- xmod3, on 04/28/2008, -11/+32He looks like the dancing old guy from the Six Flags commercials.

;) - secrity, on 04/28/2008, -0/+13He mentioend the Great Depression twice, which I believe was caused or triggered by the crash of 1929, and he refers to himself as "I'm a child of the Depression". I lived through the depression but he was very young at the time.
- sodade, on 04/28/2008, -7/+20What I would like to see is a think tank where the best and brightest economists analyze where we are and the possibilities of where we are going. Isn't it time for a new Manhattan Project focused on how to make America successful in the 21st century? Iraq has proved that our military might isn't worth ***** all in this world anymore (gee, you'd think we could have learned that lesson from Russia in Afganistan) - shouldn't we be focusing on being an economic powerhouse again?
- Steinr, on 04/28/2008, -3/+15I saw none of it and I also don't like what I see now.
- republicker, on 04/28/2008, -3/+15 "People only see what they are prepared to see."
-- Ralph Waldo Emerson - Owwmykneecap, on 04/28/2008, -0/+111. Say there is a big Depression
2. People act like there is a big Depression
3. ???????
4. Loss! - MacroDaemon, on 04/28/2008, -3/+11Because the great depression was in the 12th century, right.
- saxreturns, on 04/28/2008, -1/+7I don't know, but your comment is just as annoying...
- ramiro, on 04/28/2008, -3/+9The 1929 crisis is acquiring the status of myth.
- orbit1979, on 04/28/2008, -1/+6Great Depression = 1929; 1929 = Great Depression
- chuckDontSurf, on 04/28/2008, -2/+7I think you need a good *****-punching for using the word "methinks."
- serif69, on 04/28/2008, -6/+11Summary of the interview, for those who don't want to read the entire thing:
"Hey! You debtors! Get off my lawn!" - Doitdifferently, on 04/28/2008, -3/+7Speaking from experience?
- kemp34, on 04/28/2008, -0/+4We just went through the most insane credit bubble in history. If you think a couple months of turmoil is all that will happen from that, you are very likely to be sadly mistaken.
- Steinr, on 04/28/2008, -2/+6link is safe! and yes he does... although those ads are not a pleasure to watch.
- inactive, on 04/28/2008, -6/+10I suppose phony wars, phony terror, phony borders, and phony elections are NOT good for the economy.
Who would have ever imagined the consequences? - bdbr, on 04/28/2008, -0/+3Its funny how the doom-and-gloom articles started showing up on the WSJ right after Murdoch bought it.
- ronaldinho, on 04/28/2008, -2/+5He's spot on on the housing. I am thinking of buying a condo and I can afford it, the reason I'm holding out is because I still think that prices can still drop further, so I haven't yet make a move. Either way, today's economy is half-reality, half-speculation, and I think we still got quite a while before the economy straightens itself. Well, knowing who is our next president will certainly help. Still too much unpredictability in this country to make any sound economic decisions.
- inactive, on 04/28/2008, -1/+4There is one, its called the Bilderberg Group and all the freaks think it is a conspiracy run by Lizard men.
- sodade, on 04/28/2008, -1/+4You are going to ask us to trust an intl group of power people that includes prominent Neo-Cons who have sold us the Iraq war? ***** hilarious - calling them reptilian overlords is only slightly more wacky than trusting these losers who have sold us down the river. For the record, I was talking about a national (not international) think tank comprised of the best and brightest economists - i.e. actual economists, not the douchebags who have ***** the US economy.
- Look4Truth, on 04/28/2008, -2/+4The naysayers and fluff riders are going to be devastated when everything crashes to a halt.
- roosterjack, on 04/28/2008, -2/+4We have to brace ourselves then.
- bsmang, on 04/28/2008, -2/+4Reading Comprehension. Study it.
- inactive, on 04/28/2008, -0/+2You said a group of brightest economist, I simply pointed out that they do meet every year.
I'm not the one who said they are lizards, David Ickes did over at your homepage PRISON PLANET. - laserdog, on 04/28/2008, -0/+23. Invest in apples and pencils!
4. Profit! - bosssmiley, on 04/28/2008, -3/+5Dugg for getting him off your lawn. :-)
- futebol87, on 04/28/2008, -3/+5The title made it sound like it came from The Onion
- bdbr, on 04/28/2008, -0/+2Economists have opinions that are all over the map, from conservative deregulation to liberal socialization. You could put them in a room and let them argue for a week, and they'd still have the same opinions.
- regeya, on 04/28/2008, -0/+2Exactly. How is having 3-4 articles a day about how doomed America supposedly is really going to do anything?
Action is needed, not words. - inactive, on 04/28/2008, -3/+5no respect for your elders means that you repeat their mistakes - also, you're a rude little *****?
- Yond, on 04/28/2008, -1/+2I just hope that they don't try to blame 2009's economic results of previous years on Obama. At the same time I hope he will be so legendary that he will be able to clean up the mess no one thought anyone would ever be able to clean up.
- laserdog, on 04/28/2008, -0/+1If we have a big enough depression Jesus *has* to come back!
- inactive, on 04/28/2008, -1/+2Sounded like an headline from the onion at first.... but in this case... its sadly true....
- URnotheonly1, on 04/28/2008, -0/+1got it ready. sierras
- SwordofKahless, on 04/28/2008, -0/+1Sadly most people cannot think beyond the here and now in deciding who is to blame for economic policy. We have a two party system that whole heartily embraced unbalanced trade, the WTO, NAFTA, etc. This was a long time coming with the total sell out of of our manufacturing base engineered by Bush Sr, executed by Clinton and the final death nail hammered by Bush Junior. The 3 of them should be charged with treason.
Considering both parties worship at the altar of globalism and are more concerned about unemployment in China rather than here I doubt things will change. - TomPhoolery, on 04/28/2008, -0/+1Haha, only the idiots will. It's a known fact that the economy lags behind the presidency about four years. Which explains why our economy was so nice in Bush's first 4 years and why it has sucked recently. The economy is probably going to stay at this level or get worse, following Bush's track record.
- ronaldinho, on 04/28/2008, -2/+3maybe he IS, that's his other part-time job
- actionscripted, on 04/28/2008, -0/+1I think he earned a double order of *****-punch for the wink after "methinks".
- wparker, on 04/28/2008, -0/+1If there's any doubt, I just got my 401(k) statement today. What a disaster! And I can't change my rather humble portfolio. So 2008 is going to bleed lots of red ink.
- sodade, on 04/28/2008, -0/+1I am sure that, in a Manhattan Project format, they would be forced to work towards consensus.
- bdbr, on 04/28/2008, -2/+3OK, but how many months of growth will it take for the doomsayers shut up? The Dow is up 700 from two months ago, and is right about where it was in January. If you just read Digg and watched CNN, you'd think we're deep into a recession.
- PATSCRU, on 04/29/2008, -0/+1we're already on it
- spongya77, on 04/28/2008, -0/+1So: what do you do when/if the economy collapses? How can you prepare for that? Get a cabin, and a crossbow in the Rockies?
- DrMonkeyLove, on 04/28/2008, -0/+1But you're still not going to do anything, are you?
- enri, on 04/28/2008, -0/+1We could call it the The Project for the New American Century.
- URnotheonly1, on 04/28/2008, -1/+2I'm all for killing each other and building something out of whats left
- liquidpele, on 04/29/2008, -0/+0It's ironic that you called me rude and a "little *****" in the same breath. Since you put a question mark there, I suppose I'll answer with "no" even though it doesn't make much sense the way you worded it.
"Elders" are not mythical, there are smart ones and not so smart ones. Doing as they say just because they're older can get you into just as much trouble as not listening to their advise. In the end, you have to use your own judgment.
Lastly, grow up a little, you're reply makes you seem like you're not very intelligent. - inactive, on 04/29/2008, -0/+0Buy all the Rice you can
