- girlpirate, on 02/20/2008, -22/+299It amuses me that we Canadians have always gotten ***** about our "monopoly money" and here you guys are printing rainbow money.
- trammell, on 02/20/2008, -4/+189Almost as cool as the new fiver is how portfolio.com shows off the bill's new features. Very nicely done.
- yohnstoppable, on 02/20/2008, -7/+154I tried to pay a stripper with monopoly money. She said "that's fake money". I said, "well them's fake titties"
- RealmDown, on 02/20/2008, -3/+125That's the doppler shift as its value speeds away.
- rdhazrd, on 02/20/2008, -9/+116Well, at least our Dollar (US) is almost equal to the Monopoly Dollar, so take that!
- entrophize, on 02/20/2008, -2/+92"George Washington must be green with envy."
/facepalm - DreKor, on 02/20/2008, -1/+77The bill from 1896 was badass.
- uruururr, on 02/20/2008, -3/+66im american as apple pie, but canadian/european style colored money just makes so much more sense its ridiculous. i think the new iterations of canadian money are beautifuly designed with their bold colors and countless anti counterfeit features. someone should correct me if i am wrong, but to aide the blind, i believe canadian money has braille indentations.
however, toonies and loonies suck ass. i am constantly burdened by massive bulky coin change. at least euro coins are small!
nobody's perfect i suppose. - OhROFL, on 02/20/2008, -7/+54We have to. People actually counterfeit our money.
- JLecker, on 02/20/2008, -0/+43It's got some red on it.
- SwimGeek0607, on 02/20/2008, -2/+41Now all we need to do is make our money worth something, and we'll be golden!
- jebus123, on 02/20/2008, -2/+37It's got purple. Purple is a fruit.
-Homer - chris4404, on 02/20/2008, -1/+31Whats with feature 2? Is Adobe in on it?
- temjrpgh, on 02/20/2008, -2/+31i don't care about what it looks like, I'm concerned about it's buying power.
- eighties, on 02/20/2008, -0/+29Cleverness++
- p51d007, on 02/20/2008, -0/+28It's one of those "secrets" they won't tell you about. I've been in the photocopier repair business for 27 years. When we have a school on new color machines, we usually find a small board with a non labeled "chip" with two connectors. One goes to one board, the other to another board. There isn't any mention of it anywhere, no names on the board or anything. But, disconnect it and the machine becomes a paper weight.
I would assume the yellow is in such a pattern, and a color depth on purpose. When you scan anything in a color machine,
the machine (at least the ones I work on) have 4 CCD's. Three have filters of red, green, blue. The 4th one, is for black only.
After scanning, the output from the CCD is amplified, and sent to an analog to digital converter, then sent to an image processor. Here, image smoothing, and high definition processing takes place. It is also at this step that the little board mentioned above comes into place. I would suspect that their is code in the micro printing and color that will stop the scan dead in its tracks. We've had it happen before. A customer at a church just happened to be printing some home-made greeting cards and her paper & printing was just about the same shade as money. The machine stopped, flashed up an error code and a 1-800 number to call. A day later, the treasury, or secret service (whoever handles such things) shows up and
interviewed her and the original. At that point he entered a specific code (which I don't even know) which unlocked the
machine. He took a sample of her original with him.
Also, even on inkjets, if you get under a high power (10x or above) magnifying glass, and look in the white areas on a piece of
paper that has been printed, you will see a VERY faint yellow dot pattern in a specific matrix. This is the "fingerprint" of the
machine. Contains manufacturer data, serial number, build date etc. This makes it easier to trace back who bought the
machine. - Skurt, on 02/20/2008, -5/+32Where are the boobies on this 5 dollar bill? Bring back the Boobies!
(paid for by the bring back the boobies committee) - appleseed1234, on 02/20/2008, -2/+29Well it might look a little strange, but it sure as hell beats the logo for the London 2012 Olympics.
- Remmy, on 02/20/2008, -0/+23Want to go down to the Winchester for a pint?
- Sornos, on 02/20/2008, -2/+24Those still rhyme. In fact they're homophones... I don't know where you get your ideas about Canadian accents. Oh and we don't rhyme boot with about.
- musters, on 02/20/2008, -1/+22unofficial spelling is "Loonie".
- girlpirate, on 02/20/2008, -5/+25k, maybe Im dumb but when I say those words they rhyme. wait. maybe that makes you dumb.
- fakekevinrose, on 02/20/2008, -0/+19Look at that subtle off-white coloring. The tasteful thickness of it.
Oh my God, it even has a watermark... - an0nymous, on 02/20/2008, -0/+19otherwise they would never find out.
- thefandango, on 02/20/2008, -5/+24i've always liked the looney.
- veriix, on 02/20/2008, -0/+18I like turtles...but no time for that now!
- pbaehr, on 02/20/2008, -0/+18Photoshop uses different methods of detecting bills. It's still not clear exactly what it is. From what I've read, even Adobe doesn't know what it is because it was provided as black-box software from the government. The feature they are talking about in No. 2 is commonly used on copiers and scanners and it appears on a huge amount of currency from all over the world.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurion_constellation - bjerkeweb, on 02/20/2008, -3/+21Lincoln was one good-looking *****
- sickswaystop, on 02/20/2008, -2/+20eh?
- ogmak, on 02/20/2008, -2/+19I thought the 5 dollar bill was too cheap to give it color. I guess I was wrong. I'm voting for blue 1's
- MasterThief117, on 02/20/2008, -0/+16You know what else was badass about it? It had boobs on it.
- lnxfi, on 02/20/2008, -3/+19The one with the horses, horns and ***** was much much better. Everything else sucks in comparison.
- uberfu, on 02/20/2008, -2/+17Sorry to EVERYONE who thinks CLOUD and CLOUT rhyme_ But the term is actaully called "Alliteration"
Rhyming happens when the ending of 2 [or more] words are the same and the beginnings of those words are different_
Words that Rhyme:
Peach-Beach
Rink-Sink-Pink-Link-Stink-Blink-Drink-Think
Pear-Bear-Care-Hair-Share-Wear-There-Fair-Dare-Chair
Alliteration:
Cloud-Clout-Clash-Clunk
Broom-Brain-Brown-Breach_Bracket-Brace
Dig-Dog-Dose-Devil-Dance - Grimdotdotdot, on 02/20/2008, -2/+17Christ, is that the best you can do?
- bigbadgoat, on 02/20/2008, -0/+14yeah, it has braille
- EXreaction, on 02/20/2008, -0/+13True, even if the dollar value is falling off a cliff, it is accepted pretty much everywhere...
- bigdoof, on 02/20/2008, -0/+13Exactly, those who can't immediately tell the difference between demoninations don't deserve to spend money. Also, what's the deal with wheelchair ramps? I never have a problem going up stairs.
- BuzzFriendly, on 02/20/2008, -4/+17I would rather the government spend more time restoring the value to the dollar than wasting money changing its color.
- Jektal, on 02/20/2008, -0/+13The loonie is kind of cool, but nothing special. Now, the 2 dollar coin (toonie?) is a damn cool looking coin!
http://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve ... - xtremesniper, on 02/20/2008, -0/+12They also have a lot more measures that may not be instantly noticable. On the Face side of a Canadian bill, check out the bottom right corner to the left of the big number.
You see those seemingly random straight and curved lines? Hold the bill up to a light. The pattern completes on the other side, and the result is the completed number that the bill is worth, for example: 5, 10, or 20.
I only noticed THAT one a week ago. - opticrime, on 02/20/2008, -3/+15Um they may have coloured bills now but... does their $5 have a picture of a hockey game on the back? Nope.
Canada 1, USA 0 - nbcaffeine, on 02/20/2008, -2/+14That isn't a real breakfast
- inactive, on 02/20/2008, -9/+20grape juice? what the ***** is juice.. i want purple drink
- dasbush, on 02/20/2008, -1/+12I'm not sure if it is braille, but there are squares of indentations in the corner. One block is a five, two blocks means 10, three is for twenties, not sure after that. There are six dots per block.
- musters, on 02/20/2008, -3/+13Classic!
- Pilot85, on 02/20/2008, -1/+11I lol'ed.
- sonicjosh, on 02/20/2008, -0/+10I can only dream of having "monopoly money," it would make it so much easier by just picking the colour instead of looking through my wallet for a 10/similar situation.
- ppvanzella, on 02/20/2008, -1/+11And also when you are blind, which is pretty nice.
- elusiveqc, on 02/20/2008, -2/+12you don't read the news much, do you?
- Cougarcat, on 02/20/2008, -3/+13I wish they would make bills different sizes, like the Euro. They are much easier to differentiate when they're in your wallet.
