1) Having your article take up 13 pages... - inactive, on 05/26/2008, -4/+47Nice article but why divide it up into 10 pages? That's just needless whoring for ad views.
Its not just PC World that do it either. So maybe add that as number 11.
Crapware on new PCs is what I find most annoying though. The restore discs supplied with laptops/pcs don't give you a choice about it either.
. - NathanielJ, on 05/26/2008, -3/+38How is it I've read through a 4 paragraph introduction, and I have NO idea where the hell the list is?
Honestly, learn how to format your articles so that people can find the damn information. - justastatistic, on 05/26/2008, -3/+3712. Posting comments that have already been posted.
- jggube, on 05/26/2008, -2/+30Rebate runarounds are definitely a big annoyance. When comparing prices, I don't factor in the rebates because they make you run through hoops just to get your, like $5 dollar rebate.
- philiras07, on 05/26/2008, -3/+23I am tired of these ***** lists on these ***** different pages!!!
- Lorddias, on 05/26/2008, -2/+19I can't believe a website that loads itself up with trillions of ads per page, as well as makes each "part" different pages so you can click through giving more revenue from adverts recommend Ad Block Plus for Firefox.

Apology-less comment abuse for link to article on one page. - thedzigner, on 05/26/2008, -1/+1711. Over-priced extended guarantees!!
- LoudNoise, on 05/26/2008, -3/+16The irony of this article is immense.
- Rivers, on 05/26/2008, -1/+1313. Posting comments that have already been posted.
- warrenterr, on 05/26/2008, -2/+13Yeah and it's like two ***** paragraphs a page.
- AriaStar, on 05/26/2008, -0/+811.b. Where only about 1/4 of the width is even the article.
- sjbdallas, on 05/26/2008, -2/+8I won't buy anything where they price presented is based on a rebate. A nice big graphic showing a laptop that costs $499 then little tiny letters stating "after $300 mail-in rebate". Forget about it, i'll just wait for the laptop to REALLY be $499 because my bet is the rebate angle is just a way to get a higher price for a few months before they drop it to $499 anyway.
- AudioPhil3, on 05/26/2008, -8/+13http://digg.com/img/c-digg.png
- trogdorBURN, on 05/26/2008, -0/+5it has been said so many times, but i think we all HATE this idiocy in web design...
- inactive, on 05/26/2008, -0/+5real #11: Companies that feel the need to put Top 10 lists on 10 pages to increase ad viewership.
Fix: Stop posting such sites on Digg - fuzzynyanko, on 05/26/2008, -0/+4So far, Newegg and EVGA have been good on rebates. I don't think it took more than a month from either of those

- om3ganet, on 05/26/2008, -0/+4Please, don't link to articles where the content is on more than ONE ***** PAGE when it doesn't need to be. INSTANTLY buried for the typical ad-trash website.
- RaDeN305, on 05/26/2008, -0/+4Print view FTW.

- dtele, on 05/26/2008, -0/+4Its called maximising your hits... web marketers - gotta love em.
- gbrmn, on 05/26/2008, -0/+3I have no idea what these "10 Most Annoying Habits" really are, because of the annoying habit of putting a decent one page article on multiple pages.
This is the web, not a print magazine, and wanting to put up more ad banners doesn't work if no one wants to read the article in the first place. - Chompy, on 05/26/2008, -1/+4Agreed. My time is worth more to me than fighting some recalcitrant company to get them to honor a rebate. If there's a rebate, I'll either go to a competitor or else wait for the price to come down on it's own.
- lukemh, on 05/26/2008, -0/+3This is way more annoying....

pop over div adverts
I know, I know i haven't enabled adblock plus on ff3 rc1 - crownedgriffin, on 05/26/2008, -1/+4Note on the Dell consumer level support thing... If you call really late at night, you'll get directed to the Canadian call center.
- madeingermany, on 05/26/2008, -3/+6Exactly, like "Unrecoverable Music" - why would a company like Amazon figure in an unlimited number of downloads? If you are too stupid to back up your DRM free music, you don't deserve any better.
- kd1s, on 05/26/2008, -0/+3I bought a set of earphones that a month and a half into their life gave up the magic smoke. I called Phillips and they said I needed to send the unit back with receipt. Problem is they were $30 earphones and I couldn't find my receipt.
I googled online receipts and someone was kind enough to setup an app that would generate a receipt that looked like a thermal printed receipt. I even dirtied it up a bit in photoshop.
It worked! - AriaStar, on 05/26/2008, -0/+2Regarding rebates, sometimes, if you talk to a manager and tell him/her that you'll buy the item only if they'll apply the rebate in-store, you'll get the rebate on the spot. But you've really got to be willing to walk off without the item or any other purchases if they say no. They've lost nothing if you buy something else in that visit. Actually, every time I've done this, I got the rebate. But this isn't to say it will always work. Still, it can't hurt to try.
Also, Apple's been known to allow users to re-download if they call and ask really nicely. But this is limited to something like once a year. Of course they wouldn't advertise this as a possibility though because they'd prefer you pay again. - Chompy, on 05/26/2008, -0/+2What, you don't want to expose yourself to more advertising, maybe give Coke / Pepsi / Whoever some demographic information, fill out a survey? You could *totally* win a free Coke worth 60 cents!
- cdigioia, on 05/26/2008, -1/+3I think the rebate angle is more - Only 95% of these rebates will be correctly filled in & paid out. So instead of $300 off, it's more like $15 off on average. And we'll sell quite a few more, so it's a win-win for us.
Or so I've read (and it seems very reasonable) - theadvinci, on 05/26/2008, -0/+2Did this really have to be on 10 different pages? Annoying.
- FortyTwoFinches, on 05/26/2008, -1/+3Let's not forget the consumer (but still tech-related) equivalent of the "Rebate Runaround" -- the Contest Runaround, in which consumer brands ditch instant win games for Online Codes. I don't want to go to the Coke website to input arbitrary digits for crappy prizes. But I'm sure I'd be a millionaire by now if I actually fell for the "please come to our website and waste more time with our insufferable flash animations" tactic.
Internet has ruined the peel off and scratch-n-win games. I'm surprised lottery tickets don't make you enter an online code to see if you've won. Seems like the govt would want to get into such a lucrative and annoying racket. - Kas70, on 05/26/2008, -0/+2I thought the article said it was currently only an option for one model, but Sony was going to make it an option for other models soon. I think that's what I read, but I'm not going to go back into the abyss of that article to make sure...
- cdigioia, on 05/26/2008, -0/+2whoops - I meant to say 95% of these rebates will NOT be correctly filled in & paid out.
Surprised I"m getting dugg up a bit, since my math makes no sense as I phrased it. - stockjones, on 05/26/2008, -0/+2No phone number to call so you can actually speak to a real person. Tech companies still have so much to learn in regards to customer service.
- Oddish, on 05/26/2008, -0/+2Buried for paging.
- Kas70, on 05/26/2008, -0/+2I've also read that companies bet on people not sending the rebates in at all - I think your 95% figure is too high. Some companies even make you wait a certain amount of time before you can send it in thereby narrowing the window and creating an even more likely scenario of people forgetting all about it. I won't do rebates at all anymore unless their instant.
- Kas70, on 05/26/2008, -0/+2The one download only issue is why I still prefer physical CD's (minus DRM of course). I actually own something tangible, can play it anywhere, and I can sell it if I want without owing the artist or company anything - they've already made their cut with my original purchase (first buyers rights).
And can anyone tell me why new computers don't have Microsoft Word installed, but they do have all the junk? When did they decide that Word wasn't as basic as say, Excel? - madeingermany, on 05/26/2008, -0/+1This is completely off-topic.
And stupid: The only way to really check is to have a container you know the size of, fill it and compare that to what the pump says. - mmeiser, on 05/26/2008, -0/+1SINGLE PAGE VERSION resubmitted to digg at:

Digg it to send PCWorld a message!
I pre-apologize for resubmitting, but I thought all the comments here were hilarious. Particularly user cdawzrd's comment:
"11. A "10 most" article that takes up 13 pages"
The irony and hypocrisy is brilliant. - mmeiser, on 05/26/2008, -0/+1I HIGHLY recommend Flashblock for FIrefox as well. Personally I find it even more important then ad block.

- ultrafez, on 05/26/2008, -0/+1You could almost write a regular expression to select these types of stories from Digg that fit this criteria...
- NathanielJ, on 05/26/2008, -0/+1Since when does iTunes allow for one-time redownloading of your music? I've been trying to find a way to redownload a song that magically got lost in a sync a while ago, but to no avail.
