Online promotions will not kill advertising
weakestlinkconsulting.com — In “The Extinction of Dinosaur Marketers,” I discussed the problems of bringing the old school of hardcore sales and pushy advertising into the new online marketplace. We are starting to see a new trend blooming that is showing exactly this problem.

- spamdragon, on 07/26/2008, -0/+5Dinosaur marketing practices are out of date. Communicating with your customers and actually listening to what they have to say is key to satisfying their needs, securing their recommendation and increasing your customer base. Honest opinions and reviews from trusted sources will never be out of date and savvy business people know this.
- shearyadi, on 07/27/2008, -0/+1Sorry about my poor english :) Maybe I'm misunderstanding Erik's post but in general he writes good article. But I don't think "Dinosaur Marketing" is out of date.
I've been in the advertising agency for around 15 years before leave and concentrate to my own web designing business. From my experience, online marketing is only can be successful if your product is targeted to consumers who also internet maniac. The traditional marketing strategy is also needed, and can be more useful, if the product is not targeted to those who are also internet users.
The better results for both types are maybe to use the traditional (dinosaur) marketing strategy and online marketing in good proportion. These two marketing ways are still useful to back-up each other I think :)
All in all, Erik is done it again. His article is as good as always.

- robertstevenson, on 07/26/2008, -0/+5Erik's predictions have been realized. Dinosaurs can't exist in the blogosphere. They must adapt to survive. Well written post: entertains while it informs.
- kellfinder, on 07/27/2008, -0/+2I have learned so much from this blog.

I didn't think so. - DocKC, on 07/27/2008, -0/+2Great article!! This appears to be the bottom line, "Your customers will talk about you, when you simply meet their needs and requirements, and do it with their end satisfaction in mind. Satisfaction will drive discussion and recommendations naturally. Honest opinions and reviews from trusted sources will never be out of date."
