- seattlegirluw, on 03/18/2009, -3/+25It's logical, well-reasoned and smart. It'll never make it in Congress.
- jam3p, on 03/19/2009, -0/+10Dugg for the "Highlights" reference.
- inactive, on 03/19/2009, -0/+8We have been doing this sense about 1980 the more of a screw up you are the higher you go. This works because people don't want to hire someone who may replace them, so they hire dumbasses below them so they can feel safe in their job. When your new boss tells you he or she doesn't need to know what you do to manage you it's time to find a new job..
- hooah212002, on 03/19/2009, -0/+8there you go again, using commas instead of apostrophes.
- edstate, on 03/19/2009, -4/+11Punishing success and drive, while rewarding failure and laziness is the new American Way.
We're *****. - 1google1, on 03/19/2009, -0/+7Goofus and Gallant was the best part of Highlights.
That and the find at least 10 differences between these two pictures. - z0rk, on 03/19/2009, -0/+4without govt money flowing in AIG would be broken up into small companies. the parts of AIG that make money would remain whole while the failing parts would be purchased by other banks/institutions. There is no reason the govt should be involved financially.
- inactive, on 03/19/2009, -1/+5It started when people voted for Bush over Gore. Nothing was right after that debacle.
- MadEnvoy, on 03/19/2009, -1/+4Think farther back than that.
- Colecoman1982, on 03/19/2009, -1/+4The problem is, we've allowed a small number of companies to grow so large and inegral to the financial market that, in the process of failing, they would, absolutely, ruin huge swaths of the economy. The biggest problem with AIG is the house of cards they've created with their Credit Default Swaps. However, just because the company is too important to allow it to fail doesn't mean we have to leave the same morons running it. We've already replaced the CEO and should be working it get rid of the people responsible for this mess as well.
- inactive, on 03/19/2009, -2/+4You are right the B-actor Ronald Reagan becoming president was the first instance we rewarded failure and laziness.
- Hetman, on 03/19/2009, -0/+2That is the funny thing about the economy. When these companies were posting at least 10% in profits for the last 15 years no one said anything. No one could lose. Now that this is finally catching up to us. Everyone is all of a sudden an economic expert and knows exactly what to do.
- badot, on 10/09/2009, -0/+1This works because people don't want to hire someone who may replace them, so they hire dumbasses below them so they can feel safe in their job.
http://badotinside.blogspot.com http://the-geboy.blogspot.com http://hebohunik.blogspot.com http://kangbadot.com - Hetman, on 03/19/2009, -0/+1The other problem with AIG is that they had a AAA rating. Other countries such as Europe believing the american government would regulate these companies and make sure they were AAA companies used them. This caused the an international banking crisis. Do to the lack of regulation in the US.
- spencen66, on 03/19/2009, -0/+1awww.... I read this as reading goofus while ignoring galant which would of been great
- hooah212002, on 03/19/2009, -1/+2you must watch alot of Fox news huh?
- MattM462, on 03/19/2009, -0/+1Dugg for the Highlights reference in the title... The days at the doctor's office...
- ShrimpCrackers, on 03/19/2009, -1/+2Silly fools. We should always give free money to the corporations that have shown they don't know how to handle it, like AIG & the late Enron. That'll boost the economy surely!
/s - inactive, on 03/19/2009, -0/+1digg isn't fond of truth. People only see inequality or victims, never the details.
- mactackle52, on 03/19/2009, -1/+2Are these the biblical brothers Gallant and Goofus?
(If you've never seen Arrested Development, don't digg me down just cos you don't get it.) - Pxtl, on 03/19/2009, -0/+1That's what I've been saying since day 1. Let the bad companies fail, and offer money to subsidize the buyouts if successful competitors choose to pick up the pieces with minimal down-time.
Do it for car companies too. Let Chrysler fail, and throw a pile of money at Toyota, Honda et al if they'll buy Chrysler's assets and keep the factories running. - inactive, on 03/19/2009, -1/+2too ironic that the neocunts are whining about socialism and how it will reward the mediocre
when that's all they've done this whole goddamned time
stacked the deck to penalize intelligence and honesty, and let those with least integrity rob everyone else - julielynn1009, on 03/20/2009, -0/+1Actually, I have been saying that the system is a mess for a long time. No one listened. Having worked in the financial industry for the past 20 years I have seen reduced regulations spun as a benefit to everyone while knowing that it is not. Sure there is a potential financial benefit, but knowing the realities of human nature, greed is always the single motivating force behind the lobbying. What is happening today has happened before and the general public is very gullible when it comes to things of this nature. Hell, they are gullible about almost anything.
I had no interest in my investments making huge gains - I would have been thrilled to see much smaller growth in the market because I know that means there won't be a huge downfall later. My perspective is not popular and trying to convince others of this amounts to them looking at me like I should be wearing a tinfoil hat. Yes, you are right in saying that many did not complain about the gains but it would not have mattered. I did complain and was called a naysayer and accused of being a doom seeker. Kind of a no win situation.
I am not a financial wizard nor do I have any psychic ability when it comes to the market, but a little common sense should have prevented this. Most people lack common sense. - jfreeman, on 03/20/2009, -0/+1This is just propaganda the government is using to try to convince people to support bailouts of their rich buddies.
- MicheleFloyd, on 03/19/2009, -0/+1I loved it, though the children's drawings submitted every month were usually *****.
- jfreeman, on 03/20/2009, -0/+1If we're going to be doing bailouts, why don't we try one where we give a ***** of money to the successful competitors of the guys in trouble and let the failing businesses get bought up?
- inactive, on 03/20/2009, -0/+1I had completely forgot about that..series of books? Wherever goofus and gallant were from.
- pjdietz, on 03/20/2009, -0/+1My all time favorite Hank Hill quote was when he was sitting at the doctor's office reading Highlights and he says "I tell you what, this Goofus fella is a dumbass!"
- tmbrown, on 03/20/2009, -0/+1/s
- ShyGuy91284, on 03/19/2009, -2/+2Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the reason we are bailing out financial companies that are doing bad to protect their clients, not the company itself?
- nepidae, on 03/19/2009, -0/+0goofus and gallant kicked ass.
- staffa, on 03/19/2009, -1/+1I dugg you down for an entirely different reason.
- inactive, on 03/19/2009, -1/+0People cry that the same execs are at AIG, then they will cry when the government nationalizes the banks so they can throw out the bums.
There is no winning situation here. - inactive, on 03/19/2009, -2/+1"We have been led to believe that several of these companies are ‘too big to fail’ so we simply must help them."
Yes. Where the ***** were you when Lehman Brother's almost killed the US economy last September?
I don't think too many people like the situation, but let's not completely throw out reality. Saving AIG was a situation that we HAD to do, only because Americans were apathetic the last decade. These junior economists just discovered moral hazard. A bit late to the party, aren't we? - VincePlumber6, on 03/19/2009, -4/+1All the bailouts are killing the country REAL TIME DEBT http://www.usdebtclock.org
- syntaxgs, on 03/19/2009, -6/+1uh don,t you mean it WILL make it in america congress? you said logical and will reason
unless you think congress is fill of IDIOTS =D LOL wich it,s not =P
