- caccia, on 04/18/2008, -3/+14I'd like to boycott China...period!
- RichPowers, on 04/19/2008, -0/+9Boycotting the Olympics is easy but meaningless. Boycotting Chinese products -- that's tough but would actually accomplish something.
Too bad none of the protesters in S.F. had this sign: "American consumerism bankrolls Chinese oppression." - inactive, on 04/18/2008, -3/+11REDDIT it, too: http://reddit.com/user/mejaredme/
Let's get a campaign started! - Apophis574, on 04/18/2008, -0/+7I love how when people make sense they get dugg down....
Excellent post Iconoclaststill. - swordedge, on 04/19/2008, -3/+8In ancient Greece, the Olympics were the one time everybody set aside their political differences. Since, among other things, the modern games honor the ancient ones, we too should put aside our political differences. Do NOT screw another generation of Olympians go to the games. We cheated the 1980 athletes and Moscow cheated a their athletes in 1984 (Afghanistan, they invaded it, and the 84 boycott was in retaliation)
Do NOT politicize the Olympics like this. - caccia, on 04/18/2008, -2/+5Look at it this way though IC...our world opinion is in the can anyway, so why not go ahead and boycott? Nothing to lose in the way of popularity. We're sort of at the bottom right now :) Low Risk, High Reward lol.
- Buddymack, on 04/22/2008, -0/+2The best way of sending a message is to support your local American small business, if the quality is sub par, write a letter to them and tell them that you would love to support them, but the quality or whatever stinks or whatever just let them know that if it didn't stink you want to support them...
I know I seem off the subject but we are getting too China,, Mexico, India and well everybody else dependent ....
remember when Walmart used to brag about made in America? - jontalisman, on 04/19/2008, -1/+3Definitely dugg.
- domainlovah, on 04/23/2008, -0/+2Boycotting the Olympics is not a smart idea. The Olympics are not and should not be a political forum. The Olympics are and should be about the athletes and their sacrifices to reach this level of competition.
Besides, what better method, vehicle or media to expose the problems within China then by exposing them to the world on a global broadcast television event. - AlbinoRaven, on 04/19/2008, -2/+4"1) centralization of authority under a dictator, 2) stringent socioeconomic controls, 3) suppression of the opposition through terror and censorship, and 4) a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism."
Sounds like the good old US uv A - inactive, on 04/22/2008, -0/+2It seems like a mute issue, Everybody just take a day or so and walk through Wal Mart, K Mart, Cost Co, and every other retailer in the Nation. Look at the Origin of most of the products on the shelf, then lets start this conversation again.
- inactive, on 04/22/2008, -0/+2I would too. When I shop I try to aim for products made in America. Given, I often end up buying foreign made products--just because that's all that's there--but I try.
- BibleNut, on 04/22/2008, -1/+2I'm glad you defined what fascism actually is. We tend to through terms around and forget their true meaning. Thanks for reminding us. Blessings to ya!
- wardawg31, on 04/22/2008, -1/+2Icon stated, "What would happen if some athlete standing at the top of the stage whipped out a Tibetan flag?"
Your comment on a Tibetan flag started me to think about how China will handle that situation. Will all the athletes be searched before the medal ceremonies? Will the person that brings out the flag be expelled from the country and the games? This should be an fun time to watch! - daltonsbriefs, on 04/19/2008, -2/+3A boycott does not help us teach the Chinese people about freedom of speech. We didn't break the Soviets by boycotting, we broke them by communicating, by trading goods and services, by giving their people enough hope to throw off the tyranny that bound them.
Send the athletes and give the Chinese people hope - inactive, on 04/23/2008, -0/+1Well, only athletes who can *piss electric light into a cup* are considered. I think that most know by now what a small subset that is. -- Cannabis included; As it was called a 'performance enhancing drug' over the snowboarding event. I think the whole event is a piece of crap. But that's just me talking.
- inactive, on 04/19/2008, -1/+2What do you think the Iraq war is about? Why do you think China is stock piling Oil? Why do you think Russia is selling arms to Iran who is providing arms to insurgents?
We are planning to stand up to China, which is why we are trying to jockey into a good geopolitical position. - inactive, on 04/19/2008, -1/+2American consumerism bankrolls, American companies that Manufacture in China.
- LeZeb, on 04/22/2008, -1/+2a boycott might no be the best thing to do, the best way to denunciate China and its abuses might be to let the thousands of journalists that would be there investigate, and offer to Chinese people a way to speak out ... then maybe they will not tell us anything else than nationalist speeches like this one :

- inactive, on 04/19/2008, -3/+3You are so far removed from reality that I almost feel guilty in blocking you. Almost.
- inactive, on 04/19/2008, -2/+2Look what happened to Dan and Dave.
- inactive, on 04/19/2008, -2/+2Sports should be the one thins that binds us. Do you have ANY idea just how dumb you sound? Not only can you not spell, but you think that sports is this cosmic unifier, which ticks off those who don't care about sports and the human rights and political rights activists in one fell swoop. This is the kind of advanced stupidity that you can only find on digg and dkos.
- inactive, on 04/19/2008, -1/+1Nope. We can't because a majority of the things you buy from China are made by American based companies. You only hurt the US. Asia's economy has a dramatic impact on ours.

- RobertEK, on 07/16/2008, -0/+0Iconoclast you are a grade A history ignorant reject.
The Americans got their asses kicked by Nazi Germany in the Olympics. If you actually care to read a book they won more gold, silver, and bronze medals than not only the Americans but everyone else placing #1 out of every country.
Your logic and knowledge of history is ridiculous. Did you know, for example, that blacks were actually in germany and even int he german army under Nazi rule? I am sure you didn't because you sound like an idiot.
As far as Supermen that theory is unproven but sound. Look at world history and you will see that white people have a hand in pretty much every major historical and current scientific & Architectural breakthrough known to man. Asians are incredibly smart but they don't really invent anything new (Yet). Jews are very good inventors but then..what race are they? Mostly white. Superman, in Nazi Idealism doesn't mean stopping bullets or winning foot races. It never did. That's actually from a movie.
In real life your retarded fantasies about history are useless. - inactive, on 04/18/2008, -3/+2China was just trying to stop an Olympic terrorist plot. Go ahead and boycott the Olympics and China will hyperinflate the Yaun.

- inactive, on 04/19/2008, -3/+1If the threat of hundreds of weeping teenage-American Olympic hopefuls having their dreams crushed doesn't convince China to abandon its oppressive policies, I don't know what will.
- trry96, on 04/19/2008, -6/+4The middle east should boycott America: send US a message.
- joshradde, on 04/18/2008, -7/+5Olympics is sports. There have always been differences between nations and cultures, there always HAS been. Sports should be the one thins that binds us. This is crap.
