- somedudemanguy, on 10/16/2008, -6/+80Am I the only one who thinks it's ridiculous to call a car a 2010 model when it was built in 2008?
- mastercheif, on 10/17/2008, -10/+60Good Lord, they managed to make it uglier.
- Homerr, on 10/17/2008, -5/+36Still same mpg? The car sells because of it's mpg, why didn't they improve this instead of making it look the same?
- J3553, on 10/17/2008, -9/+38looks like a possum ***** a dust buster.
- ironeus, on 10/16/2008, -1/+21that's called corporate red-tape.
- revjustin2, on 10/17/2008, -1/+17Looks different to me. At least just as much as any other car model does year to year. Car manufactures always choose to go the conservative route. They are sacred that too much change will equal a decline in demand/sales. They may be right.
- liquisoft, on 10/17/2008, -0/+11It's not the same, it's "more aggressive."
What this means, in lay terms, is that they slanted the headlights a bit and extended the hood slightly. The rest is pretty much the same. - JHW539, on 10/17/2008, -1/+11Who cares what it looks like - people buy it for the fuel economy first and usefulness (hatchback, seats 5) second. The pictures are not very interesting at all, the big question is where its mpg comes in and, to a lessor extent, the acceleration numbers (both are expected to be significant improvements over the waiting-list-since-introduction current model).
- crazzy88ss, on 10/17/2008, -1/+10You could also say the new Honda Insight looks like the old Prius, too.
- doublefelix, on 10/17/2008, -3/+11Toyota is misguided if they believe people were lining up for its looks.
- lpmiller, on 10/17/2008, -0/+8Why do people expect radical design changes from Toyota? Look at any model line, they aren't known with screwing with a good thing all that much.
- peestandingup, on 10/17/2008, -0/+6Right. How safe are those again??
- vikingboy, on 10/17/2008, -0/+5something like this?
http://www.treehugger.com/green-car.2314jpg.jpg - scottc, on 10/17/2008, -2/+7I know that Diggers hate the look of the Prius, but it really is a big selling point for the car. Given that you can't save much money with the increased gas mileage (because of the extra upfront expense of buying a hybrid), the buyers are instead making a statement - they want people to know they care about the environment even if it doesn't save them money. The Prius gets attention on the road, unlike a Honda or a Ford Escape which look like any other car. That's why Prius has almost 80% of the hybrid market.
- LaughingMan11, on 10/17/2008, -0/+5No one has leaked any details of the MPG yet. We'll all find out in January.
- mfontain, on 10/17/2008, -3/+7For all the people who hate the cars appearance, you need to realize that the shape of the car is a matter of functionality, not aesthetics. Due to the immutable laws of physics, this weird egg shape is the most aerodynamic, and hence gets the best fuel efficiency. For those who noticed that the new Honda Insight looks VERY similar, it's because they happen to be using the same laws of physics...... If appearance matters to you more, then by all means buy a different car, but it's ridiculous that people keep complaining that they want a more stylish looking efficient car. It's like complaining that round wheels look stupid and wondering why car manufacturers don't use cooler looking square wheels. Sometimes, form must by necessity follow function.
- xutopia, on 10/17/2008, -0/+4There are two ways you could brag about your awesome mileage.
Be an ass and sound patronizing by assuming everyone should drive a motorcycle because you do. Or tell people about another option to save money on gas by explaining the virtues of motorcycle riding.
I love two wheeling but your comment just irks me. I use my car most of the time because I need to carry stuff and people around. A 2 wheeler just won't cut it for 90% of what I do. - mywhitenoise, on 10/17/2008, -4/+8It pisses me off that not much has changed. It's time to make this a plug-in. ***** making it bigger at the cost of getting better fuel efficiency. Backwards thinking on their part.
- boardthis, on 10/17/2008, -0/+4no way i could have sex in that car.
- discofreak, on 10/18/2008, -0/+4You obviously don't understand how the auto industry works.
- UbIwerks, on 10/17/2008, -0/+4Darn those sacred executives!
- SRSco, on 10/17/2008, -0/+4Nobody here is talking about buying it.
- mywhitenoise, on 10/17/2008, -1/+4and I can still run you over in my Prius, so who has the advantage?
- deaftly, on 10/17/2008, -3/+6I think it looks pretty nice, whats the big deal.
- diggB, on 10/17/2008, -0/+3This may also explains why the GM Volt also looks simliar. You have an aerodynamic shape designed with space and safety requirements and viola! A Prius like shape.
- xxMaxaroni, on 10/17/2008, -0/+3What pisses me off about a lot of new cars lately, including this one, is that the manufacturers are putting the speedometer in the middle of the dash, so you have to look away from the road just to see how fast you're going.
- OpaqueMurdock, on 10/17/2008, -0/+3Is that $4k a do it your self kit?
- Kardde, on 10/17/2008, -0/+2I have an '08 Prius that I could have converted to a plug-in for ~$4k. But I live in a city, and I park in the garage of my apartment building. In other words, I don't have a place where I could plug the thing in. I suspect most people that live in cities and own a Prius, where the car really shines, are in a similar situation.
- inactive, on 10/17/2008, -2/+4Is it really hard to make a decent looking green car?
- atact88, on 10/17/2008, -0/+2It's still ugly as all hell, but can you blame them? They're the only auto manufacturer making a profit in America. And they have the Prius to thank for that. It's a good formula right now, whether by looks or not. They're not going to jeopardize that by radically redesigning the Prius.
- somepuertorican, on 10/18/2008, -0/+2So does owning a 2010 Prius still make you an *****?
- GoatMonkey2112, on 10/17/2008, -0/+2Due to be unveiled in January 2009. It's pretty much standard now that the model year is always next year now. Which will be 2010 in 2009.
- protodon, on 10/17/2008, -1/+3So where's the plug?
- Endit, on 10/18/2008, -0/+2So you'll take a Mary Kay purple car?
- inactive, on 10/17/2008, -1/+3Depends on rider, and armor, and if you're willing to shell out $500 for an airbag jacket...
I wear a full-face helmet, and thick gear. I haven't gone out and bought an airbag jacket yet, though it's nice to finally see them available in the US. They used to be available only in Japan.
I've only been in one accident, got flipped end-over-end by a pothole on the I-5. I prettymuch just slid down the pavement onto the shoulder of the freeway. Only real injuries were from having all the fingers on my left hand bent backwards on impact, a bruise from landing on my wallet, and some road rash on my back, where my jacket slid up and exposed some skin when I was sliding. - aircool, on 10/23/2008, -0/+1And that is a nice car.
- mfontain, on 10/18/2008, -0/+1The Prius is hardly huge, but it's not tiny because it addition to being efficient, it needs to be useful. In other words, roomy enough for both passengers and cargo. As far as being boxy, I'm not really sure what you mean. The prius is the most aerodynamically efficient mass produced car currently available with a drag coefficient (cD) of 0.26, beaten only by the Honda Insight, which is no longer available.
- MindStalker, on 10/18/2008, -0/+1No its pretty standard for the model year to be 6 months into the new year. Something unveiled Summer of 2008 will be 2009. But January? They pushed it as far as they can go, when are they going to start going 2 years into the future? Pathedic
- turbomofo, on 10/18/2008, -0/+1What a lame article...who gives a *****?!
- hangtown2004, on 10/17/2008, -0/+1Still looks like a cheese wedge to me, Not bad looking for a cheese wedge but still a chese wedge.
- publiclurker, on 10/18/2008, -0/+1I think they only do pink, but it's been years since my mom was into selling anything like that.
http://www.pinkcaddiecoach.com/AboutSean.htm - gotamd, on 10/18/2008, -0/+1It looks even worse than the current model. Toyota has some good looking cars, too, so it's hard to understand why they're having such a hard time making the flagship hybrid look half decent.
- inactive, on 10/17/2008, -0/+1Looks like they 'Pontiac'-ed it
- Philbert, on 10/17/2008, -1/+2I am. Well that and the MPG.
- GordonFree, on 10/17/2008, -1/+2Is anyone surprised?? People need to wake up. We are being controlled in a world where new Prius look like the old one, and no one is fighting for our country. We are letting ourselves go. This is really really scary
- GoatMonkey2112, on 10/17/2008, -0/+1Here you go, this car is green...
http://www.bergoiata.org/fe/voiture-sport-90/cars_ ... - doublefelix, on 10/17/2008, -0/+1The interiors are cool, I'll give you that.
- dsmx, on 10/17/2008, -0/+1They do it's called a VW lupo diesel.
- opticwind, on 10/17/2008, -1/+2I maintain people buy it because they believe it's going to save them money. Whether or not that's true is irrelevant.
- legendxx, on 10/17/2008, -0/+1Why doesn't the right headlight have the same flare as the left one? In the first photo, you can see how far back the headlight goes.. the second picture shows a very different headlight on the opposite side.
