- LongShlong, on 08/29/2008, -3/+18It seems like almost all of these reasons are used to cope with being poor... What a terrible list.
- gavinhudson, on 08/29/2008, -5/+16"I'm John McCain and I approve this message."
- vtbarrera, on 02/03/2009, -0/+7Like Biggie said, "Mo money mo problems".
- inigomntoya, on 08/29/2008, -0/+6The title is a bit misleading (it incites that it is good to be poor and stay poor), but I like the overall message of the article.
I think anyone who looks at something that others have that they themselves do not have are left with three choices:
1 - do nothing, never succeed because you will never be good enough
2 - bitch and moan to someone until they give it to you (or you can always sue)
3 - find something you are good at, find something that no one else has done before, or find something that someone else is doing wrong. Make it better and make that person you are envying your janitor. - upick, on 08/29/2008, -2/+8I think this article is trying to make poor people feel good about themselves...so yes thanks I feel great!
- syndustry, on 08/29/2008, -3/+9written by a rich person.
- dizavin, on 08/30/2008, -0/+5coming from a family that was fairly well off and after a divorce, dropped to a very poor class. and to be honest? I don't think I would have grown up to be such a resourceful or well rounded person if it weren't for that.
there are some benefits to not being rich, but the downsides of being poor kind of eclipse them. - inactive, on 08/29/2008, -0/+4A lot less stress worrying about what you might loss if you hit bottom,
when your already sitting there.
Do you think the Indian's had nothing or Freedom ? - gorospe, on 08/29/2008, -0/+4ON THE DOWNSIDE: YOU'RE STILL POOR!
- failedpimp, on 08/29/2008, -0/+4Being poor mean you can ***** all you want and not care.
- Obelia, on 08/30/2008, -1/+4What about the real advantages to being poor, like having to walk everywhere because you can't afford to drive (and therefore possibly being fitter), or not having a house full of possessions that you have to look after? Not that that would outweigh the disadvantages, though.
This doesn't just smack of something written by a rich person, it seems to be written by a rich person who has never even spoken to anyone poor. - inactive, on 08/29/2008, -1/+4I pee on this list.
- mstachiw, on 08/30/2008, -2/+5I can't wait for the next in this series: The advantages of being terminally ill

- BaseballGuyCAA, on 08/30/2008, -0/+1I didn't grow up in a "poor" family, per se, but (especially after my parents divorced) we were FAR from rich. And I'm glad for that. It makes you want to succeed that much more--and, when you do achieve success, you don't live in fear of losing it, because you know that being poor isn't the end of the world.
Trust-fund babies almost never amount to anything, because they have no drive to succeed, no hunger. The same can't be said for those who have known poverty. - username7410, on 08/30/2008, -2/+3This article is;
TOTAL. *****. GARBAGE.
Patronizing *****. - StigNordas, on 08/29/2008, -3/+3There's an American myth that anyone can achieve a 'rags to riches' story themselves. It keeps a good majority of people docile and in fear of disrupting the status quo.
- stonebear, on 08/29/2008, -3/+3Blessed are the poor in spirit, for the kingdom of heaven is theirs.
- dshPls, on 08/29/2008, -2/+2People are doing it every day, good thing you've decided to stop trying, less competition to the top makes it easier for those who believe in themselves.
