- thetanbark, on 12/12/2008, -8/+46Wal*Mart claims another life.
- jd72277, on 12/12/2008, -1/+37this store has been in the dumps for years. when I was a kid they ruled for the last few years they looked like outlet stores, just junk everywhere. I guess shoppers will continue to go w/ walmart and target instead of the fun of going in a store selling nothing but toys.
- phantom_mullet, on 12/12/2008, -1/+32About time. It's been years since I've set foot in a KB Toys store...ridiculously overpriced. I'm surprised it took them this long to go bankrupt.
- apec766, on 12/12/2008, -0/+30Purchase the company.
- elitebmo, on 12/12/2008, -4/+32dugg for the title alone
- inactive, on 12/12/2008, -4/+21what am i gonna do with my $6000 of KB gift cards
- dbineb1, on 12/12/2008, -0/+14or 40 subscriptions to Vibe?
- Mexrocker, on 12/12/2008, -1/+15This vicious cycle really won't help the economy will it? People get fired, spend less, companies lose money, cut back jobs, so those people spend less, and more companies lose more money... how the hell is this vicious cycle suppose to be broken?
- bjs3171, on 12/12/2008, -1/+12go right now?
- AlexandraF, on 12/12/2008, -2/+13The parents in the food courts in the malls around the country will now have to babysit their own kids...
- lordwow, on 12/12/2008, -1/+10Ya, maybe if every time I went to buy something at KB Toys it wasn't 10%-20% more than MSRP I would have bought something there.
- heyitsguay, on 12/12/2008, -0/+8A drop in spending eventually causes a drop in prices, which eventually causes an increase in spending, more demand creates more jobs, etc.
- oceanswillrise, on 12/12/2008, -1/+9In my mall this store is always just a disaster.
- nju0843, on 12/12/2008, -1/+8santa IS coming...
http://www.bustedtees.com/santa#female - daimposter, on 12/12/2008, -0/+7better selection? wrong! lower price...yes!
- schizogony, on 12/12/2008, -1/+7What is he gonna do with 40 subscriptions to Vibe?
- daimposter, on 12/12/2008, -0/+6give them as gifts to your nieces and nephews.
- fattehboi, on 12/12/2008, -1/+7lol wtf, my mall JUST got their KB Toys back.
pwned - Trick07, on 12/12/2008, -1/+7I worked there for a year when I was 18, back in '88 as an assistant manager. Back then they had all the great stuff, a lot of it ended up in the "trash can" and then at my home. I had a race car track so long at one time it wouldn't power the cars until we remove some of the extra track. Nintendo... models... I had to work 48 hours a week @ $7 an hour, not bad for 1988 and being 18, still living a home with my parents.
I will never forget the time 2 old Asian ladies had a spit fight in our store over one last toy. Horribly and funny at the same time. - marksism, on 12/12/2008, -0/+6This is because credit markets are frozen- people would love to buy a cheap house, but they can't get a loan to do so.
- black27696, on 12/12/2008, -0/+6It's not even possible to list all of the stores that are cheaper than KB because ALL OF the stores are cheaper. That place has always been a mystery to me as to why it managed to stay open. I remember being 10 and having paper route money and I learned that lesson quickly when my mom convinced me to look in target for the same toy.
- wmoneil3, on 12/12/2008, -1/+7phantom_mullet is right.
They always have been overpriced. They were more expensive than Toys R Us because they had to pay such high overhead at the malls. And they didn't move that much product. They figured that since they were in malls they could charge an extra 10% on everything and make profits. But in reality, the developers who own the malls made all of the profits. - Mujokan, on 12/12/2008, -0/+5Kind of the definition of the credit crunch.
- apothekari, on 12/12/2008, -1/+6"Yeah, Democrats enjoy the ***** stew we Republican neo-con financial wizards left you!"
"Why do you think we call it "trickle down"?!
At what point exactly do you realize your blind hatred of anyone other than conservatives has brought you to where you are?
In the soup line?
When they come for YOUR house?
You think it's funny now just wait a while, It's gonna get less funny by the day. - avgbody, on 12/12/2008, -0/+5With 50% of electronics and *****, you can get a ton of useless stuff.
- inactive, on 12/12/2008, -1/+5There goes half of China's plastic industry. Now I'll have to go to Toys 'R Us to enjoy screaming, unsupervised kids and sticky, broken toys all over the floor.
- inactive, on 12/12/2008, -0/+4Maybe the Kay-Bee of old had a better selection, but that hasn't been the case for years.
- publiclurker, on 12/12/2008, -1/+5I agree. The last time I went to one it looked like the unkempt, closeout isle of a K-Mart.
- Kumah, on 12/12/2008, -0/+4out of toys.
- inactive, on 12/12/2008, -3/+7Because Wal-Mart offers a better selection and lower prices.
If you can't compete, you deserve to die. - megamod, on 12/12/2008, -0/+4Technically it is coming, just not for KB toys stores themselves.
Parents (Santa) will be able to more affordably buy gifts for their kids. - Beatmiser, on 12/12/2008, -1/+5Dugg but only because she has nice melons.
- mozzep, on 12/12/2008, -0/+4actually they filed for bankruptcy about 4 years ago, so it didn't take that long.
- Mujokan, on 12/12/2008, -2/+6Goddamn Democrats caring about jobs!
- black27696, on 12/12/2008, -0/+4@Mexrocker
companies lose more money.... stock market goes down, oil goes down, prices go down, people drive more, people go on more vacations, people buy more, prices go up, gas goes up, stock market goes up, companies gain money, people get hired, people spend more, prices go up, people spend less, prices get too high, people get fired, so they spend less, companies lose money, cut back jobs, more companies lose more money...
You have to actually COMPLETE the cycle before you start talking about breaking it. It wouldn't be a cycle if it didn't....cycle.... - johnboyjr, on 12/12/2008, -1/+5i help with a group that buys gifts for needy family's we do over 1000 kids. walmart and kb are both over priced. toys r us is the best place. target is good too.
- inactive, on 12/12/2008, -1/+5KB has been overpriced for years. They priced themselves out of the market. Not even about walmart. Target, shopko, costco, kohls, even toysrus or online all have prices twice as cheap without the headache of going to the mall.
- Mujokan, on 12/12/2008, -0/+4We're in the period of deflation of a big, nasty bubble. Everything goes downhill for the next year. The idea is to cushion it enough that it doesn't do long-term damage. But the trend can't be reversed.
