We need to get over the openness issue, with both trade and immigration. I'm a second generation American and my family worked extremely hard to make their lives better, and they were able to do so with the opportunities provided to them here in the United States, opportunities that they didn't have in their home country. This applies to the vast majority of immigrants coming to the US, they just want opportunity.
And trade ties directly in with that. Open trade makes the lives of everyone better, in our country and out; trade betters the lives of billions of people around the world. A chance at free and open trade should be something that we Americans jump at. - chessmasterjoe, on 05/12/2008, -2/+1If they are all for free trade how come I can't buy drugs from Canada? Why can't I buy a Cuban cigar? You don't need a thousand pages of rules for truly free trade. NAFTA ruined the agricultural structure in Mexico in favor of big agriculture in the USA leading to mass illegal immigration to the USA. Their so called free trade is only good for the multinational corporations not for the sovereign citizens of this country or Mexico.
