- knobtwiddler, on 10/15/2007, -8/+61maybe they should lose some weight
- JackBurden, on 10/15/2007, -2/+22Correlation =/ causation, no matter how much the "results" make us feel warm and fuzzy by conforming to our deepest desires.
Or, as TFA says:
"Both McKinsey and Catalyst note that these correlations do not necessarily mean senior women cause superior financial performance." - SmackMyMac, on 10/15/2007, -0/+15Sorry sir but you can't park your van in the board room. Oh, it's just our CEO.
- KlayBorg, on 10/15/2007, -4/+19Could it be because the companies with a larger amount of women than the average company are more progressive and inventive and open to change?
- scabbers, on 10/15/2007, -11/+23I'd love to see a graph plotting PMS with firings.
- KlayBorg, on 10/14/2007, -1/+12Explain to me how I assumed that?
- baalzebub, on 10/15/2007, -2/+13http://z.about.com/d/animatedtv/1/7/4/mom.jpg
- Dexter77, on 10/15/2007, -0/+9Maybe it's because top 1% of women manage to become senior executives, but top 10% of men? I would be surprised if the top 1% women didn't outperform the top 10% of men. Top 1% vs top 1% is a totally different discussion.
- lordmutt, on 10/15/2007, -2/+10Aww crap the two women who visit digg are never gonna let us live this down boys....
- inactive, on 10/15/2007, -8/+16My company is the most profitable in the world in its industry, the executives are all men, and the directors in my department (IS, so it's not too suprising here) are all men.
- flair1, on 10/15/2007, -3/+10Is it me or every woman manager I ever had was a man hating ballbreaker?
- crapmatic, on 10/15/2007, -1/+8You beat me to it. I saw the headline and thought this was going to be about overweight female CEOs.
- ellecon, on 10/15/2007, -2/+9Skill has nothing to do with genitals. I rarely let my vagina make important financial decisions.
- asaone, on 10/15/2007, -4/+11who cares what women do in the work place, all I see women doing is running men down where ever they can and as often as they can
- despil, on 10/15/2007, -0/+7Just think about Margaret Thatcher, or the Gandhi lady.
Statistically women proved to be more prone to go for war so far.
Not that it means anything. Maybe the only thing it means is that only the ruthless women can get into power. - Optimus, on 10/15/2007, -1/+7>>Just how many FEWER WARS would there be if women ran the world ? Think about it.
You're either a) a woman or b) have *never* had a girlfriend! No offense, but you need to spend a lot more time in the real world. - badassninja, on 10/14/2007, -5/+11Wow... could this be a little more sexist?
- felman87, on 10/15/2007, -0/+6It's the one that sells water to people
- CheeseburgerBro, on 10/15/2007, -1/+7Men and women *do* work together. The result? Babies.
- KlayBorg, on 10/15/2007, -1/+7You are kidding me right?
- inactive, on 10/15/2007, -2/+8I thought this was a story about fat women at first glance.
- r00tus3r, on 10/15/2007, -1/+6Well, it makes sense that if companies don't discriminate based on sex or anything else, they will end up with the more suitable candidate for most positions. I don't think this is indicative of female superiority but more so an indication that discrimination can be a bad business practice when it rules out the better candidate for the position.
- barius, on 10/15/2007, -0/+5I think the most likely reason for this correlation is that when a company embraces equality all the way to the top, it engenders a working environment that is motivational for both sexes all the way to the bottom. The result: everyone likes working in a friendly environment where they are treated equally based on performance rather than gender.
- stupergenius, on 10/15/2007, -2/+6Lol I read bedroom...it didn't make sense for the longest time.
- cranium, on 10/15/2007, -0/+4Hey, that's not fair. She didn't fail because she was a woman, she failed because she was a stupid elitist poser.
- SpykerSpeed, on 10/15/2007, -1/+5Uhh... does anyone remember Carly of HP fame? She drove that company into the ground.
- muya, on 10/15/2007, -0/+4King of the Hill is definitely not a "woman knows best " show. Hank is constantly saving peggys ass. Also peggy acts like a stupid bitch all the time.
- merm, on 10/15/2007, -1/+5After reading down this whole thread of comments it really amazes me how many defensive comments there are here by men that somehow feel threatened by this article. As a guy I really am genuinely surprised.
- sv650touring, on 10/15/2007, -0/+4prolly meant King of Queens, since that actually is a "woman knows best" crap show
- inactive, on 10/14/2007, -1/+5press enter, wait for the intro, press enter again, press "load map", press "popular maps"
http://theyrule.net/ - noumuon, on 10/15/2007, -0/+3or the diggers who read the article and found a fat women joke to be more worthwhile than its contents.
- the0ther, on 10/15/2007, -0/+3it's because women are the new men
- skuzbuket, on 10/15/2007, -1/+4As some have already noted, correlation does not mean causation -- however, if women truly do cause better performing companies, I wouldn't be surprised. However, that still doesn't mean that women are more capable - I would tend to think there are more women executives out there feeling they have something to prove because of their not sticking with traditional gender roles. It would make an interesting case study, or a good topic for a graduate thesis.
- Zique, on 10/15/2007, -1/+4I'd imagine it's because for men making connections is much easier than for women. Goes to show what a corporate culture where you get raises based on skills, not connections, can do.
- inactive, on 10/15/2007, -1/+4Or just stop listening to women when they talk.
- cranium, on 10/15/2007, -2/+5Especially the really uptight ones who can't deal with free thinkers and feel like they have to have everything *their* way.
/sarcasm - Huggebugge, on 10/15/2007, -4/+7And it was released at a womans conference.
In Sweden we have a Professor in Feminism, she knows the secret!
You know, the secret where all men rapes and murders women and children and bury them in the forest.
She even knew where, but when they went to check it out, it was all gone.
This is not a joke, she was totally serious, were paying this woman with our tax money.
Just dont believe everything women say - inactive, on 10/15/2007, -0/+3me enjoy your english it am well.
- inactive, on 10/14/2007, -0/+3http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/fcd50a5a-7746-11dc-9de8- ...
Yours asked for registration. This is the one linked to from Google News. Worked for me. - inactive, on 10/15/2007, -2/+5I really hope this makes it to the front page. I want to count how many "fat women" jokes show up from diggers not actually reading the article, but rather misinterpreting the title.
- faskill, on 10/15/2007, -1/+3What about ugly female execs? What about successful, attractive male execs in their prime? What about homosexual male execs? Many flaws to your argument.
- cranium, on 10/15/2007, -0/+2BZZT! It's the LDS Church, Inc.
- ellecon, on 10/15/2007, -2/+4Only for the fact that the company is less likely to be sexist. However, having a vagina does not mean that the owner is any more progressive, inventive, or open to change than those who have penises.
- cranium, on 10/14/2007, -0/+2It doesn't rule it out either.
- inactive, on 10/15/2007, -5/+7wow shut up already
yes women are good, men are bad. women are superior, men are not. its been beaten into us already by king of the hill and other such 'woman knows best' shows. please give it a rest with the propaganda articles. - ConfirmedCynic, on 10/15/2007, -1/+3Because heaven help any man comment on or defend themselves against an overwhelming social trend.
- KungFuJesus, on 10/15/2007, -0/+2Women spend a ***** load of money, so maybe women CEOs get bigger bottom lines by catering to women
- asaone, on 10/15/2007, -0/+2You got that right
- faskill, on 10/14/2007, -0/+2Yes.
- ConfirmedCynic, on 10/22/2007, -1/+3Well, after a steady diet of this sort of crap in all the media outlets, "women are better", "men are stupid", "men are evil", one becomes a little fed up?
Show me some companies that women have started and built up into multi-billion dollar industries, rather than just embedded (pun not intended) themselves in, and I'll be more impressed. -
