- MrScotchBoy, on 05/10/2009, -6/+352Really glad that had a huge opening weekend like this! This means it'll be the start to a stellar series of Star Trek films.
- borez, on 05/11/2009, -7/+268But I thought BitTorrent had all but killed off this industry.
/s - PhoenixTx, on 05/11/2009, -8/+251I saw it today and it was AWESOME!
- burstaneurysm, on 05/11/2009, -5/+236I was never really a Star Trek fan, but I totally enjoyed the movie... I can see how the hardcore Trekkies have problems with it, but they need to relax. I don't feel like this movie bastardized the original franchise, if it's guilty of one thing, it's creating a newer fanbase. What's wrong with that? I'm looking forward to the next entry.
- chris4404, on 05/11/2009, -5/+193Anyone who hasn't seen the movie make some time, it's ***** great.
- cyrusuncc, on 05/11/2009, -9/+179The force was with them!
wait.. - ProjectGSX, on 05/11/2009, -2/+145I saw it twice.
I was never a Star Trek fan. When I was growing up, Star Wars was cool and Star Trek was for geeks. Boy has that changed in the last ten years. Star Wars films have flown into the ***** while Star Trek just put out a masterpiece. - adderx99, on 05/11/2009, -4/+113this movie was actually worth $12, unlike 99% of the crap that comes out of Hollywood.
i hope terminator lives up to the hype too, and this will be a good summer, even after the steaming pile that was wolverine. - MrZaiko, on 05/11/2009, -0/+105Im just happy Kirk got some green women.
- mushtakrakish, on 05/11/2009, -2/+99i like this ship! it's exciting!
- shauntacular, on 05/11/2009, -9/+95This movie was pretty kick-ass and it got that horrible Wolverine movie out of my head. Hopefully Terminator and Transformers do the same.
- jcannonb, on 05/11/2009, -1/+76I'd actually like to see them make a series also with this cast.
- jebus123, on 05/11/2009, -3/+65I liked it too, but I am very scared that the little munchkin we saw with Scotty will turn into a Jar Jar Binks in the next movie.
- Denominator88, on 05/11/2009, -4/+64I liked the part when they were in space.
- Tanktunker, on 05/11/2009, -5/+64It could've made a jillion frogpoopilion dollars if it weren't for pirates.
A lawsuit is in order. - Stevin, on 05/11/2009, -3/+50I usually don't give my opinion of movies on Digg, but this one was well above my expectations! Great film!
- RickyK545, on 05/11/2009, -3/+44I saw Star Trek on Friday night and I absolutely loved it. Now I'm just hoping the success of this film will lead to another TV series and a string of films on par with this one.
- Apocrypha, on 05/11/2009, -4/+4476.5? That's a little disappointing. I thought for sure it would do way better than Wolverine. It was a much better movie after all.
- 2007GT, on 05/11/2009, -5/+42Awesome movie, one of the best I have seen. I was worried there would be too much gratuitous Hollywood sex & action but it wasn't really that bad. I was very impressed by the acting of Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto. These actors are going places... where no actor has gone before!
- zach382, on 05/11/2009, -1/+37They will live long and prosper
- MOJIRA, on 05/11/2009, -0/+33Watch, it will sustain high numbers for weeks because of word of mouth. Wolverine will most definitely not.
- immatellyouwhat, on 05/11/2009, -2/+35Guess you didn't notice the THREE YEARS LATER caption at the Star Fleet scene did ya?
- Firespray1138, on 05/11/2009, -0/+31The redshirt death was ***** hilarious.
- Andrwmorph, on 05/11/2009, -0/+30There is absolutely no way that I could see a TV show being a reality with the star power of the current cast or the amazing effects. They just couldn't afford it. Most of the actors will be more interested in pursuing their movie careers, anyway, imo. I bet they are going to make several new movies then when people get bored with the current reboot they will move on to rebooting the other old franchises with more explosions.
It would be ***** sweet though! - MOJIRA, on 05/11/2009, -0/+30In 20-40 years some new hipster director will come along and remake Star Wars as a trilogy with less filler and more awesome.
- MOJIRA, on 05/11/2009, -0/+29I loved this movie, but I do understand what you're saying. I actually think all of the awesome mystique and scifi was there but was masked by a lot of action.
I mean, they gave us time travel, temporal paradoxes, alternate universes, planetary annihilation, quantum singularities, hiding behind a planet to mask a warp-in, transporting a split second before hitting the surface of Vulcan, transporter failure, transporting on to a ship going warp speed, ejecting a warp core and detonating it to propel them away from a singularity, etc etc etc.
THIS WAS STAR TREK.
I can't wait for the sequel, I'm betting the Cardassians will be main antagonists. - frepnog, on 05/11/2009, -1/+30that green chick was SMOKING hot.
- Brooks007, on 05/11/2009, -0/+26It is hard fro some people to get over the fact that it is Star Trek. My wife did not want to go see it but she did want to see wolverine(she hates when I watch Trek) but after seeing the movie she cant wait to see more Trek stuff.
- Tanktunker, on 05/11/2009, -0/+26Man if there's anything I look for in science fiction movies it's science non-fiction.
- inactive, on 05/11/2009, -0/+25Ah yes, the crucial "No matter how good it is, someone's going to complain" demographic. I have a sneaking suspicious that, in the near infinite number of possible parallel universes where this movie was made differently, there's one constant - you're complaining in every single one of them.
- jayhawk88, on 05/11/2009, -1/+26It'll be inevitable at this point. No one in Hollywood turns down a $75 million opening weekend picture.
- paulvq, on 05/11/2009, -0/+24Movie quality has nothing to do with how much a movie makes. Just look at how crappy Spider-Man 3, Pirates of the Caribbean 2 and 3, and Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull were.
This movie did far better than the studio predicted. It had recognizable, but not bankable, on-the-top-of-their-career stars like Hugh Jackman; wouldn't you expect an X-Men movie with Hugh Jackman to do better than a reboot of a (popular) nerd franchise? - heavystone, on 05/11/2009, -0/+23I haven't heard or read of a single hardcore Star Trek fan that didn't love this movie. I am a hardcore fan, and I loved the hell out of it!
- offrdbandit, on 05/11/2009, -0/+23Retarded movies lower ticket sales.
- DarkBlueAnt, on 05/11/2009, -1/+23Me too, but if they make a show I hope that it isn't all fighting and drama. I mean... that stuff is needed for a movie because people who don't know the series are going to go watch it too, but Star Trek is really about exploration and going to new planets where no man has gone before. I hope it keeps the Star Trek vibe and doesn't go the sure-fire-hit route by selling out to become a Battlestar Galatica knockoff.
- DrunkRobot, on 05/11/2009, -5/+26Did Rick Berman kill himself yet?
- aphorizm, on 05/11/2009, -3/+24Did anybody not enjoy it? I loved the visual style and the pacing. But I can't help feeling it's a little bit high on flash and low on the larger concepts that made Star Trek different from other sci fi. The music, along with the personal revenge saga/fulfilling your destiny type story meant at times it felt alot more Star Wars than Star Trek.
- pantsperch, on 05/11/2009, -0/+20Karl Urban ***** OWNED.
- wedges, on 05/11/2009, -1/+20i have never been a star trek fan (movies or any of the series) but this movie was just awesome. a lot of fun, great acting, a complex-but-not-convoluted story, fantastic locales, and really creative art direction and effects. A+
- Maria0305, on 05/11/2009, -1/+20The movie was excellent, I was super happy.
I thought Chris Pine was excellent as Kirk and just in general. I'd only seen him for a split second in that horrendous Lindsay Lohan movie and was doubtful. After seeing this, I'm pretty excited that he's being considered for Green Lantern - I think he'd do really, really well. - MrZaiko, on 05/11/2009, -1/+20Thats exactly why they created a new parallel Universe by getting the old spock in a black hole, So the Star Trek history could be Re-written, but still keep the characters they way they are.
That is just brilliant...
and you old school Trekkies cant mess with it because your beloved movies are still intact in the original universe
Quantum physics FTW - viserov, on 05/11/2009, -0/+18Get down from there!
- tinkafoo, on 05/11/2009, -0/+18The red-shirt should have been called "Ensign Berman".
- SteveIsTheDude, on 05/11/2009, -0/+18Did you see Leonard Nimoy on SNL? He said that for a hard core fan to reject the film would.... Then Seth Myers interupts him and says, "I know what your going to say! Your going to say it would be highly illogical!" and Nimoy says, No, I was going to say that it would make them *****.
- Alias1431, on 05/11/2009, -2/+20Rawrr, I'm a mean looking bad guy and I've got tribal tattoos all over my body so you know I'm evil!
Other than that, I liked it. - MrSmileGuy, on 05/10/2009, -5/+22Amped to see this in imax!
- bstock, on 05/11/2009, -0/+16Then don't read them... he gave a warning.
- ren1999, on 05/11/2009, -1/+17If any of you downloaded the movie and thought it was good, please see it on the big screen. Your money is a vote for the next Star Trek film. Ah, but you knew that.
- Tyr86, on 05/11/2009, -1/+17Because it's the same thing with superhero movies and the Lord of the Rings and if they ever made a War40K movie: The fanboys want it to be so akin to the fluff/books/comics that if the average family on the street wants to go see it, they have to read quite a bit of background/fluff to even understand what's going on. And even then, they would complain that it wasn't long enough and not in depth enough and not authentic enough. They won't be happy until they get a 12 hour long epic movie of super long speeches and battles, and even then, they wouldn't be happy because the armor was red instead of blue.
- SirFoxx, on 05/11/2009, -0/+16You can't be calling Mission to Mars good Sci-Fi, can you? Really?
