That's pretty much the whole article. - jcounterman, on 01/09/2008, -1/+35The next time digg screams at me about the iPod Nano's I've apparently won, I'm leaving. Christ, some of these ads remind me of what I'd see on MySpace.
- charlie55, on 01/09/2008, -1/+27if continue to hear this "you won 2 free ipod nanos" ad, i am afraid i wll have to quit visiting digg.
- Awspire, on 01/09/2008, -1/+24Hey, I was selected to win two free IPod Nanos! Good thing I had AdBlock off, or I would have lost out on this awesome deal. Thanks Digg!
- Adrianc333, on 01/09/2008, -4/+23Why are there people on that list at age 30, when the title is "Top 20 Internet Millionaires __Under 30__" :(
- inactive, on 01/09/2008, -0/+17The list is bullcrap, here's why:
1. Mark Zuckerberg owns about 20% of Facebook which makes his stake in Facebook worth $3B now that Microsoft bought a 1.6% stake for $240 million valuing the company at $15B. Source: http://www.02138mag.com/magazine/article/1724.html
2. Chad Hurley is worth at least $326M as he and Steven Chen sold the majority of their shares. Source: http://mashable.com/2007/02/07/youtubes-chad-hurle ...
3. Kevin Rose simply can't be a millionaire just yet as he never sold Digg to anybody and Digg is just breaking even.
4. Where did Ryan Block from Engadget get his millions? He is not even it's founder!
5. Almost every other name on the list raises very BIG questions... - eternalsnows, on 01/09/2008, -0/+16Argh! First of all, this is blogspam. Second, the real article at http://www.retireat21.com/top-young-entrepreneurs/ clearly states that the numbers are "annual turnover" for the business. Mark Zuckerberg isn't personally getting $700 million. I'm sure he's doing fine, but let's not confuse these amounts with salary or personal net worth.
- inactive, on 01/09/2008, -1/+16oh ***** i didnt even notice Kevin Rose on there. theres no way he has 31 million and still lives in that ***** apartment.
- ivoices, on 01/09/2008, -5/+18Ok, those guys are rich, but most of that is paper money. It's not like they have the cash in the bank. That would be a different story.
- credential101, on 01/09/2008, -5/+18Dear Wordpress,
You suck horses *****.
Love,
Digg Users - bobmyvilla, on 01/09/2008, -3/+16Makes me feel like going to college just isn't enough for a 18-25 year.
- inactive, on 01/09/2008, -4/+14All your base are belong to us.
- radstopper, on 01/09/2008, -4/+14Ha! Just you wait till the next dot com bubble bursts. Then it's back to Mariocart marathons for the lot of them.
- JedicodeWarrior, on 01/09/2008, -2/+11Good article. But can these kids actually lay hands on their $700M or is that just the market's valuation of the business.
- AustinHannah, on 01/09/2008, -3/+11You have no chance to survive make your time!
- inactive, on 01/09/2008, -1/+9...what?
- SteaminTmann, on 01/09/2008, -1/+9You write like a nigerian spammer...
- adml_shake, on 01/09/2008, -2/+9You've obviously never dated a woman.
- Spytap, on 01/09/2008, -2/+9If you're having site problems I feel bad for you clowns. It's got 99 diggs and the site is down.
- actorboy, on 01/09/2008, -1/+7You didn't think free iPod nanos just fell from the sky, did you?
- inactive, on 01/09/2008, -1/+7This list just depresses the hell out of me. It makes me want to cancel my domains, scrap the sites and give up. But... I imagine that some of these internet millionaires struggled to make their brand known too.
- Arbinshire, on 01/09/2008, -1/+7Ads? Oh. Not using Firefox + Adblock + Filterset.G? You must be new.
- MarsSentinel, on 01/09/2008, -0/+6to qualify as a millionaire, do you still have to "have" t he money or do you simply have to have made it?
I mean, I have made over a million dollars in my life but I only have $2.25 in my pocket. - centran, on 01/09/2008, -0/+6holy *****. Runescape is worth that much!
- 0crabby0, on 01/09/2008, -1/+7Whaaat Kevin Rose [ Digg ] 30 years old | $31M?
Clearly Kevin is not being productive enough - He should should have at least 62 Million.
Time to crack the whip... - dirtyfrog, on 01/09/2008, -1/+7Is paper money no longer accepted currency?
/sarcasm - vade79, on 01/09/2008, -0/+616. Catherine and David Cook [ My Year Book ] 17 & 19 years old | $10M
...that one stings the most. :( - inactive, on 01/09/2008, -1/+7Google got it: http://209.85.165.104/search?q=cache%3Awww.dulcene ...
- xdvx, on 01/09/2008, -2/+7Internet business is best right now, because anyone can get in that list.
- Sparkster185, on 01/09/2008, -0/+5*their
- patricks, on 01/09/2008, -1/+6Yeah... "anyone."
What's your excuse then? - pwnerofnoobs, on 01/09/2008, -1/+6I have a headache and you just made it worse.
- mhanley, on 01/09/2008, -1/+5adblock?
- JedicodeWarrior, on 01/09/2008, -0/+4Doubt it. Most of it's the market's valuation. Most companies don't even make that much less some kid in his 20's.
- rugby4ward, on 01/09/2008, -0/+4buried for plagiarist spam.
- deano6410, on 01/09/2008, -0/+3this is the site that was copied from: http://www.retireat21.com/top-young-entrepreneurs/
- wpjmurray, on 01/09/2008, -0/+3He means that the value is not "real" in the sense that the company has all of that money in the bank. It's based on market valuation. For example, when Kevin Rose was on the cover of Business Week, he was supposedly worth $60 million. But that was just based on his ownership portion of Digg with a market valuation of $500 million. Now this list is saying he's worth $31 million, but that's still just based on market valuation. He does not have $31 million in the bank, and most of these people are only worth that amount on "paper", ie. stock or market value. The only ones I believe are the sites that are actually selling a product, like Biz Chair and Hear and Play.
- clperez390, on 01/09/2008, -0/+3Original Article: http://www.retireat21.com/top-young-entrepreneurs/ skip the blog spam
- niviche, on 01/09/2008, -0/+3I didn't think I had been living under a rock, but I have never heard of 11 sites out of these 20 (what's that "Biz Chair" thing)?
Oh, and without starting a debate about p2p, I'm sure that a lot of independent programmers, musicians and film makers will be delighted to know that the Pirate Bay guy is supposedly so very rich. - A11YND, on 01/09/2008, -0/+3its World of *****-craft.
- shark72, on 01/10/2008, -0/+3TPB clears much more in ad revenue than operating costs. The guys who run it have a pretty good lifestyle. While I do agree that they like to spin it as a movement and that their ads just cover costs, it's just that -- spin. They're a for-profit enterprise and they're profiting handsomely. More power to them.
I do think it would be cool if they'd announce that they'll start donating, say, 10% of their profits to the most-pirated artists. The estimates are that they clear about $25K - $50K per month after expenses, so 10% could be as much as $50K a year. If they spread that among the top 50 most pirated artists on pirate bay, it would be only about $1,000 a year, which isn't much -- but it would be a great way of saying "we support you, even though we don't support your business model." But, I'm cynical enough to acknowledge that something like this probably won't happen. - Emperial, on 01/09/2008, -0/+3Runescape.... 650M.... This only proves that crap games do sell....
- yaaqov, on 01/09/2008, -3/+6Yep, with their millions of dollars in the bank, they'll be able to sit around playing Mariocart all day, instead of having to work. Sounds nice. :-)
- atheinostic, on 01/09/2008, -0/+3World of Warcraft for poor people
- techmonkey4u, on 01/09/2008, -0/+3"Money is a lousy way of keeping score."
- l2OI3, on 01/10/2008, -0/+2That Kevin Rose still has to save up for a couch (allegedly).
- XYZ1, on 01/09/2008, -0/+2I was not aware the Fredrik Neij from The Pirate Bay is a millionaire. Maybe he will loose all his money in the future due to some court decisions regarding copyrighted material or so...
- sholt, on 01/09/2008, -0/+2damnit, you have more than me right now... :(
- XYZ1, on 01/09/2008, -0/+2Yes it's really amazing. I was also not aware of this! The Pirate Bay guy has earned millions with copyright material and he's not in prison, unbelievable.
