- chrisd3n, on 07/30/2008, -0/+13Right, because the GOP (Grand Old Spending Party) can really run an economy effectively. /sarcasm
"President Bush has presided over the largest overall increase in inflation-adjusted federal spending since Lyndon B. Johnson. Even after excluding spending on defense and homeland security, Bush is still the biggest-spending president in 30 years." - alapoet, on 07/30/2008, -1/+13@atomicbread
"Tell that to the Democrats"?
I guess you mean those same Democrats who BALANCED THE BUDGET during the Clinton administration.
Of course, it took your guy Bush only a few short years to turn that into the biggest deficit in history. - KoolKhemist, on 07/30/2008, -1/+9#2 brings up a good point:
"Wasting money frivolously"
Take for example, Warren Buffet. He still lives in the same house he bought in 1958. Just because you have the money doesn't mean you have to waste it. - curlytree, on 07/30/2008, -1/+6How about expecting to get your money back after lending it to some family member? lots of them conveniently forget to pay you back
- EireItalia, on 07/30/2008, -0/+3Unfortunately, Democrats and Republicans alike are over spenders. Ron Paul is a striking exception, but America was too shortsighted and ignorant to elect him President.
- drex8, on 07/30/2008, -0/+3You know you need a rant like this one to make yourself sound intelligent and getting your message across at the same time. And typing in caps certainly doesn't help.

- elshizzo, on 07/30/2008, -0/+3Wow, you win most insane comment of the day
- inactive, on 07/30/2008, -0/+3I guess you're so poor you had to pawn off your capslock key?
- bradhart2, on 07/30/2008, -0/+3I thought lending it to a family member was how you made them go away. plenty of times I have told them their was interest on my loan and just so I knew I wouldn't have to deal with them for a year or two. money = disappearance act
- theburningsoul, on 07/30/2008, -1/+4Yup excellent points man
- pjpereira, on 07/30/2008, -1/+4i specially endorse number 10.
i have seen what money can do when you put it above all else. - bobsoda, on 07/30/2008, -1/+410. Putting money above family
ditto on this.
a house without family, friends, and loved ones can easily be a "poor" house. - jlhoben, on 07/30/2008, -2/+4#1 Letting the private Federal Reserve print money (and charge interest) for a democratic republic.
- inactive, on 07/30/2008, -1/+3There is no such thing as a no sale call. A sale is made on every call you make. Either you sell the client some stock or he sells you a reason he can't. Either way a sale is made, the only question is who is gonna close? You or him? Now be relentless, that's it, I'm done.
- KoolKhemist, on 07/30/2008, -0/+2well i mean you can do good with lending a family member but the most important thing is to FORMALIZE THE LOAN! do not do any PINKY SWEAR or IOU on a napkin use an outside intermediary to document the transaction! i had one ***** cousin pretend like i never loaned him ANYTHING... he was my blood so i was thinking it would be ok (dude bought a sound system for his car)... but even then i was taken advantage of.
don't even lend if you want that relationship to be different. its similar to starting businesses with friends... formality is gone and things can go wrong
JUST SAY NO. - inactive, on 07/30/2008, -1/+3Democrats tend to take money out of peoples pockets and put it into social programs.. (good)
Republicans tend to take money out of peoples pockets and put it in their own or their friends pockets.. (bad) - seriousguy, on 07/30/2008, -0/+2I've abandoned my child! I've abandoned my child! I've abandoned my boy!
- Rotzooi, on 07/30/2008, -0/+2A message from the beyond, by Tony Snow:
Repeat the GOP talking points, people:
Democrats are socialist tax-and-spend big-government elitist Liberals.
Democrats are socialist tax-and-spend big-government elitist Liberals.
Democrats are socialist tax-and-spend big-government elitist Liberals.
Democrats are socialist tax-and-spend big-government elitist Liberals.
Democrats are socialist tax-and-spend big-government elitist Liberals.
Democrats are socialist tax-and-spend big-government elitist Liberals.
Thank you. This will allow the Republicans to continue for at least another month with our corporate socialism, tax on the middle-class, more and more irresponsible spending, Big Brother eavesdropping and random police violence, fascism on the streets near you and general orgy of blood. - deadlift, on 07/30/2008, -1/+2Alternatively, you could refer them to peer to peer lending sites such as Prosper and Lending Club. Their lending rates are typically lower than bank interest rates as well. Last time I checked it they had fixed rates around 6.58% while banks had upwards of 14-16%.
- lynnae71, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1I did the same thing. Stupid mistake, but at least we learned, right?
- seriousguy, on 07/30/2008, -1/+2Don't pitch the bitch.
- inactive, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1Agreed. A point often overlooked
- malexan, on 07/30/2008, -2/+3If you need to be told that spending money needlessly will make you poor, then I'm thinking you're too far gone for a list like this to be of any use.
- bradhart2, on 07/30/2008, -1/+2That is completely naive. It assumes you are starting with something...
- 1FrugalDad, on 07/30/2008, -2/+3#4. No insurance or the wrong type
Insurance is vastly underrated in terms of financial planning. Until we can all be financially independent, one must insure themselves and their family to fill in the gaps. Glad to see this article included a call for people to secure proper insurance coverage. - deadlift, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1Personally, I'm buying luxury chocolate.
- elshizzo, on 07/30/2008, -1/+2#11, holding dollar bills, because that is a guaranteed losing investment. Get out while it still has "some" value. Buy Gold, Euros, Agriculture, I don't care. Just don't be the one still holding the dollar when it is practically worthless in a couple years.
- deadlift, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1Whitney Houston begs to differ:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytJpZguSy2U - drex8, on 07/30/2008, -1/+2Good old adages and advices probably written up in numerous articles and blogs and newspapers and magazines, but still stands true, strong as ever. Good article, Dugg.
- EireItalia, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1That's awesome. A light bulb goes on for many Americans ...
- piyoz000, on 07/30/2008, -1/+2You will end up in a dump site if you spend more than what you are earning. It is very important to save for the rainy days.
- numberneal, on 07/30/2008, -1/+212. smokin' crack.
- EireItalia, on 07/30/2008, -1/+1You're not joking. Hearing Ron Paul speaking out against the Federal Reserve gives me hope that when it crashes, there will be some sensible people to help build the Republic anew, without our flawed monetary policies.
- BaseballGuyCAA, on 07/30/2008, -1/+1http://consumerist.com/consumer/clips/snl-skit-don ...
- deadlift, on 07/30/2008, -1/+1Most MLMs are scam. There's one I hear preying on recent high school graduates and new college students called Vector Marketing. What they do is charge YOU $300 for "luxury knives" and you have to go sell them to people at their houses. WTF? Knives? You have to pay a company to sell for THEM? They say they pay $18.50 or so an hour but they don't make it clear you have to make a certain number of sales per day to actually get your check (and someone people don't even get paid)... something like working 18 hours a day just to get under their requirements.
But the big ones that can suck a fat one? Quixtar and Amway. Can't believe they are publicly traded. - AussieCynic, on 07/30/2008, -1/+1worthy information.....
- inactive, on 07/31/2008, -2/+1Guess what? There is no "poor house". Run out of money and you are sleeping on the sidewalk. There are literally hundreds of homeless people within a few square blocks of the White House here in DC.
- CFOblog, on 07/30/2008, -1/+0#1 is definitely #1 - no one should ever be spending more than they bring in.
- epb123, on 07/30/2008, -2/+1# 11 DONT BE GREEDY
You always want just that little bit more. Consider the first car you bought... and then you bought one a little bit better, and a little later on a bit better again, and then suddenly youve got yourself a flashy Merc. But do you really need it? Your second car purchase got you around just fine, the Merc is just a really expensive fashion accessory. But alas, unfortunately we are human... - wellnessratings, on 07/30/2008, -1/+0Others mistakes can surely you man!!
- vibeseo, on 07/30/2008, -1/+0We ought to make mistakes, but mistakes in Financial decisions, can land you up no where...!
- wellnessgrades, on 07/30/2008, -1/+0We really need to plan out our finances, so as to not land up to miserable conditions.
- wellnessrfp, on 07/30/2008, -1/+0A true signal for all you financial planners ..!
- atomicbread, on 07/30/2008, -12/+6"1. Spending more than you earn" Tell that to the Democrats.
