"Interestingly, Adelson's fortune has increased enormously not so much because of his faith in Vegas, but because of his early investment in Macau, according to Forbes." - electrichead, on 10/12/2007, -3/+37You can go straight from 1 to 3
- tainedhero, on 10/12/2007, -8/+41Nothing like making 23 million dollars a day, thanks to the suffering of others.
Yay Capatalism! - TheLlamaIs, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27Unlike Gates however this fruit doesn't share the wealth. Who NEEDS that much money? He's probably wiping his ass with fifties. Here's an idea, DONATE.
- habitat2050, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22that south park reference will go down in history as the best business plan ever
- igotdugout, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21Didn't Gates invest 33 Billion dollars into the cancer research? Where he spent a LARGE portion of his fortunes.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18Microsoft Windows.... Gambling.....
Why is all the money in the world to be made from exploiting people's ignorance? - TheThirdWheel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10You really think The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is some investment plan to make money? The Gate's have so much money that their great-great-grandchildren will make Paris Hilton look like a Pauper. But still, Melinda dedicates a large portion of her life running one of the most successful charities the world has ever seen. They not only save countless lives, but make peoples lives better on a daily basis.
They don't just dump money in the hands of foreign governments, and greedy pharmaceutical companies. They demand low prices for vaccines, and monitor each of their operations to ensure they are getting the maximum benefit from their donations.
Warren buffett's multi-billion dollar donation to the foundation will result in less than one percent of a tax benefit to himself.
Meh...I'll calm down. - MackPrime, on 10/12/2007, -7/+16communist.
- Agret, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Maybe you don't quite understand just how rich he is *puts on monocile*
- Derrekito, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I can't believe that at a constant rate of just over $23 million/day it would take until 2012 to match Bill Gates!
- robbiedo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+102) pay off politicians
- shirosamurai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Love him or hate him, Bill Gates has done some pretty amazing things with all the money he's amassed. I'm going to go out on a limb and say the same thing probably cant be said about the man in this article.
- beelz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sheldon_Adelson
- swankboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6NanoStuff, you're a moron. The economy isn't a zero sum game - especially as global as it is these days. Rich people don't put billions in the bank. The REINVEST it to make them even more money. Those investments are in other companies, and more of their own ventures/companies. PEOPLE work for those other companies. People work for this guy directly. He buys things with his money. Things that are created by WORKERS. Other workers maintain and sell him stuff making their money from him. OTHER PEOPLE are profiting from his success. But you're too jaded, ignorant, and petty to realize that. Grow up.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10yeah voluntary suffering. no one is forcing anyone to give him money... they are choosing to do so.
Yay Capatalism! - RyanJohnston, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Quit crying. The rich shouldn't have to give up their riches just because you don't like it.
It is called freedom, and you have no right to take it from anyone. - sinembarg0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Lightyear is a measure of distance, not time. It takes light 6 years to go 6 lightyears. So maybe you meant the time it would take to ravel 6 lightyears at the speed of one mile per hour, which is 4017600000 years.
- t3hX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Because people ARE ignorant?
- math20, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6The suffering of others? What is the matter with people making individual financial choices or, that's right, you know how to best use every ones money don't you?
Yet another elitist who feels it is their duty to spend other peoples money on social programs. - Cruelapollo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"Gates and Buffet are doing great things for this world with his money. Unfortunately, this person is not. Even if he does donate, whats teh point? He took that money from people in the first place."
I suppose Gates just used a laser printer to obtain his wealth?
Charging $200+ for a copy of Windows has nothing to do with it?
Point is, how else do you obtain money other than taking it from other people? - ziki, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5well considering many people make a living off gambling, I don't see him doing anything wrong. You could view it as him giving people jobs/income. Vegas isn't just for the addicts, it's a resort.
- tainedhero, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10I do declare my good sir.
You outrage has show me the error of my ways! Now you and all of your grammar Nazi friends have a victory. Oh and because my spelling apparently puts you in excruciating pain.
ur a dumasss. - ziki, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3yeah but he also made his fortune by finding flaws in the laws.
- Dabellah, on 10/12/2007, -8/+11Communist nothing, the rich get rich and the poor get poorer in this society. I'm stuck right in the middle myself. Capitalism is a great concept till the giants get too big to handle as they so often do anymore.
- RyanJohnston, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That is less than eight and a half billion dollars a year. Gates still has 30 billion more than this guy. It is going to take a few years.
- G-RaZoR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What other job can you make $$ without taking it from someone else?
If you are the burger flipper at McDonalds, then you make your money by making others fat :)
Every job is like it. - stonebear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2“There’s a sucker born every minute.”

I don't buy the rich get rich/poor get poorer thing. Glance at the Wiki article and it mentiones that this character started out in life hawking papers on a street corner. Your success/financial return is directly proportional to your perserverence and enginuity (sp? I'm tired). I heard a philipino dude speak this last weekend who came over to the US as a young man with near nothing. Met his wife at a YMCA. Still doesn't speak english particularly well (at 60 some). This guy started a business and has many millions of dollars at this point despite those short comings. Perhaps there was some good luck involved. Some likewise experience bad luck, but nothing is insurmountable. People like you (from the way it sounds) don't believe that and become content with their place in life... This is your shortcoming, not the systems. - sinembarg0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If I had that much money, I would donate a hell of a lot of it. Who the hell can spend that much money? I would get like 20 houses, and all the stuff I want day to day, and I'd still have way too much.
- 15charmaxwtf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Capitalism makes everyone get richer, things like minimum wage laws and business regulations puts people in to a poverty trap. Minimum wage slows down the creation of jobs and regulations mean its more difficult for poor people to start businesses.
- cellis, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3My favorite is Calvin Ayre. Yeah, he's only worth 1.1 or so (you won't find him on the F400, rather the Worlds Billionaires list ) but waaaay cooler than any of the other billionaires, with the exception of maybe Donald Trump.
And he made his fortune in internet gambling. - tainedhero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hey dumbass. Its called Sarcasm.
- illegalchuck, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3$1/hr? I think it would take 6 light years at that rate.
- ThinkBox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1What day is it, sir? Why its Christmas Day!
- tomacworld, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I like the coments below that article (on that website): " ...How can one man be worth $20 billion dollars when millions of children on this planet go to bed starving every night ? Are people in this country so zombified and bought out & corrupted by mass consumerism that this does not shock us ? Is this really what we want, folks, as the glory of America, and the victory of Capitalism ... "
- usherzx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1why have we never heard of this guy until now?
so he opened a casino and he's rich, thats all ? - borninda818, on 10/12/2007, -8/+6http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kirk_Kerkorian
The 4th richest in America. Also made his fortune through Vegas. And GM but thats different. - chubbymidget, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1"$23.6 million a day — just under $1 an hour" and it still takes 6 years to catch Gates.
Man Windows is overpriced. - rkettner, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Are we talking about this guy, or Billy Gates? I'm sure both have caused a great deal of suffering. aha.
- titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Sheldon Adelson, Jay Adelson? Relation?
- foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -8/+5Gates and Buffet are doing great things for this world with his money. Unfortunately, this person is not. Even if he does donate, whats teh point? He took that money from people in the first place.
- manicdvln, on 10/12/2007, -8/+4"Gates and Buffet are doing great things for this world with his money. Unfortunately, this person is not. Even if he does donate, whats teh point? He took that money from people in the first place."
HAHAHAHAH....You really think so do you? Rich people don't donate, they invest. Guess why Billy invests so much in India. - Derrekito, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3Bill Gates ripped me off with a non working product! He's no angel either!
- habitat2050, on 10/12/2007, -10/+4***** that guy
- r2builder, on 10/12/2007, -11/+3I wonder if he's any relation to Jay Adelson?
- sabster, on 10/12/2007, -13/+5who needs that much money? i'd rather have that much money then have nothing and be on the streets. and how can you judge.. you dont know what he does with it.
- NanoStuff, on 10/12/2007, -17/+5I really don't think people should be able to get THAT rich. 100M and figure out what to do with the rest. 9 Billion dollars out of the economy just sitting there in his bank account rotting away. If most of that went to charity after his death, great, but you just know some relatives and friends are gonna leech off of that for the rest of eternity.
- elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -21/+4Nothing like spelling things wrong every day.
It results in the suffering of others, too
Yay spehlng!
