- junkneo, on 09/03/2009, -3/+66Still ignoring Toyota and Honda as part of US Auto Industry, the trend continues.
- Barackalypse, on 09/03/2009, -2/+43The current ownership part is pretty humorous, what with the Queen being listed and all. At least Ford is still 100% owned by Ford shareholders.
- austin63, on 09/03/2009, -4/+26Japanese companies that make their cars here. Thus the "US Auto Industry".
- FXNGLAS, on 09/03/2009, -3/+18Tim, you're a ***** idiot. Toyota and Honda have US auto plants that employ US workers that US citizens purchase and drive.
Go troll somewhere else. - MrScotchBoy, on 09/03/2009, -1/+14It will be interesting to see how the supposedly leaner and meaner Big 3 compete with the up and coming domestic brands over the next decade.
- 2Six119, on 09/10/2009, -0/+12Hummers are Chinese now? o.O
- paulEdangerous, on 09/03/2009, -0/+11The Queen bit being the Government of Canada. Which Queen Elizabeth is the head of state. I guess they wanted to be official instead of just saying Canada and Ontario.
- Kate1240, on 09/03/2009, -0/+10Honda, Nissan, and Toyota employ a great number of Americans and have plants in America (Ohio, Texas, TN). If you don't believe me research this.
Even BMW's are produced in SC. Not all models, but many. - tgc1, on 09/03/2009, -0/+10And just about every other foreign auto maker with domestic operations.
- EndouOuto, on 09/03/2009, -3/+13Believe me, they're not afraid of Tesla.
- geoken, on 09/03/2009, -2/+12Isn't every publicly traded company 100% owned by the various shareholders of that company?
- mibi, on 09/03/2009, -2/+12yes can we please bring back the spread sheet and wall of text plz.
- Denominator88, on 09/03/2009, -3/+12I would be...
http://cdn-i.dmdentertainment.com/funpages/cms_con ... - iamnotcreative, on 09/03/2009, -0/+9None of these companies invented the automobile
- wreckemtech, on 09/03/2009, -3/+11junkneo is right. Most of Toyota, Honda, and Nissan passenger vehicles that are sold in the US are made in the US. The main exceptions are semi-trucks and small cars (versa, fit, yaris, scion, prius).
- etx313, on 09/03/2009, -0/+7I should have picked up Ford stock when I was looking at $2/share. :(
- austin63, on 09/03/2009, -3/+10You should consider whether you know anything about a topic before you comment, or at least make it funny.
- freeridstylee, on 09/03/2009, -1/+7GM will put out an IPO within a year so the government will get a lot of it's $$ back, and no longer have an ownership stake. Hence the term loan.
Will the banks pay back the TARP funds? - freeridstylee, on 09/03/2009, -0/+6I did :)
- TnTBass, on 09/03/2009, -0/+6This pretty clearly outlines why I won't be buying Dodge/Chrysler products come October, when I will be purchasing my new vehicle.
However, for the first time in my life I'm actually looking at Fords. I'm still deciding on what I want though. - patrickt11, on 09/03/2009, -4/+10Dugg for "Launch Infographic"
- xevidentx, on 09/03/2009, -0/+6wizardofwor- except for all the money that goes into the workers employed at various factories, and development that goes by american engineers that work for honda/toyota and the surrounding communities
- howdareyou, on 09/03/2009, -0/+5Ford auctioned off Aston Martin back in 2006.
- rocketman42, on 09/03/2009, -0/+5Where's GM's Chinese brands? They are partnerships but still should be on this. China will probably be the largest market in the world within a few years.
- isunktheship, on 09/03/2009, -0/+5http://www.mint.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/0 ...
direct link.. - maestroGSWJ, on 09/03/2009, -0/+5The 0.938 Million number is referring to number of cars sold not profit. The numbers compare correctly across companies...you're just misreading the data.
- inactive, on 09/03/2009, -0/+5cant wait to see a tata motors jaguar.
- mibi, on 09/03/2009, -2/+6uh, you are aware that GM and Chrysler were in the crapper before the government picked them up right?
- ichibanstunna, on 09/03/2009, -0/+4I think a lot of it goes back into the surrounding communities.
http://www.ohio.honda.com/companyinfo/files/EIS_Su ... - brad3378, on 09/04/2009, -0/+4I don't think we should compare a niche company that makes a few thousand $100,000 cars to companies that produce millions of cars for $15 to $25 thousand. Their product lines barely overlap.
- jeremymccurdy, on 09/03/2009, -1/+5I always end up getting my hummers from the Chinese.
- ImTheDuke, on 09/03/2009, -1/+4The UAW still exists so they didn't get "leaner and meaner" enough. As long at that union is running things are down two strikes. Should have let themselves go ***** up. Re organize sans union and they would have had a chance. Whatever happens I don't feel sorry for them. The crap they pawned off on the public back in the 70s/80s was criminal. Would have stayed that way to if not for the japs showing them and the public how to build cars. jmho or course
- Moralogic, on 09/03/2009, -0/+3And they should. The US automakers no only made crappier products, agreed to insane union agreements, and failed horridly at financial management. They also quit looking forward to what technology can do for the past 30+ years. The model T can even get 40 mpg, while the average car in the US only gets 30 mpg.
Instead automakers have resisted the idea of investing in more advance technology, other than frilly stupid features. If they would have quit bitching and went ahead and made cars to the standard California set out for them to back in the Clinton days, they would have survived the whole economic downfall we just had a hell of a lot better. They wouldn't have hybrids, they would have full blown electric cars. That and the US would already have the infrastructure to support electric cars. You can thank Bush for ***** that up too though. - ImTheDuke, on 09/03/2009, -0/+3Imho Dodge/Chrysler have been junk for a long time now. Strictly going for the "cool" atheistic s instead of quality and user friendly practicality. I'm not one of those who blindly follow a car manufacturer like a Mac fanboy or anything. I buy what I think is the best car no matter what the make is. We just got(3 weeks ago) a Ford Edge and I can't believe how nice of a car this thing is. Granted, our company is a Ford licensee so we get a extra 8% off dealer invoice. Honestly though that was not the reason we bought the car we did. It probably would have been a tie breaker but it didn't come down to that. Anyway, don't be afraid to look at Fords. Pick ups are nice and we also looked at the Flex but it was just a bit too big for our needs. Nice vehicle though
- Kate1240, on 09/03/2009, -2/+5I saw a bumper sticker last week that said.. "Don't put my American flag on your foreign car." Such BS.. How ignorant can people be..?
- alpha88, on 09/03/2009, -0/+3Read it again.
- Kate1240, on 09/03/2009, -0/+2interesting question, probably not.
- wrenchone, on 09/03/2009, -0/+2Also left off Ford's stake in Mazda.
- Elranzer, on 09/03/2009, -0/+2That's ok. Toyota and Honda are laughing at the US automakers all the way to the bank.
- i38warhawk, on 09/04/2009, -0/+2Tesla is begging for money just like Detroit, get over it.
- db0255, on 09/03/2009, -0/+2Or a Tata Motors Land Rover.
- Nitrodist88, on 09/04/2009, -0/+2Clearly. Calling government corporations in Canada 'Crown corporations' sounds way better as well. Also, it's not the District Attorney, it's the 'Crown'.
- Moralogic, on 09/03/2009, -0/+2tim proved himself to be stupid. I wonder how much of a Chevy Cobalt her thinks is made in the US, because it definitely isn't 90%, and I doubt it is even 60%.
- Antimatt, on 09/03/2009, -1/+3India's getting revenge for that whole colonization thing.
- mibi, on 09/03/2009, -0/+2I just like saying "tata".
- pathouston22, on 09/03/2009, -1/+3I bought at 4 and sold at 7. They still have deficits on their sheets, while GM and Chysler do not.
Also bought Tata, and am currently sitting on 12% profit. Will sit for the long term. - mikbunn, on 09/04/2009, -0/+2Did you just misspell BMW?
- geoken, on 09/03/2009, -0/+1I really can't think of any definition other than a party who owns 1 or more common stocks in a publicly traded corporation.
- Moralogic, on 09/03/2009, -1/+2Tesla is pretty much focusing on what the consumers want, while the big 3 are only focusing on what they want, which is huge profits and figuring out how to pay for all of the over paid union workers and their insane retirement plan.
Tesla doesn't have the overhead that the big 3 have, they have patents the big 3 will need to use, and they are focusing a lot on what people are asking for. Something the big 3 will never do because they care too much about profits. Not saying Tesla doesn't care about profits, but it isn't overcoming all of their other thoughts at every turn. - djm19, on 09/04/2009, -0/+1I didnt say anything about it being good or bad. All I said was gm was worse off then ford before the government got involved, so the level of government involvement is not the key here.
Both companies did however benefit from government programs like cash for clunkers and loans relating to more efficient car development. -
