19/2009, -0/+7or that the banking industry purchased the legislative and executive branches
- conebone69, on 03/19/2009, -2/+9shut the ***** up. you don't give out BONUSES with money the government bails you out with...
- Troy64, on 03/19/2009, -0/+7So their argument is that they are incompetent instead of liars.
That makes me feel better.
I can't wait to see what we find out is on the stimulus bill no one has read. - TheSwashbuckler, on 03/19/2009, -1/+8There is NO financial data behind these bonuses. They're retention bonuses. Basically, it's extra money to not quit the job.
- mharjo, on 03/19/2009, -1/+8I love when someone is spouting how stupid people are and then proceeds to make 3 spelling errors in under 40 words.
- w00t4t00w, on 03/19/2009, -1/+8not "your money", china's now and later your grandchildren...
and remember "teabag the white house" - compulsive1, on 03/19/2009, -1/+8As long as there is food and Internet is full of free porn the will of men to take to the streets is greatly diminished.
Look at the repressed and poor countries. They fight or riot over anything on regular basis. I think there is a connection. - blorc, on 03/19/2009, -5/+12If you don't want them to get bonuses paid by the taxpayers then don't give them ***** taxpayer money in the first ***** place.
Too big to fail my ass. -
