The social media bubble that wasted your time
charlesheflin.com — We are in a technology bubble that ’s about to bust and leave peoples’ time wasted like splattered paint on the floor. The moment that the mainstream realizes you don’t need to be involved in 10, 20, 30 (100?) social media platforms will be the moment the bubble will burst… It’s coming soon and hopefully this post will help speed up the process.

- seemamistry, on 09/12/2008, -0/+0great article for social marketers!
- cosmochao, on 09/12/2008, -0/+1There is certainly a level of truth to this article. I don't believe that a person needs very many 'social networks' to be successful networking on the net. I believe all the 'new' social sites will die off (or the bubble will burst as the article states). But as it also says, MANY will remain standing -- there is little doubt. Those are the social sites I spend my time in.
I agree a person MUST create value and build relationships or NOTHING will happen.
However, the article doesn't make it clear that the very blog post we were reading is, in fact, a powerful and effective way STILL to build relationships.
The blog that this article is written on is social media... and it's clear that the author plans to keep at it for the long run. Follow his lead by creating valuable content... through your own perspective... don't get bogged down in too many social site locations (although I think one is unrealistically shallow water)... more like 4-10 will do... focusing on 3 or so with most your social time is all you need. But link building--there is no doubt that this will benefit you so that's where I fundamentally disagree. By building links I built a huge audience who now promotes my stuff. If I hadn't done that than nobody would know who I was out here on the net! - trisholeary, on 09/12/2008, -0/+1I read this article this morning and was blown away. It all makes so much sense!! Charles is such an amazing visionary and genius!
Make it a Great Day!
