http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_much_does_it_cost_to ...
You know what's *****? PENNIES. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FffTJk-gFKc - dannykeene, on 02/18/2009, -13/+336It cost 1.4c to make a 1c penny.
F'ing ridiculous.
Only the US government can run a business like that - trammell, on 02/17/2009, -25/+338I realize that with President Obama (an Illinoisan and fervent disciple of Lincoln) in office this likely won't happen, but can we please get rid of the penny already?!
- airwalkery2k, on 02/18/2009, -4/+239Darn it. Now it'll be harder to pass of my counterfeit pennies.
- inactive, on 02/18/2009, -1/+200cool, i'll take 4 of the new ones and buy 4 shares of GM stock.

- DirtyBinLV, on 02/18/2009, -7/+158Every time I throw pennies in the trash, I think of my Jewish ancestors spinning in their graves.
- rft3rd, on 02/18/2009, -0/+99The 5 dollar bill?
- amauldin71, on 02/18/2009, -15/+91Can I get a commemorative one with Obama on it? It'd look sweet next to the plate I ordered.
- blueagave00, on 02/18/2009, -6/+79Keeping the penny actually makes a lot of cents if you think about it.
- inactive, on 02/18/2009, -2/+74yeah ***** PENNIES
- honeybrass, on 02/18/2009, -0/+72Don't do it! in a month you'll be able to buy 8 shares
- jemka, on 02/18/2009, -0/+70The penny is the new $3.
The only Penny I ever liked was inspector gadget's niece. - GB570, on 02/18/2009, -7/+72You throw pennies in the trash? Why not melt them down..they're worth 1.4 pennies a piece.
- ophello, on 02/18/2009, -6/+59Pennies must die.
...seriously...who uses them? - denkc, on 02/18/2009, -2/+54“I will seriously consider eliminating the penny as long as we find another place for Lincoln to land.” - Obama

- diggopolous, on 02/18/2009, -3/+52The only practical use of pennies is to insult waiters.
- latalianheat, on 02/18/2009, -8/+56and I still won't pause for three seconds to pick one up...
- grahamvinyl, on 02/18/2009, -0/+46They're not worth 1.4 cents in raw metal. That's just the cost to produce them.
- depaulBaatar, on 02/18/2009, -4/+49If the Fed keeps printing money, we won't need any coins.
- Hoogs, on 02/18/2009, -1/+40How about we wait to see if he's actually any good.
- jmnormand, on 02/18/2009, -2/+41ok grandma get off the internet...
- DeathJux, on 02/18/2009, -1/+37I've been living in New Zealand for a bit over a year, and they ditched the penny coin a while ago, so any value that's ends <5 is rounded down, and any 5+ is rounded up to the nearest ten.
I was incredulous at first, but it's really nice, as it makes all change valuable, with the smallest now being a 10-cent piece.
For example: $4.53 becomes $4.50. $9.87 becomes $9.90. etc, etc.
I hope the US moves to something like this at some point, as pennies are seriously retarded. - duggdowncatisad, on 02/18/2009, -0/+35bus riders pissed off that the fare got raised
- spork2900, on 02/18/2009, -0/+35and it costs under 10c to make a 100 dollar bill
one 100$ bill alone covers the additional .4c of a penny almost 25,000 times. - douglasr007, on 02/18/2009, -0/+33You know why pennies aren't *****?
I've been sticking $30 in pennies up my ass every day for the past 11 years! That's 3,000 pennies a day; 21,000 pennies a week; 1,092,000 pennies a year! To date that's 12,012,000 pennies, 8 times the population of Nebraska. Those pennies were in my ass! You think you're better than me? Oh, you're not better than me. You handle my ass pennies every day. You pick up my ass pennies for good luck. You throw my ass pennies in fountains and make wishes on them. You give my ass pennies to your little daughter to buy gumballs with. - KibibyteBrain, on 02/18/2009, -3/+35penny = worthless garbage (given)
penny = (1/100)*dollar (given)
dollar < worthless garbage (given)
dollar < penny (substitution)
dollar < (1/100)*dollar (substitution)
1 < (1/100) (division)
Contradiction. - homah, on 02/18/2009, -4/+36Put him on the $20. Having Jackson on there is some kind of sick joke.
- ZombieSociety, on 02/18/2009, -5/+35Don't worry, the US won't do anything that makes cents.
ucwatididthar? - honeybrass, on 02/18/2009, -1/+30I'm going to get $100 in pennies, melt it down and sell it for $140.
Of course the time to collect, cost of furnace, and energy will probably run to more than $500, so maybe it is a bad idea. - Ishiguro, on 02/18/2009, -0/+29Bring back the HALF-PENNY!!
- inactive, on 02/18/2009, -0/+28Be honest, when's the last time you actually used a penny in purchasing something?
Because statistically speaking, two-thirds of all pennies which are put into circulation are given out, saved by the consumers, and never seen again. It's why we have to mint so many.
The penny really is a completely worthless piece of currency. There's no reason to keep it around. - GB570, on 02/18/2009, -0/+26Pennies are dirty anyways....they're all ass pennies.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9JkHtLp8C8 - DefaultGen, on 02/18/2009, -5/+31New pennies. A step backwards.
- r3bol, on 02/18/2009, -1/+261 penny = 97.5% Zinc = Zinc industry win!
- vawksel, on 02/18/2009, -11/+35yeah but you don't just use a penny once then make it zap into thin air. A 1.4c penny could be used thousands of times and when it's done with its life, is recycled into new pennies.
- jrackow, on 02/18/2009, -4/+28You're $5 bill idea is a good one. We should come up with one of those. Plus, it would be good to have so you can make easier change for a $10 bill. For instance, instead of just giving out 10 $1's, you could give out 5-$1's, and then a $5. Or, now that I think about it, you could give 2-$5's.
- NomortaL1, on 02/18/2009, -0/+20100 trillion.
- raptordrew, on 02/18/2009, -0/+19Too bad, that makes me a dollar richer than you each year.
- honeybrass, on 02/18/2009, -0/+19If the fed keeps printing money soon we'll be Zimbabwe.
- fxu1989, on 02/18/2009, -1/+20So I guess I'll be picking up new pennies from the ground now?
I pick-up every penny (and coin) I see. I have a jar full of money that it's filled with coins I found on the ground. I've gone to those machines in the supermarket to exchange it for bills, I made around $50 in 2008. That's $50 that weren't mine, nor did I work for it!
I walk to college so I'm picking up coins almost every day, plus the fact that I pass by quite a few plazas. - Zedian, on 02/18/2009, -0/+18or strippers.
- geodebug, on 02/18/2009, -0/+18What's the problem, they only issued four. They used to make millions of those things.
- postitnote, on 02/18/2009, -1/+19For every penny I get, I put it in my ass, then take it out and spend it. Within a few years, pretty much everyone has handled one of my ass pennies.
- OwdenBowden, on 02/18/2009, -2/+19Get rid of the Penny? What are you John Wilkes Booth?
- NeonDistraction, on 02/18/2009, -3/+20It cost you the time to pick up those pennies. Let's assume 75% of the coins you picked up were pennies, or 3 out of every 4 coins. That's $37.50 or 3,750 pennies. And let's just assume it takes you only 1 second to pick up a penny. That's 62.5 minutes.
Granted, you earned $50 for that hour, which is pretty damn good. I'm just saying you did technically work for it. - smacksaw, on 02/18/2009, -3/+19Only 4? They'd better make a lot more than that considering how many are lost, destroyed and worn out every day.
- jynweythek, on 02/18/2009, -1/+17what to do with all your pennies? :)
