- samard2002, on 01/14/2009, -0/+26I was just talking with my dad about this. As the King of Nigeria, he deals with lots of people that would obviously want to dupe him. In fact, right now, we're trying to find someone trustworthy online to help us with a business transaction...

- inactive, on 01/14/2009, -1/+4The virtual world is really no different than the real world, people can lie in the real world too. The thing to remember with online is, don't give any information about money out to people, don't give information that could lead to identity theft, and most importantly, get to know people on Skype through webcam chats and voice chatting BEFORE you spend hundreds of dollars visiting them.
Online is not as dangerous as people make it seem. I've met people online, met locals from myspace, it's really no different than meeting people at public places. You don't need to shut yourself completely online, just don't be stupid and give extremely personal information to strangers. That's a lot like real life, not giving information to complete strangers. Talk to them like you would in real life. - samard2002, on 01/14/2009, -2/+5I would never trust anyone who follows Levar Burton on Twitter.

In some aspects it may mirror the physical world and even intersect with the real world, however, it's not the real world. It's an entirely different way of arranging information and interpersonal interaction. - vickers500, on 01/14/2009, -0/+2RAmen

Long Answer: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE - juvigt, on 01/23/2009, -0/+2--Greetings in the name of God,
Here writes Laura Kingston, suffering from cancerous ailment of the brain. I was married to Dr. Perry J. Kingston an English man who is now dead. Our life together as man and wife lasted for three decades without a child. My husband died after a protracted illness, before his death we made a vow to uplift the down-trodden and the less-privileged individuals. I can adduce this to the fact that he needed a Child from this relationship, which never came.
When my late husband was alive he deposited the sum of £12,000,000.00 (Twelve Million Pounds sterling) which were derived from his vast estates and investment in capital market with his bank here in UK. Presently, this money is still with the Bank. Recently, my Doctor told me that I have limited days to live due to my illness, this is why I am contacting you to donate the fund to you to complete the wishes of my late Husband,
If you are interested, Please send your response to this email: mrslauraknn@hotmail.com
Endeavor to send your reply to this email: mrslauraknn@hotmail.com
Respectfully,
Mrs. Laura Kingston.
- carlosos, on 01/14/2009, -0/+2I trust people on the Internet as much as people I see in person. I make my own opinion on who I should trust and it doesn't matter if online or not. I won't give anyone on the Internet my credit card if they ask me for it to verify my identity and I don't give someone my cars to make sure that the air pressure on the tires is good... (Maybe not the best example but good enough, right?)
- Alfarin, on 01/14/2009, -0/+2trust everyone, just not the devil inside them.
- hackingtravel, on 01/14/2009, -2/+4Levar Burton brought this issue up today on twitter. The public is smart enough to know based on CONTENT whether someone is who they say they are. HECK.. if you're smart enough to fool the public into thinking you are @barackobama then I'll vote for YOU TOO!
- mrmudgeon, on 01/14/2009, -0/+2There are a saying in corporate life.
"Assume that all of your emails will be published on the front page of the New York Times" or Wall Street Journal if you prefer :)
Truer words have not been said. The problem of trust is not new. The internet does not magically make people more trustworthy, so you have to pay more attention. The reason it seems so is because more strangers are available for anyone to touch. Some of the issue is caused by anonymity. Be aware of what anyone says when you cant verify who they are. - leif777, on 01/14/2009, -0/+2I don't even trust time stamps on boobs...
- EmmaEwers, on 01/16/2009, -0/+1This article was great, almost everything I do is online and has been for the past 8 years or so. I met my husband through a chat room which I never expected. Obviously I met a few dodgy characters to say the least a long the way! For all its faults tho the interent is a great way to connect and learn. It astonishes me to this day thay many folks fall for online scams and phishing e-mails - maybe these kinds of skills should now be taught at school to make our kids more internet savvy??
- AbominableHoman, on 01/14/2009, -1/+2I'll start the revolution.
I'm hung like a three year old asian. Trust me. - inactive, on 01/14/2009, -0/+1but how can you find the devil inside them before they murder you or take your money?
i think the x-files put it quite well: trust no one.
guilty until proven innocent. of course that doesn't mean you shouldn't humour people. maybe even rob THEM! - rda1441, on 01/14/2009, -1/+2No one. The Internet isn't real.....Al Gore invented a toaster over, no the internet.
- acreacreacre, on 01/14/2009, -0/+1who -> whom? "you" is the subject?
- syntaxgs, on 01/14/2009, -1/+2Uh if they have a Picture then you KNOW it's them =P just ask for a Picture and your fine, VERY hard too forg fake pictures
