- klasifyde, on 09/22/2008, -15/+440please sirs, might I have a lousy $60,000 bailout???? No?? But why? Oh! because all that money has to go to millionaires! I get it now
If you are rich and make a bad choice you still get to keep all of your property and money... oh and those huge bonuses. (at the taxpayers expense) But if you are poor or middle class you can starve when your job goes to India. You can live in a cardboard box under a bridge and you damn well better not bitch about it. Well what the hell are you fools going to do when there are no taxpayers left?
Hopefully you all burn in hell for eternity! - SkinnerBox, on 09/22/2008, -11/+368Looks like some of us have a spine after all. Call your congressman and tell him that these companies don't deserve to have their debts paid any more than we all deserve to have our credit cards paid off.
- wagiboy, on 09/22/2008, -6/+276$700 billion is just in direct taxes. The true cost of the package is much larger, well into trillions. That extra money will come by inflating the dollar, which means you and I pay for it through higher prices.
- bruno1969, on 09/22/2008, -6/+247"I'm Mad as Hell and I'm not gonna take it anymore!" Get outraged! This is giving the Treasury and the Fed unlimited power and a blank check book, while at the same time ending capitalism and and the free markets as we know it.
- btschul, on 09/22/2008, -17/+209I don't have to tell you things are bad. Everybody knows things are bad. It's a depression. Everybody's out of work or scared of losing their job. The dollar buys a nickel's worth, banks are going bust, shopkeepers keep a gun under the counter. Punks are running wild in the street and there's nobody anywhere who seems to know what to do, and there's no end to it. We know the air is unfit to breathe and our food is unfit to eat, and we sit watching our TVs while some local newscaster tells us that today we had fifteen homicides and sixty-three violent crimes, as if that's the way it's supposed to be! We know things are bad - worse than bad, They're crazy! It's like everything everywhere is going crazy, so we don't go out anymore. We sit in the house, and slowly the world we are living in is getting smaller, and all we say is, 'Please, at least leave us alone in our living rooms. Let me have my toaster and my TV and my steel-belted radials and I won't say anything. Just leave us alone!' Well, I'm not gonna leave you alone! I want you to get MAD! I don't want you to protest. I don't want you to riot - I don't want you to write to your congressman because I wouldn't know what to tell you to write. I don't know what to do about the depression and the inflation and the Russians and the crime in the street. All I know is that first you've got to get mad! You've got to say, "I'm a HUMAN BEING, GODDAMNIT! My LIFE has VALUE!!" So, I want you to get up now. I want all of you to get up out of your chairs. I want you to get up right now, and go to the window, open it, and stick your head out and yell: "I'm as mad as hell, and I'm not going to take this anymore!!" I want you to get up right now, sit up, go to your windows, open them and stick your head out and yell - 'I'm as mad as hell and I'm not going to take this anymore!' Things have got to change. But first, you've gotta get mad!... You've got to say, 'I'm as mad as hell, and I'm not going to take this anymore!' Then we'll figure out what to do about the depression and the inflation and the oil crisis. But first get up out of your chairs, open the window, stick your head out, and yell, and say it: I'M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!!!
- dfwrider, on 09/22/2008, -10/+188let's see...the poll options are:
-appropriate (you agree with the number of bailouts)
-not doing enough (we need more bailouts)
-overreacting (we need less bailouts)
does anyone else see how this poll is trying to steer people? the correct answer is "we need less bailouts", and actually we need ZERO bailouts, but the poll disguises the correct answer by calling that option "overreacting"
the idea that the government might be under reacting to a fiscal threat, implies that they aren't concerned. therefore an over reacting government implies a high level of concern. who in their right mind would want a "less concerned government". we want them to be concerned. and if they were, they wouldn't be doing these bailouts, and sticking the american public with the bill.
but because the way the poll is written, that option is actually worded in a way to discourage that choice.
as you can see by viewing the poll results, only 44% of people think that the government is wrong in their decision to bailout all these entities.
we know more people then that think so. but this poll will misrepresent that fact. - NeoConned08, on 09/22/2008, -22/+174Y'all keep voting Republican/Democrat and this is the type of stuff you will continue to get. Both of the 2 major parties are completely corrupt. Obama isn't going to bring change. McCain won't bring change. NEITHER of those idiots knows anything about economics and neither is addressing the root cause of this problem THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM. We have a socialist, centrally planned economy via a central bank that manipulates interest rates. Because of their loose monetary policies they continuously create bubbles in our economy over and over. This isn't just some naturally occurring event, this is the CAUSE of the business cycle.
Then we have a socialist backstopping of entities like FannieMae/Freddie Mac. Basically, if they ever have problems, the government will step in to help.
Then we have socialist regulations like the Community Reinvestment Act that forces financial institutions to give loans to *poor unwed mothers, poor black/white/asian/hispanic people from the inner city, yada yada yada* because it is everyone's *RIGHT* to have a home they really can't afford.
So let's add these up.
A central bank doling out credit on the cheap + a government sponsored entity dealing with homes that is backed by the US Govt + regulation that forces banks to give sub prime borrowers credit = a trainwreck waiting to happen.
This wasn't free market capitalism *at its very worst*. This was straight up socialism showing how central planning leads to the poor getting poorer and the rich politicians (who always have our best interests in mind obviously) and their crooked friends on wall street getting a LOT richer.
Under a free market system these institutions would be going bankrupt and quite possibly someone might be going to prison. However, we haven't been a truly free market capitalist system since the creation of the Federal Reserve in 1913. Ever since we got off the gold standard completely in 1971 this dollar bubble has been building and now it's about to pop. Economic law cannot be repealed and the markets waves are now crashing on the beach of our economy and are going to wash away all the little castles made of sand.
As the dollar tanks prepare to lose your chicken wings, cheap dvd players, and American Idol noobs. - inactive, on 09/22/2008, -5/+104I'M MAD AS HELL AND I'M NOT GONN..oh ***** Heroes comes on tonight!
- TigerStar337, on 09/22/2008, -6/+106This bailout is part of the Shock Doctrine (Naomi Klein). The Bush Administration did the same thing with Iraq, and the Patriot Act. They don't want people to analyze the plan...just write a blank check. Given their past history, the US citizens should not do this. Further, the GWB said the Iraq war would cost $50 billion. It cost much more. It is reasonable to assume this bailout will cost much more than $700 billion.
This bailout is bulls*t crazy. Why do we Americans have to pay for the mistakes of stupid people? The US government should not do this. No way, No how! Let the companies die. "Not bailing out these companies will be bad for our economy short term. Bailing them out will be significantly worse long term." - Ron Paul
Ron Paul on CNN: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qLefrvxbq8
If we chose not to bailout the companies, the economy will be bad for a year. If we bailout the companies, the economy will be bad for many years. Let the companies die and let the free market take care of itself. - Striker101, on 09/22/2008, -14/+108It is long past time everyone withdraw and refuse to pay. Dump the tea-bastards overboard, it is time. here's how:
http://morality101.net - itsmesunny, on 09/22/2008, -15/+106call your senators and representatives this week. starting NOW!
we have a few days to raise hell.
everybody outghtta be "mad as hell and not gonna take this anymore!!!"
THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING - THERE'S GONNA BE MORE - ALOT MORE!
RON PAUL IS MY PRESIDENT - Nnater, on 09/22/2008, -4/+88Seriously. Call your congressman. Tell those thieves they can't inflate our money. And let them know that this takes away THEIR power, and puts it in Paulson and Bernanke's hands.
- OpenRevolt, on 09/22/2008, -9/+88No wonder the Army is patrolling the US starting Oct 1st.
Between this and the joke of a Presidential [s]election, we are really accelerating the clock towards Civil War 2 - kronzdigg, on 09/22/2008, -16/+84We NEED OUT OF THE TWO PARTY SYSTEM. MCBAMA is not going to help us. People like RP are the solution.

- voicce, on 09/22/2008, -1/+65Don't just fume, call your congressman and state senators. Demand they block this robbery. Our standard of living is going down daily,
the dollar is losing its value, we cannot take more debt, this country is rapidly becoming impoverished. - whahaa, on 09/22/2008, -1/+62headline inaccurate, should read
"Taxpayers Mad As Hell, Bending Over Anyway." - honesttussey, on 09/22/2008, -3/+62Nope taxpayers are not mad as hell. Yes they will take it some more. Too busy watching premiere of Dancing Stars tonight. Now go back to sleep. Everything is ok.
- DD2CC2U, on 09/22/2008, -8/+65NYT: McCain chief of staff/lobbyist was paid $2m by Fannie and Freddie for access to McCain and to stop regulation of banking industry
McCain and staff admit outright that earlier this decade they were paid $2m to the man who is now John McCain's campaign manager in order to buy influence with John McCain as Senator and as possible president (they also paid him to derail legislation that would have increased federal regulation of the banking industry). There should be a campaign to demand that McCain's campaign manager, Rick Davis, give ever penny back to the American people. There had better be an ad about this out by COB Monday, and calls for Davis' resignation.

- budvb, on 09/22/2008, -2/+52If they approve this I am going to go blow up all my loans and Credit cards and tell them when they call for there money, is to go beg Washington D.C. for a Tax Payer bailout! This makes me Mad as hell, and We are not going to take it anymore!
- gottobekind, on 09/22/2008, -2/+49i agree; no more bailouts. no more bandaids. no more printing money out of thin air. no more inflation. no more rape of the dollar... i could go on forever, but you get the point.
- frostbyt, on 09/22/2008, -3/+48Dear gov
If your going to screw the US citizens at least give us something for it. Like a flat tax and every other Friday off.
Thanks
Everyone - LibertyFox, on 09/22/2008, -4/+46The government is buying up everything, even the shirt on your back! They will own everything and you will own NOTHING! Right now, if you do not pay the taxes on "YOUR HOUSE" the REAL OWNER (WILL) show up.
- inactive, on 09/22/2008, -4/+43Welcome to fascism folks...
- RogerStrong, on 09/22/2008, -1/+39Just to add to the paranoia:
If there's one accomplishment of the Iraq war, it's to teach the US army how to fight an insurgency - how to fight people who oppose a government and who are even better armed than Americans.
Once the US "brings home the troops", it's nice to know they'll be able to put those skills to work. - syndustry, on 09/22/2008, -6/+42Civil War 2 is already underway. The wealthy have been attacking the middle class and below for at least 20 years. They haven't resorted to physical violence because they know they'd lose through our sheer numbers alone. Instead they've manipulated us. They've been trying to make us docile and ignorant while they rape us of our labor and resources. Through design they make employment and debt forms of modified slavery, they weaken our constitution. Through incorporation they overpower small business owners, adding to apathy. Through influence they make their opponents criminals.
What kind of government houses merely 5% of the worlds population overall, yet simultaneously imprisons 25% of it's prisoners? What kind of government would allow a business to exist as a separate entity from that of it's owners? What kind of government would simultaneously espouse capitalism while bailing out private companies? - TeCuervo, on 09/22/2008, -2/+36I'm envious of you. My President is an idiot.
- inactive, on 09/22/2008, -2/+36Some people believe that kicking the problem down the road means they solved the problem. Candidates who are currently in Congress should not be considered for a vote. I know that my "representatives" in Congress are trying to convince voters in this district that they are doing a good job. My most recent op-ed dispels that myth.
- basye, on 09/22/2008, -0/+34It's not from thin air: it's out of mine, our kids and grandkids' pockets!!
- EntropyFan, on 09/22/2008, -2/+35>>because all that money has to go to millionaires
What you don't seem to understand is those millionaires walked off with all the ***** money already.
They had 6 figure salaries, and parachute packages guaranteeing millions more when they are replaced, for whatever reason. They didn't make bad choices. It got them rich and out of the way, right?
The only people who would be hurt by not doing the bailout is us, the average Joe with our retirement flushed away and the Next Great Depression, with 25%+ unemployment and a crashing US GDP.
I too hope the bastards responsible burn in hell, but burning down the rest of the US economy in some vain attempt to get them isn't going to help - inactive, on 09/22/2008, -1/+34Running out of Time and Money.........I'm MAD as Hell.
- xxxkrogoth, on 09/22/2008, -0/+31Awesome. You said it perfectly. The Fed Reserve is the CORE PROBLEM of all of this. Doing this bailout with NO CONGRESSIONAL APPROVAL WHATSOEVER. This crook Henry Paulson, the first player. He joined Goldman Sachs in 1974, working in the firms Chicago office. He became a partner in 1982. From 1983 until 1988, Paulson led the Investment Banking group for the Midwest Region, and became managing partner of the Chicago office in 1988. From 1990 to November 1994, he was co-head of Investment Banking, then, Chief Operating Officer from December 1994 to June 1998 . His compensation package, according to reports, was US$37 million in 2005, and US$16.4 million projected for 2006. His net worth has been estimated at over US$700 million.
HE HAD 500 MILLION UNTAXED when he stepped down from his CEO position and was appointed to Sectary of the treasury. HE IS PROTECTION HIS OLD COMPANY with YOUR TAX DOLLARS!
My picture is Nixon to remind everyone who eventually KILLED OFF the gold standard forever. REMEMBER, the FEDERAL RESERVE is a PRIVATE COMPANY with shareholders that are MAJOR BANK PLAYERS ONLY. YOU cannot buy stock in them, see the records they keep, or do anything about them. Calling your state government representatives or anybody in government WILL DO NOTHING. Congress did nothing with this Federal Reserve bailout, and the job of Congress is to hold the purse strings. WTF is going on in this country? - browntiger, on 09/22/2008, -4/+35It was reported that 700 billion will include bailout of car loans and credit card debt. Really WTF!
Now we are bailing out worthless reversed loan SUWs and trucks, that were fraudulently sold 40k and GM guaranteed insane post lease value. Let's not pretend that this move somehow helps avg Americans.
Just call it for what it is: corporate welfare move. - richmomz, on 09/22/2008, -0/+30Quit digging/blogging and CALL YOUR CONGRESSMAN if you want to make a difference. If you do one useful/good thing this month, do this for your future if nothing else.
- richmomz, on 09/22/2008, -0/+29Total cost of this bailout so far (with all the previous ones like Fannie/Freddie, AIG, stimulus package, etc) is already well over 1 trillion dollars and will probably grow to several times that amount by the time this crisis is over. That could translate to a $30,000 burden or more for EVERY American family.
So forget about retiring or saving up for your kids' college tuition folks, the bankers need their bailout! Oh, you don't like that? Well what are you going to do about it? GET OFF YOUR DUFF AND CALL YOUR F-ING CONGRESSMAN!!! - Icyfenix, on 09/22/2008, -2/+28I've never been so dissapointed hell didn't exist
- RegalGSX, on 09/22/2008, -1/+27Pay down your credit cards and mortgages, and from now on don't buy anything short of a house without paying for it cash, even if you have to save for years.
- MrFurious2k, on 09/22/2008, -1/+27The thing is we might be mad, but our attention span lasts about 5 minutes (optimistically). We'll act upset, yell, scream... but the Congress knows we'll forget and go back to watching TV and nothing will change.
- inactive, on 09/22/2008, -9/+34*****. American citizens are big pussies and won't do jack about this. They're too afraid they might get harassed or arrested if they speak their mind on something other than the internet.

They should fail & fail miserably.. The jobs will transfer to companies that didn't ***** people over. IF they don't transfer, they shouldn't be jobs to begin with. Taxpayers aren't responsible for being raped. This is an ass reaming of all ass reamings and then they're making me pay for my own rape kit on top of it.
I say let the ***** bubble burst and dont' make my ***** kids pay for it. - JulioChavez, on 09/22/2008, -8/+32From that armytimes link:

...They may be called upon to help with civil unrest and crowd control or to deal with potentially horrific scenarios such as massive poisoning and chaos in response to a chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear or high-yield explosive, or CBRNE, attack...
...The 1st BCT’s soldiers also will learn how to use “the first ever nonlethal package that the Army has fielded,” 1st BCT commander Col. Roger Cloutier said, referring to crowd and traffic control equipment and nonlethal weapons designed to subdue unruly or dangerous individuals without killing them...
Here comes the final false flag attack. There's still plenty of time to "suspend" the Constitution before January. To all you jackasses who voted Republican so that you can keep your guns.. they're coming to take them from you by force. - Phearce, on 09/22/2008, -0/+24Army patrolling the US? Link?
