    I agree that we should make money off of AIG. I don't agree that the government can successfully control fannie and freddie, to the tune of a profit. I don't even WANT my government controlling those entities...

    "The Treasury and the Federal Reserve get to cheat." So, in other words, we're playing a game for money and everyone starts cheating. It totally screws up the game so that it's unplayable. But,Wait! The Fed has found the ultimate cheat codes!

    Invincible code: INFLATION
    Health restore code: BUYOUT
    The game is still unplayable but, yea! The Fed wins.

    It's FOOLISH to think that the taxpayers are going to get anything out of this.

    The system needs to change and this is not the handling. I am not sure how to do it or what the solution is but inflating the dollar is not right. I see a very long economic downturn ahead for the US and because of this its closest financial allies like the UK...

    The purchase of toxic mortgage debt by the government could make lots of money if we were to buy the debt at its current market price. But Paulson and Bernanke are saying that we need to buy this crap at its "hold to maturity price". That means buying it at its face value.

    We have an opportunity to buy these CMOs for 25 cents or fifty cents on the dollar. Then we probably could make money. But if we pay the whole dollar we will definitely lose money.

    Please don't believe the WSJ on this issue. They are very much and interested party (as are Paulson and Bernanke)
