- DAaaMan64, on 06/10/2009, -12/+220Always a pleasure to here from real economists.
- scoot87, on 06/10/2009, -7/+179this was a great interview. Jon Stewart was so cordial in this interview, which demonstrates his true professionalism. Peter Schiff's main point is that government spending will lead to a long-term disastrous outcome and how Obama is replicating the same "solution" that was implemented in the early 2000's after the stock market bubble (i.e. Greenspan stimulating the economy by lowering interest rates that produced an over indulgence in borrowing in the private sector).
- bradleyland, on 06/10/2009, -1/+168Are we sure this is a comedy show? Because I'll be damned if that wasn't one of the smartest interviews I've heard in a long time.
- inactive, on 06/10/2009, -0/+158The video was removed from youtube.
Here it is on the daily show website:
http://www.thedailyshow.com/video/index.jhtml?vide ... - FrozenPie, on 06/10/2009, -10/+150That clip with the Fox News guy smirking at Peter always puts a smile on my face
- inactive, on 06/10/2009, -3/+118Finally, the words of wisdom and common sense begin to enter the mainstream.
I remember when Peter Schiff was laughed at for suggesting there would be a housing market crisis back in 2006. Listening to what the man is predicting right now might be in our best interest folks. Remember, all the people who are "fixing" the problem right now helped engineer it. - enochthewalker, on 06/10/2009, -1/+106Glad to see Schiff expanding his audience. Props to The Daily Show for having him on.
- Genecalypse, on 06/10/2009, -8/+110i like how comedy central is better for news
- MooseOfReason, on 06/10/2009, -5/+104Schiff was right, and he was ignored.
Can we stop ignoring him now? Can we stop having the Federal Reserve print money out of thin air and de-value our currency? - mablung, on 06/10/2009, -4/+101Screw Ben Stein

- ctiger2, on 06/10/2009, -5/+91End The Fed!
- mikebrinkman, on 06/10/2009, -5/+89It's funny to see how guys like Peter Schiff & Ron Paul were laughed at back before the election, now people are starting to listen to them.
- baldbomber, on 06/10/2009, -7/+82I love how Digg hates Peter Schiff while Glenn Beck is talking about him for 2 years, but when Jon Stewart talks to him, the man is brilliant.
- Nielsio, on 06/10/2009, -4/+75Schiff kept making very strong cynical statements, but before the crowd was allowed to enjoy the amusement and wasting airtime, he kept making new points, and Jon stayed in rhythm. Jon also did his homework and showed that he could break through the usual level of accepting government premises. At least it's a chance that he takes this through to his future commentary.
- funkedup, on 06/10/2009, -3/+71SCHIFF FOR SENATE!!!
- Vodd9, on 06/10/2009, -4/+67That's not all.
The guy was Ron Paul's economic adviser during his campaign. - inactive, on 06/10/2009, -10/+71THANK GOD FOR JON STEWART!!!!!!!!
How ironic that Americans have to watch a Comedy channel to get the news.
"a recent study by the University of Pennsylvania's National Annenberg Election Survey, which said young viewers of "The Daily Show were more likely to answer questions about politics correctly than those who don't."
http://www.freepress.net/news/4765
”Viewers of Jon Stewart's show are more likely to have completed four years of college than people who watch "The O'Reilly Factor," according to Nielsen Media Research.”http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6117542/
Also, funny that after Jon Stewart appeared on Crossfire and outed them for not really being a debate show but just another right-wing extremist circus that is destroying American, CNN cancelled the show.
Thanks for that Jon.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rmZkw169xEI - libertymeister, on 06/10/2009, -3/+64I heard that of the guys laughing at Schiff, only Ben Stein had the integrity to apologize for being wrong.
Schiff is spot-on, and I will be buying his book. Reminds me largely of what Tom Woods has been saying, and for that matter...Ron Paul.
Where is the outrage at the scams, lies and diversions? - Briandrews15, on 06/10/2009, -3/+60I hope more people continue pointing out that Obama and Bush both share the same failed philosophy when it comes to economics. Bush started the nationalization of the private sector then Obama's change is to be the one-upper.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_TjBNjc9Bo - HippyInASuit, on 06/10/2009, -2/+47Here is one Connecticut resident who will vote for Schiff no matter who he runs against, but ESPECIALLY against Dodd!
- billyf3, on 06/10/2009, -2/+42Peter Schiff is the man!
I would love if he ran for senate!! - jsffive, on 06/10/2009, -6/+42We live in a country that honestly thinks that there are supposed to be no down sides in life. We have really been fooled into thinking that we can have the best of ALL worlds, and that we don't have to pay a price.
Someone in a comment above noted that Mr. Schiff wants to return to a gold standard, as if the mere mention of it is an indictment. But look at what has happened to the U.S. dollar since the inception of the Federal Reserve. Yes, there are more PHYSICAL dollar bills floating around these days, but in 1913, you could walk into a store with a twenty dollar bill and buy... wait for it... FOUR HUNDRED LOAVES OF BREAD...
How many loaves of bread will a twenty buy nowadays?
It's not the "terrorist Muslims" who will destroy this country, despite what the media wants you to believe. It will be USURY that will destroy this country.
As a side note, this bouncing "add a comment" box is really starting to piss me off. Why can't the people at Digg get their heads out of their asses and fix it? - MooseOfReason, on 06/10/2009, -3/+37As opposed to people who say things like this:
"Low interest rates, in turn, have been crucial to America's housing boom. And soaring house prices don't just create construction jobs; they also support consumer spending because many homeowners have converted rising house values into cash by refinancing their mortgages.
So why is the U.S. government complaining?"
That was Paul Krugman in 2005, cheering on the boom.
Why are we listening to him now? - mgnyc11, on 06/10/2009, -2/+36reed311 - I would be more than glad to show can show you my Europac account up 35% this year. Most of the losses have been completely returned to the clients, and if you had doubled up 20% off the low you would probably be up a good 20-30%. The example you are referring to was 1 client who was overweight in gold and oil and had his lunch handed to him. Now that oil is back to $72 I wonder what his losses really are.
- funkedup, on 06/10/2009, -3/+37I would love if he ran for president!!
- alais, on 06/10/2009, -4/+37I would support ANYONE running against Dodd,
- karlisjones, on 06/10/2009, -1/+32i like this guy
- scfishy, on 06/10/2009, -13/+43That is because Glenn Beck is ***** insane. Nobody here trusts his opinion, even if it happens to be right sometimes.
- srsgd8, on 06/10/2009, -0/+28Just to be fair, he's not a Fox News guy, he's Mike Norman and he's been destroyed by Peter on CNBC as well.
- Briandrews15, on 06/10/2009, -0/+28@sodade
The GOP does not represent conservatism even though they may claim to. Most Republicans vote for the "lesser of 2 evils". George W. Bush may have championed conservatism in his campaign, but he was anything but conservative in policies. - funkedup, on 06/10/2009, -13/+38Not only that, but Bush and Obama share the same failed philosophy on most other issues as well. Obama is not change, but more of the same.
- funkedup, on 06/10/2009, -4/+27Krugman is the biggest idiot of all. His uptopian political views clearly shape his economic views, which are doomed to failure. I can't believe this guy is a famed economist.
- funkedup, on 06/10/2009, -1/+24Don't worry. Theres going to be a "Peter Schiff Was Right Part 2" coming out sometime in the next few years.
- vacuum2440, on 06/10/2009, -1/+24its nice to hear someone who has their head on straight
- HippyInASuit, on 06/10/2009, -2/+24Yeah, now that the elections are over and Dr Paul isn't president, Fox news pumps him up and promotes him so much! They need to look like real conservatives, but we know they're ***** sell outs and corporate fascist whores. Fox is the same channel that banned him from one of their debates, and poo pooed their own post-debate poll results multiple times when Ron Paul won, telling people to stop spamming, and now they pretend to like him. Makes me ***** sick!
- scoot87, on 06/10/2009, -3/+25HULU (US only):
http://www.hulu.com/watch/76794/the-daily-show-wit ... - richmomz, on 06/10/2009, -1/+22Larry King has nothing on Jon Stewart - The Daily Show has the most prescient and interesting interviews of any mainstream network by FAR, for the simple fact that Stewart isn't a walking vagina and has the guts to ask questions and call people out in ways nobody else would dare (watch his interview with Jim Cramer, or his appearance on Crossfire with Tucker Carlson a couple years ago (which single-handedly torpedoed Carlson's career and got the show cancelled) as a couple of perfect examples).
It kind of says something about the state of the free press in this country when the best journalism comes exclusively from comedy shows and satire. As the old saying goes, the only person in the kingdom that can tell the truth about the king without fear of losing his head... is the court jester. - inactive, on 06/10/2009, -1/+22Of course he's not perfect. His investment strategy is long term. Although he lost money in the brief dollar rally at the end of 2008, most of those losses have been recovered this year.
His father, Irwin Schiff, is in jail as a political prisoner for resisting what he sees as an unconstitutional and immoral income tax. - docliberty, on 06/10/2009, -6/+27hmm, not sure if I can handle common sense economic discussion.
- bluesman3535, on 06/10/2009, -0/+20At least seeing him blindly disagreeing with Schiff exposes him as another right-wing buffoon. Another 'perceived genius' is Alan Greenspan, who brought the US to the edge of collapse then quit.
- COLstriker, on 06/10/2009, -3/+22whenever i point it out to my friends they tell me im retarded... except the conservatives... i guess this is one thing that they actually get
- inactive, on 06/10/2009, -4/+22Listen to it again.
He explains it. Everything being done to prevent the "depression" is only making it worse in the long run. This has been happening for decades. There has to be a correction, a real correction, soon or there will be an even bigger correction (aka disaster) in the future. - pathouston22, on 06/10/2009, -6/+24The only people that can "fix" the economy are consumers. We make up 70% of the GDP. Obama and Congress think they can fix it. Instead, they want to tax us for healthcare, fuel efficient cars, electricity costs, carbon credits, etc etc.
- inactive, on 06/10/2009, -1/+18He's still around.
http://www.campaignforliberty.com - funkedup, on 06/10/2009, -4/+20They still aren't.
- Nielsio, on 06/10/2009, -3/+18The real, long term solution, also from a real economist:
Money and Banking (Hans Hoppe)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tyeF7H3tHFw&fea ...
That solution is a free market in money, which had led to the worldwide gold standard in 1900, which was then broken up by governments for their self interest, under which we are all suffering now. - XeN0cidE, on 06/10/2009, -4/+18That's it. I'm only watching comedy central now, for everything.
