- inactive, on 10/02/2008, -19/+425If you didn't watch this thing unfold on TV, some of the senators that voted yes pretty much said,
'Although most people disagree with this bill, we know better than the confused masses because we are the elite. Therefore we will vote for this bill.'
Democracy is such a sham in America... - inactive, on 10/02/2008, -9/+215Idiots. Not only do they vote for a bailout of 700 billions, which, according to economists, will cost over 5 trillions down the road, they also give tax cuts to business, including pharmaceutical companies, who are making billions in profit and don't need those tax cuts. Greedy idiots, I tell you.
- unisonic, on 10/02/2008, -12/+181Dear Senate,
F•uck you very much for hastily slapping a 700+ billion dollar band-aid on a shotgun wound and listening to the people. - soapandfoam, on 10/02/2008, -9/+173I'm very disappointed with this government.
- BluesFan, on 10/02/2008, -5/+168They just postponed a mild recession for a depression.
- inactive, on 10/02/2008, -28/+139The United Socialist States of America.
This is NOT A REPUBLIC anymore. - insomniacal, on 10/02/2008, -3/+111I, for one, do NOT welcome our Treasury Department overlords.
- StainedSilver, on 10/02/2008, -4/+101I wonder if any of them actually read the provisions in the bill before signing it.
Sec. 503. Exemption from excise tax for certain wooden arrows designed for use by children.
Sec. 502. Provisions related to film and television productions.
Sec. 504. Income averaging for amounts received in connection with the Exxon Valdez litigation.
Sec. 316. Railroad track maintenance.
Sec. 308. Increase in limit on cover over of rum excise tax to Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
Sec. 317. Seven-year cost recovery period for motorsports racing track facility.
What a joke. Vote them all out. - normlsparky, on 10/02/2008, -7/+92nice, from 3 pages to over 400 pages. i can't wait to see the final bill. our govt can't seem to do ANYTHING efficiently.
- inurb, on 10/02/2008, -8/+87I love how you Obama lovers fail to recognize that Obama voted for FISA and now this Bailout Package. Yeah he is the change we need. lol Tax & Spend, Tax & Spend, take rights away, tax & spend...
disclaimer - not voting for McCain either. - batmaninthehood, on 10/02/2008, -5/+82pitch forks
- vorbalhorde, on 10/02/2008, -11/+88FTA: "Additions include an increase in bank deposit insurance limits, a suggested change to accounting rules, and a $150.5 billion package of unrelated personal and corporate tax cuts."
So they already ***** us, now they want to reward them with more tax cuts? ***** YOU TOO! - Futile, on 10/02/2008, -11/+78The confused masses also voted for George W Bush, TWICE. My faith in democracy is long gone.
- CosmicJustice, on 10/02/2008, -4/+71President Bush proposed it originally you moron.
- inactive, on 10/02/2008, -8/+69Stop ruining free market.
- stealthc, on 10/02/2008, -5/+62So THIS is what tarring and feathering was for...

- 7yler, on 10/02/2008, -27/+78Welcome to France; America, as a nation and as a dream, is dead.
- sandbun, on 10/02/2008, -1/+47Obama voted for it. This is not a Republican thing. It's a "the two parties don't give a ***** about you and me" thing. Again, Obama voted for it. What is the reason to support him again other than the "lesser evil" argument?
- EarlofSlander, on 10/02/2008, -4/+48Forget about democracy we were founded as a republic and we haven't had that in nearly 100 years.
- HereticKings, on 10/02/2008, -10/+53I'm pretty sure their job as senators IS to know better than the "confused masses", is it not? I thought that was the point. I mean, what kind of idiots would intentionally elect someone who appeared stupid to run their government? Man, I would hate to live in that country.
- siszam, on 10/02/2008, -2/+39Understatement of the year!
- oakhilltop, on 10/02/2008, -3/+39Well, Obama has been pushing hard for this, so if he's elected, then he deserves to look bad. Between this and FISA, Obama has convinced me not to vote for him.
I guess it's Nader. - Waiting2awake, on 10/02/2008, -6/+41France is leagues above America right now.... Sure they are socialists - and apparently so is the US, the only difference is they have health care and their government listens to them.
- lolupissed, on 10/02/2008, -6/+37***** if there was money to be made private companies would be buying this *****.
- lolupissed, on 10/02/2008, -14/+44October 1st, 2008
The day the democracy died - MrFurious2k, on 10/02/2008, -3/+32The problem was, when the market fell after the first bailout failed, a lot of people freaked. People have no stomach when their own wallets are affected. They're content to let the fallout from the bubble affect someone else, but once their own portfolio takes a *****, they're ready to allow big government to "save them". Considering that there are lots of really smart economists (Keynesians no doubt) pushing the bail out, the average person is wondering why they shouldn't support it too. I've heard on more than one occasion that the average people aren't taking the advice of economists.
No one (short of Ron Paul) is saying what it's going to do to the currency and buying power of every single person who relies on the dollar. Worse yet, the policies that allowed this problem to occur in the first place aren't being fixed by the bill. Somehow, this is being billed as a failure of the free market rather than the result of bad fiscal policy enacted by politicians. Sadly, even diggers are going to fall into the trap of left/right responsibility instead of fixing the oversight issues and removing the government from mandating percentages of loans made to the "underserved."
This bailout won't be enough to jumpstart the economy, but it will be enough to devalue the dollar. Worse, it'll allow the bubble to begin reforming and we can almost guarantee ourselves this same fight in 10-15 years. - theutopian, on 10/02/2008, -1/+30@9bpm9
Not True. The temperance lobby was one of the first special interest groups. Prohibition is a great example of a minority screwing over the majority. - jmpeagle, on 10/02/2008, -2/+31i am so glad they threw in that 192 million dollar tax break for run producers in puerto rico and the virgin islands plus the 6 million for the makers of wooden arrows
- inactive, on 10/02/2008, -3/+31We told you NO Jackasses. Stop it.
- insomniac8400, on 10/02/2008, -4/+30It will never pass the house. The pork is too great. But the funny thing was McCain and Obama are against pork, with McCain emphasizing his opposition, both passes this.
- jfk4thewin, on 10/02/2008, -13/+38***** the system.
- Folksie, on 10/02/2008, -1/+25I was a Ron Paul supporter, but then when it was obvious the Republican party wasn't taking him seriously I became an Obama supporter, until he stated his support for this bill. I'm officially voting 3rd party now, there is no difference between repubs and dems, they're both of the money party and both as is obvious by this last vote, equally ready to screw us whenever possible.
- AFelsinger, on 10/02/2008, -8/+31for real.
- melodeath666, on 10/02/2008, -6/+28They all just want go-karts.
No but seriously, ***** the american government. - camiller, on 10/02/2008, -2/+24quit sugar coating it!
- SmpleJohn, on 10/02/2008, -3/+24As an owner you should know how to budget properly and should not have workers that you can't afford.
- KSUdesigner, on 10/02/2008, -2/+23Right but isn't it also their job to listen to their constituents? At least if they think their constituents are wrong about something they should inform us of the reasons why they think we are wrong, instead of this I'm better than you *****.
- Godwhacker, on 10/02/2008, -6/+27I'm glad for you that you are happy about being sold down the river as a slave to the banking class. How do the chains fit?
- StatusWoe, on 10/02/2008, -3/+23One of the big differences is that in France the people will actually do something when their government ***** on them. A history of protest and revolution puts the fear in the government as opposed to the people.
- siszam, on 10/02/2008, -9/+29Was there health care in the bill? No? Then we're far from France.
- Waiting2awake, on 10/02/2008, -17/+36How many distressed mortgages are there in America? At an average price of 225K, would buy out 3.1 million homes.... Wouldn't that be the most effective use of the taxpayers money? To buy back taxpayers homes?
But that isn't what is happening is it? Why?
Because you are all slaves, under the illusion of freedom.
Now that everyone has to be aware of this - what are they going to do? - hugolp, on 10/02/2008, -5/+24Nice try of making it look like Bush is oposed to the bill. Bush proposed it. Wonder why you tried that.
- hugolp, on 10/02/2008, -1/+20Free market disapeared long time ago from the US.
- Waiting2awake, on 10/02/2008, -2/+20Chuck - a vote for either of the two parties is a wasted vote. Either way, same ***** is going to be done.
- TheInformer, on 10/02/2008, -8/+26I'd rather have someone honest and not the smartest in office vs. someone who is "intelligent" and deceptive.
- jehan60188, on 10/02/2008, -1/+19get ready for hyperinflation in the US!
- nofate2029, on 10/02/2008, -8/+26Why do I have the feeling I'm going to be seeing this on TV in about 10 years:
"CNNMSNBCRIAAMPAA is proud to present the television debut of America: A Free Country Remembered" -
Show 51 - 100 of 505 discussions
