- inactive, on 08/11/2008, -0/+50with less ads, how will i know what to buy?
- ironeus, on 08/11/2008, -2/+32Pages upon pages of ads never made sense to me anyhow so I'm for the decrease of the original banner ad.
- darthsand, on 08/11/2008, -3/+31Ads in magazines can get extremely annoying!
- xryface, on 08/11/2008, -3/+27Not much I can do about this, I'm not a woman.
- lesleye, on 08/11/2008, -1/+18It's a trend across the board with the printed press. They're basically royally buggered as more and more people consume their media online.
- Rollic, on 08/11/2008, -0/+17Wow. So will this mean that the "Letters to the Editor" section of Vanity Fair will be published somewhere before page 300 from now on? Just seems un-American.
- inactive, on 08/11/2008, -2/+18strangely i like the ads and the perfume samples too.
- inactive, on 08/11/2008, -0/+16What the hell is a soggy biscuit?
- Cancerkitty, on 08/11/2008, -0/+15That's why I don't read magazines unless I'm at the doctor's office. It seems like they're all ads.
- Linake, on 08/12/2008, -0/+11His older what?
- JerichoSam, on 08/11/2008, -0/+11Does anyone actually look at all those ads, anyway?
- punchingjudy, on 08/12/2008, -2/+13Now if only Wired Magazine would take a hint and decrease the number of their ads. They actually used to be a magazine worth reading. IF I HAVE TO LOOK AT ADS, THE MAGAZINE SHOULD BE FREE.
- zooey1234, on 08/11/2008, -1/+12Yes, I like the ads, too. The most pretty women are in them.
- inactive, on 08/11/2008, -1/+12Dugg for less ads. I understand that ads are needed in this consumer society, but people have to find the right ammount of them, don't put 45645 tons of them...
- inactive, on 08/11/2008, -0/+10I am torn here, the ads in these mags are usually pretty good and part of the reason you check out the chick mags to begin with, you want to see what's hot. But those poor postal workers, who knew 4.9 pounds....really?
- drex8, on 08/12/2008, -0/+9Use Adblock Plus?
- jcorn1, on 08/11/2008, -0/+8I honestly think magazines are going to be moving online, even Vogue. Just the sheer amount of paper per issue is staggering.
- freshyill, on 08/12/2008, -0/+7What the hell are you talking about? That doesn't make any sense. It's about how fewer ads are being placed, not about caving to pressure from readers who don't want to see them.
- theotheragentm, on 08/12/2008, -1/+8Wait a second. Aren't you the same one that claimed you never had sex with a guy and were proud of it?
http://digg.com/comedy/SohHow_many_guys_have_you_s ...
Something isn't adding up. - drex8, on 08/12/2008, -1/+7Wow you're a stalker!
- stutimandal, on 08/12/2008, -0/+6{{Vogue has 674 pages of ads this year}}
If this is less, what is more? Where are the "green" revolution guys? - Bobzero, on 08/11/2008, -0/+5I didn't know people actually...Really subscribe to these mag's., they are mostly loaded with advertisements, I'll agree with cancerkitty, let the money making doctors do the subscribing! and read then there, most are online now anyway.
- wedges, on 08/12/2008, -1/+6674 ***** PAGES? how is the "massive outlay of ads no longer in vogue" if they have 674 pages of ***** ads?
- AussieCynic, on 08/12/2008, -0/+4what the heck... no way.... ;)
- revjustin2, on 08/12/2008, -0/+4Your understanding of capitalism is...um...limited at best. Here's a link to the Wikipedia entry for some preliminary reading on the subject: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capitalism
- sodade, on 08/12/2008, -0/+4Many magazines are just glorified ads from cover to cover.
- inactive, on 08/12/2008, -1/+5Are they flash ads? If so.......
Get flash block. - inactive, on 08/11/2008, -0/+4Tell me about it!
- IHaveIssues, on 08/12/2008, -0/+4"The most pretty photoshopped women are in them."
There, fixed it for ya. - GiggleStick, on 08/12/2008, -0/+4There's also the at least 8 subscription cards in each one.
- velvethead, on 08/12/2008, -0/+4There's something other than ads in Vogue?
- borez, on 08/12/2008, -0/+4A biscuit wot has been dunked in tea
- alpinecow, on 08/12/2008, -0/+4still, gotta be careful. if you get one of 674 page these things hurled at you...ouch
- MattB123, on 08/12/2008, -1/+4If only they made AdBolckPlus for magazines. Well, if those magazines had any content I wanted to read.
- thegrantman, on 08/12/2008, -0/+3This situation is critical.......soon women may be forced to read the articles.
- inactive, on 08/12/2008, -4/+7Consumerism sucks anyway.
- mardraum, on 08/12/2008, -0/+2not to critique since it's probably a good thing if you don't know anything about fashion mags, but ads are half the point with those. most readers like them.
- mediaspree, on 08/12/2008, -2/+4I just read the articles. No, wait...I can't read.
- deff, on 08/12/2008, -1/+3I'll tell you when your older.
- rowlodge, on 08/12/2008, -0/+2i can look in a phone book if i want an ad.
- Testiculese, on 08/12/2008, -0/+2I'm wondering how many pages are in the rag in the first place?! 675?
- WiretapStudios, on 08/12/2008, -0/+2No. Even though newspapers are going in the *****, and mags may be down (I don't think they all are), nothing beats holding a book or a magazine in your hands. It's tangible. I doubt I would use a free Kindle, and I read tons of books.
For example: Reading PDF's of design magazines I buy is much lamer than having the actual magazine. - Mjeacoma, on 08/12/2008, -0/+2Ad sales are down - Companies aren't advertising as much in the print.....NY Times is worth only $50 million more than Newsday with less than half the circulation - Print is dying!
- pradaaddict, on 08/12/2008, -0/+2Vogue is the oldest and most well respected womens fashion and lifestyle magazine.
- cadmiumpaint, on 08/12/2008, -1/+3so i guess nobody understands the larger issue here....ads are the #1 revenue source for magazines. When ads drop, magazines start to fail. Its why Life Magazine went away.
The $ spent on magazine ads cannot be replaced by internet ads so there stands to be a huge economic impact that will effect everyone if this whole system starts to collapse. - inactive, on 08/11/2008, -3/+4Why the ***** doesn't ADBLOCK work on Digg anymore?
- HighlyRelevant, on 08/25/2008, -0/+1can't they ever wake up and learn to invest in online social media? lordy http://www.jeannenetedesco.net
- thegrantman, on 08/12/2008, -0/+1So is yours Yayster....with the shocker avatar and all.
- drex8, on 08/12/2008, -0/+1The only time I get to read magazines, when I am at a supermarket waiting to check out.
And now a days, with those self-serve lanes, that habit may soon prove to be a thing of the past. - PurgueFlantar, on 08/12/2008, -2/+3I know everyone is in love with Adblock, but I've always used a HOSTS file to block ads, and it works wonderfully:
