Up Next : Biden is new Democratic VP! - speedygonzalez, on 09/10/2008, -3/+69anyone else think this was about a six year old kid, their story, and somehow that story causing the stock to die?
- EmberToInferno, on 09/10/2008, -0/+60Ieee!!! Shoulda' bought shares at $3!!
- socialpyramid, on 09/09/2008, -0/+42as do diggers
- sindex, on 09/10/2008, -0/+34Too bad I didn't buy 10,000 shares at $3 on Monday. Hopefully this EuroDisney stock will work out though!
- mentol, on 09/09/2008, -0/+33the stock market reacts very quick on headlines these days, so it doesn't surprise me :)
- madrid, on 09/10/2008, -1/+18Act Now! Think Later!
- hblask, on 09/10/2008, -1/+14I hope this story shows up in six years as if it were a new story.
- KyleDantarin, on 09/10/2008, -1/+13As they should- the article quite rightly points out that any decent trading floor would react the same way, wouldn't you have? I just envy whoever saw through it and bought at $3 a share before it recovered.
- Jigsta, on 10/15/2008, -1/+12Short stock + Create fake blog post banruptcy + Submit to Digg = ....PROFIT!!!
- anagoge, on 09/10/2008, -0/+10http://finance.yahoo.com/echarts?s=UAUA#chart1:sym ...
You can see the huge drop in price here. - pstroll, on 09/10/2008, -0/+8People with stop loss triggers got murdered. Class action attorneys are licking their chops.
- pintomp3, on 09/10/2008, -2/+9isn't speculation wonderful?
- Cozmcphish, on 09/10/2008, -1/+8"Panic ensued, as they say, and United Airlines stock price plummeted 75 percent (down from $12.30 to $3 a share) before someone realized it was an old news story and things righted themselves. The stock rebounded to $10.92 a share by Monday's closing"
Damn, this makes me wish I would've bought a thousand shares of United Airlines stock at $3 a pop. - blatantninja, on 09/10/2008, -0/+7Couldn't happened to a crappier company.
- Enron, on 09/10/2008, -0/+5It's a good thing investors don't use digg. There are a lot of old news stories making it to the front page.
- cawpin, on 09/10/2008, -2/+7Speaking of old stories. Stop posting the same ***** thing over and over.
http://digg.com/business_finance/Airlines_Stock_Wi ... - boneit, on 09/10/2008, -0/+5It would be interesting to see who bought large amounts of this stock when it hit the bottom. I hope there's at least a small investigation to see whether this was as described, and not part of a scam technique to cause the panic and make a huge profit.
- Braxo, on 09/10/2008, -0/+4Why stop at a 1000 shares? It was practically free money!
- CoreyHalliwell, on 09/10/2008, -2/+6Anyone else see the irony in this same article being posted twice?
- backslashdigg, on 09/10/2008, -2/+6RTFT "UPDATE Google Placed Wrong Date on Story."
- Tanktunker, on 09/10/2008, -0/+4If you're so much smarter than them why not simply outsmart them and get rich?
I mean, obviously it's that's simple, everybody but you is just a huge idiot. - Unzorn, on 09/10/2008, -0/+3Zoidie wanna buy on margin! Zoidie wanna buy on margin!
- haikuFU, on 09/10/2008, -0/+3I've noticed many news sites lately that have stopped dating their stories. I guess something like this was bound to happen sooner or later.
- Lleu, on 09/11/2008, -0/+3Morale of the story? Don't ***** with Google.
- arjie, on 09/10/2008, -0/+3Maybe he had only $3000.
- chaos7, on 09/10/2008, -0/+2also probably illegal
- jeffvvisoft, on 09/10/2008, -0/+2Six-Year-Old News Story Causes United Airlines Stock to die...
Ok, so UAL management had nothing to do with their current predicament. - aussieNickuss, on 09/11/2008, -0/+2Could have made a cool $80,000 profit almost instantly if you had.
- inactive, on 09/10/2008, -0/+2But, if the story had been accurate, then that would've been one of those $3000 blunders.
- dood, on 09/10/2008, -0/+2Have you ever tried to search on digg prior to submitting? I have. It doesn't work all that well.
- lulzitsadigg, on 09/10/2008, -0/+2@Scira: It was actually that 1 year old talking baby from the e-trade commercial
- inactive, on 09/10/2008, -0/+2Honestly, I do not understand the rationale behind omitting the date from archived news articles. News is such information which is tightly coupled with time and I believe every news article out there must have the publication date attached to it AT ALL TIMES, no matter how old it is.
While going through google search results, I've come across so many articles which have no date on them, whatsoever, and the only source of date information you could fetch is the timestamp on comments posted for that article. So, I wonder if the comments timestamps can be preserved for eternity, why can't the news article timestamp be preserved along with the article? - afruff23, on 09/11/2008, -0/+2I'd like to see what you would do if you had $1000 of stock in United Airline and saw this story.
- juicycutlets, on 09/10/2008, -0/+2speculation = OMG!
- LogicBomB, on 09/10/2008, -1/+3Oh common! You didn't even glance at the many prior posts before submitting this to digg.
It boggles my mind that you try to point out irony, while being ironic, at the same time you ask if anyone notices something you didn't even look for yourself! - shig, on 09/10/2008, -0/+2This could happen in a regulated market. In fact, it did.
- antespo, on 09/10/2008, -0/+2What is going to make this story even better is when we find that a google employee shorted United Airlines before this happened.
- jessehadden, on 09/10/2008, -0/+2The selection and valuation of stock in this company [United Airlines] was determined automatically by a computer program.
- Scira, on 09/10/2008, -0/+2I thought it was a story about united airlines stock causing a 6 year old to die!
- jdames1980, on 09/10/2008, -0/+2Google better get ready for a lawsuit.
- BotchaMcCoola, on 09/10/2008, -0/+1Did our politicians have enough time to bail them out?
- FTWmovin2canada, on 09/11/2008, -1/+2No, that was not sarcasm. This is a duplicate. What is new about it? Someone screwed up? Big surprise. Nothing new.
- Kyan, on 09/11/2008, -0/+1That is like saying people can die in car accidents when they are wearing seat belts.
True, of course. But if you mean that is an argument to prove wearing seat belts is stupid... - Scira, on 09/10/2008, -1/+2Maybe this will be on digg again in 6 years.
- Nothlit, on 09/10/2008, -0/+1Use Google with site:digg.com. It works better than digg's own search.
- Kozy, on 09/10/2008, -0/+1Tomorrow Never Dies anyone?
- samury, on 09/10/2008, -0/+1What does that have to do with the article?
- cawpin, on 09/10/2008, -0/+1Who cares. The story is STILL 6 years old.
