- mshtml, on 09/29/2008, -5/+132Oil tumbled because the integrity of the dollar was saved. NO BAILOUT
- inactive, on 09/29/2008, -9/+70Very good news.
- TheBigBad, on 09/29/2008, -1/+39Awesome, now when I have to live in my car I can move from from parking lot to parking lot as they make me leave.
- leerayIG88, on 09/29/2008, -0/+27Great Job! Sim City User!
- inactive, on 09/29/2008, -2/+27Bailout fails = recession now
Bailout passes = hyperinflation and huge depression a few years later - TheBigBad, on 09/29/2008, -0/+23Too bad gas prices haven't followed. Oil has dropped almost 40% and the price at the pump has dropped roughly 10%.
- inactive, on 09/29/2008, -2/+24Then why the hell is gas still well over $3.00 a gallon?
- twister17e, on 09/29/2008, -3/+24I just hope oil doesn't have a day where it jumps $30 again!
- enclaved, on 09/29/2008, -2/+21That's what she said.
- rmxz, on 09/29/2008, -0/+19This has a lot to do with the bailout not passing.
Bailout not passing == $1 trillion new dollars *NOT* printed out of nothing for the bailout == the rest of the dollars are worth more than they would have been otherwise. - siszam, on 09/29/2008, -8/+24Remember how Republicans said oil would never go down unless we drilled? Well, it has been steadily going down for a while now.
- scoottie, on 09/29/2008, -2/+16oil is a futures market. which means the price you see now is what will be paid for a barrel of oil in the future. the future is usually less than month down the line and then it takes another couple weeks for that barrel to get to your local gas station.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Futures_contract - Ymeg, on 09/29/2008, -3/+15Republican Retort: I bet it would go down even further if we drill.
- scoottie, on 09/29/2008, -0/+11you know that the ban for drilling was just lift.

- jOOlian, on 09/29/2008, -2/+11The dealers are just lowering their prices so the junkies can still get their fix... Bring on clean energy!
- fauxbro, on 09/29/2008, -0/+9Yes and no. Since oil is dropping that means that the markets out there are decreasing demand and the world economy is nearing or in a reccession. I think it's good news for the us, the little guy, as we won't be paying as much, which is a silver lining in all of this. Also if oil is realitively "cheap" alternate energy sources will look less attractive to the consumers. Tough times are ahead. good luck
- Tetromos, on 09/29/2008, -1/+10You will still have the price gouging, and it's going to take a long time for the gas prices to finally settle..
- nickstang, on 09/29/2008, -0/+9Can someone please explain the economic reasons for the price of oil decreasing? I think most people are expected the price to rise.
- scoottie, on 09/29/2008, -2/+10its still $30 - $40 more expensive than it should be
- deadbaby, on 09/29/2008, -0/+8Hm... so the economy tanks and oil prices go DOWN? Almost makes you wonder if they were just fixing the price to stay high because they control the resource and know people had the money to pay it. Nahhh... they'd never do something like that.
- redxii, on 09/29/2008, -0/+8You cold-hearted bastard.. the oil Sheiks need that money for their 1000th yacht and shipping their cars across the world for an oil change.
- Orsigno, on 09/29/2008, -1/+7Have fun if you're trying to pull out a loan for anything. Plus with the market crashing and the US dollar losing value, it really doesn't matter what the gas prices are... it'll still be expensive.
- Hetman, on 09/29/2008, -0/+6Good thing we did not pass the bail out. It did not seem to work very well for Germany or Belguim and they were like 90% smaller than our 700 billion dollar bail out would have been.
- dirtymerkin, on 09/29/2008, -1/+7Well, at least gas will be cheaper when I get laid off.
- Me1000, on 09/29/2008, -2/+8is it? I mean sure when you go fill up it wont put such a dent in your pocket, but the fact that the whole market is going into a deeper recession causing these price drops...
- enotswhat, on 09/29/2008, -1/+7check to see how much of that is tax
- zomgflamer, on 09/29/2008, -2/+8Woooot, finally all the savings I have in the bank can be used to actually buy things at a reasonable price and not at inflated price created by the Fed and the banks.
Now time for home prices to fall! - Fallout911, on 09/29/2008, -6/+11I don't own any "stock" in that casino you people like to call "The Stock Market".
So yeah it is good news. - Cannon49, on 09/29/2008, -3/+8And yet the price of gas doesn't drop. Surprise, surprise.
- Homerr, on 09/29/2008, -0/+5***** speculators.
- rocke86, on 09/29/2008, -3/+8No the fed quietly injected 700 billion out of thin air into the market anyways, the reason oil is dropping is because we are going to be in for rough times and a lot less gas will be sold.
- FredFredrickson, on 09/29/2008, -0/+5It ddoesn't matter what the cost of gas is - you'll still be paying less. How could that not be smart?
- DigitAl56K, on 09/29/2008, -0/+5Oil is not a safe haven, it just crashed $50 and maybe it will drop further if a bill passes that relaxes offshore drilling restrictions - supple & demand etc.
Of course, the entire market is pure speculation. All you can really say is that some areas are typically safer than others under certain conditions.
As people become more concerned with job loss, reduce salaries, lesser credit lines and poorer economy they will also travel less, try to save money on heating/AC and so forth, temporarily bringing down demand. An influx of fuel efficient vehicles could also permanently lower demand going forward and don't forget that there is a strong chance of the next administration investing significantly in alternative energy and reducing oil dependency. - scoottie, on 09/29/2008, -1/+6@esfisher
yeah i am sorry but it seems that a lot of people only read replies to their own posts - inactive, on 09/29/2008, -1/+5I doubt you have a job to begin with.
- brstilson, on 09/29/2008, -0/+4Why is everyone surprised that oil is going down? The summer driving season is over. This is just the natural rhythm. It'll keep going down, but it will never get as low as it was last year. Then, next year will arrive and around April-May gas prices will start rising again, going even higher than they did this year. I filled up today and was just thinking how I haven't seen the low, low price of $3.62 a gallon for months. It wasn't even a year ago when that price was an outrage.
- scoottie, on 09/29/2008, -2/+6oil is a futures market. which means the price you see now is what will be paid for a barrel of oil in the future. the future is usually less than month down the line and then it takes another couple weeks for that barrel to get to your local gas station.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Futures_contract - OutThere, on 09/29/2008, -0/+4It is a sad fact that our economy REQUIRES debt to function. Not just a little, a lot. All those intrest rates go back to the FEDERAL reserve right?
- orlyfactor, on 09/29/2008, -0/+4Why would the price shoot up if the demand for it (because people are po' now) is bound to go down?
- TheBigBad, on 09/29/2008, -0/+4It sure didn't slow them down on the way up.
- inactive, on 09/29/2008, -3/+7You'd have thought it would have shot up?
Bet it does in the next few days as people find a safe haven to invest in the upcoming *****. - FredFredrickson, on 09/29/2008, -5/+9Until the depression hits us of course. What do you think will happen to the economy when no lines of credit can be extended?
Not that I'm for a bail-out - those Wall Street ***** should eat the entire thing, and I'd really like to see the cost of houses and land come down to a reasonable level - but times are gonna be tough if we don't do anything. - inactive, on 09/30/2008, -0/+4Yes, let me save up $100k before I start college so that way I can pay as I go. That way I can be in my mid 30s when I finally receive a bachelors.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Futures_contract - Kolbeck10, on 09/29/2008, -0/+4You should look up OPEC if you want to see price and production fixing...
- Orsigno, on 09/29/2008, -0/+4I thought there were members of both parties that voted FOR it, as well as AGAINST it.
The repubs that were supposed to vote for it, went against it, which is why it didn't pass.
Inaccurate information = -dig - brstilson, on 09/29/2008, -0/+4Remember in the 90's when gas got REALLY, REALLY low? It was around 1998. I started driving then, and it got down to 79 cents a gallon where I lived. I had an Oldsmobile Delta 88 with a 307 V-8 and a 22 gallon tank. $15 would fill my tank from almost empty and give me enough for the whole week. I remember feeling physically ill when it hit $1.40, and then Bush got into office and it hit $2.00 almost instantly. $2 was a huge psychological barrier for a lot of people. When that happened, I seriously thought the world was going to end...there was NO WAY Americans could afford $2 a gallon gas for very long I thought. Now, $2 a gallon would be a godsend.
- GroundhogBoy, on 09/30/2008, -0/+4If you had to have money before you spent it, you wouldn't have the computer that you're typing your response on because the companies that designed all of the parts for it didn't have the full cost of the R&D onhand when they decided to create them.
