- inactive, on 12/01/2008, -3/+29Wow, great jobs. Not.
- SmilinJoe, on 11/30/2008, -2/+23Yeah, I had a job at a major insurance company. We got bought out by another company and my job was outsourced to an Indian.
The only safe jobs are immediate service jobs (ie, you gotta be there in person to perform that particular service.)
Lucky for me, I had over a decade of experience in a previous field, so I went off and started my own business; best thing I've done! - inactive, on 11/30/2008, -1/+20I didn't see web surfer on there. Then again, I'm pretty sure that could be done overseas. Dang it! ;-)
- GamingForever, on 11/30/2008, -2/+20I'm not qualified for any of them...
- Slade605, on 12/01/2008, -0/+17Can you give me a job? I'm good at dancing and sock puppets.
- BeShirtHappy, on 11/30/2008, -1/+17I'm qualified for 1 out of the 9.
- junkneo, on 12/01/2008, -1/+17Once the outsourced market becomes expensive (like India for example), the profit margin for companies will shrink. They will be forced to bring back the jobs, or they find the next cheap option - another Third-World country.

...care to add Digg? - clarkd, on 12/01/2008, -3/+16Well at least Joe the Plumber is safe.
- IamMikeMusic, on 12/01/2008, -0/+11I'd rather see a list of jobs that are recession proof.
- zomgflamer, on 12/01/2008, -0/+11Ah yes, the service sector, they sure help our economy...
- newms32, on 12/01/2008, -0/+11Completely worthless...how does this article help anyone? It's terrible advice - you shouldn't go into the service sector, where jobs are among the least secure, in order to dodge outsourcing. "Aha! Plumber! That's how I'll beat this outsourcing mess. Those suckers with careers that they can advance in don't know what's coming for them. Or should I become a teacher's aide..."
This is an advertisement for "EarnMyDegree.com." It's written by an employee and there's a link at the bottom, in case you'd like to receive more sterling advice and download coupons for the University of Phoenix. Notice that all of the recommendations are things that can be "certified" for by an online college and none of them require an actual degree. Like that list of occupations that scrolls on the TV screen after the online university infomercial. This "advice" only serves to promote the goals of EarnMyDegree.com; it doesn't give any meaningful, unbiased information. Dog grooming, are you ***** me? Stop spamming Digg with this crap. - Barackalypse, on 12/01/2008, -4/+13As a worker who has dealt with these "equally educated and skilled workers" from overseas, let me assure you they are not equally educated, nor are they equally skilled, nor are they even harder working, they're simply willing to work cheaper. My company actually looked into outsourcing programming and decided it was actually no more expensive all things considered to keep development here in North America, rather than deal with the hassles of contract employees in time zones thousands of miles away who would never be able to meet the end users face to face.
- case8173, on 12/01/2008, -1/+10Yes, smart choice. Be a pharmacy technician or a teacher aide. That's where the money is.
(speaking as both a senior education major and a current pharmacy technician making a whopping $8/hr) - inactive, on 12/01/2008, -1/+10Jobs In The USA Experiencing Growth under Bush's economy:
napalm manufacturer,
body-bag manufacturer,
meth manufacturer,

NSA wire-monkey.
Hamburger "manufacturer"
Debt collector
Bankruptcy Attorney
gun dealer
drug dealer - smacksaw, on 12/01/2008, -0/+8Dentists can come in on H-1B and NAFTA. We don't let in non-skilled workers.
Whether it's a C# programmer or an RN, you can have people come in and take your job and drive down wages. But it's mainly specific fields of a BA/BS or higher.
Those jobs are mostly unskilled/trades. - smacksaw, on 12/01/2008, -0/+7Debt Collector
Corrections Officer
And anything related to those two. - smacksaw, on 12/01/2008, -0/+7How about sand erosion?
- maspaz, on 12/01/2008, -0/+6The message here kids is "aim low and whatever you do, don't even let the subject of NOT being an employee into the dialogue." What about being a small business owner? An independent contractor? Owe, sure! Perhaps 2 of these professions lend themselves to contracting out services, but this is just an extension of "high school is obedience training for human beings." If it wasn't wouldn't they teach Intro to Entrepreneurial Business, Accounting & Book keeping, marketing for small businesses, etc? So, cheer up everybody! This list is what you get to pick from. No mechanic, plumber or anyone else on that list that I know of ever made any real money until they went out on there own. Then the plumber started making $500K within 4 years of going out on his own (and he was also by that time a Master Plumber).
Yeah, I know some investment bankers and communications execs, insurance people who've made the big time, but they're constantly competing with their friends and wives/husbands at the dinner table. They have to learn to parrot the corporate brainwashing or they don't get promoted as quickly. I only know a few lawyers that seem truly happy and guess what? They don't work for a law firm.
You want happiness? Do what millions of Americans do: unyoke yourself and go into business for yourself. It won't be easy at first and the IRS and Congress are coming after the small business owner b/c apparently we're a threat to big business? *****, I can't think of a reason except to keep wildly successful small businesses from graduating to the big time. Nonetheless, I wouldn't have it any other way. ***** working for somebody else and having to suffer indignities b/c some middle mgmt ***** who was hired for his complicity and not his competence has a little power and now he will wield it like MIGHTY THOR! On the other hand, surrender to this author's suggestion and aim low and forever toil for an accounting machine that treats you like a variable which always has the profits subtracted from your input into the equation. - dddavid, on 12/01/2008, -0/+5Who the hell was this article targeted toward? They listed:
Dental Assistant, but not Dentist.
Teacher's Aide, but not Teacher.
Veterinarian's Assistant, but not Veterinarian.
For the same logic that each of those assitant jobs are good, the professional jobs that go with them are better. Which leads me to believe that some technical school compiled this list. - jackelopeus, on 12/01/2008, -0/+5Mortician
Obstetrician - passedoutghost, on 12/01/2008, -0/+5So lawyers can be outsourced huh?
- staticneuron, on 12/01/2008, -0/+5Not really. Because there are only a few target countries that seem to be the prime choice for outsourcing when it comes to telephone or IT services one would think india as the first option.
- blacktriangle, on 12/01/2008, -0/+513. Politician
14. Sewer Worker
15. Giz Mopper
16. Hat Salesman - algaeturd, on 12/01/2008, -3/+7This list is ***** for many reasons. There are LOTS Of jobs that absolutely can't be outsourced...these are the last ones I think of. Load of *****, who cares, yahoo sucks.
- nickpick, on 12/01/2008, -0/+4I was thinking the same thing. The article pretty much assumes that you're a not very qualified person.
- MrSteamTank, on 12/01/2008, -1/+5The problem is a weak education system. Unfortunately, many first world countries that suffer from outsourcing have high education costs. Many third world nations have completely free education. My family from Uruguay all got their education free and then got hired by companies first world nations due to lack of skilled workers(where oddly enough education isn't free). Why many countries like the United States, Britain, and Canada have expensive education is beyond me.
No wonder so many jobs get outsourced. - PiRATE7, on 12/01/2008, -0/+4Why a dental assistant and not the dentist? Whos gonna outsorce for a dentist?
- smacksaw, on 12/01/2008, -0/+4@kiwi2008
That's why you wouldn't get hired.
You need to watch this video. It's disgusting. Lawyers are slimeballs. You'll probably throw up a little bit in your mouth when you watch it.
http://www.networkworld.com/community/?q=node/1642 ...
Everyone does it. It's a scam. - Torx, on 12/01/2008, -1/+5Wow, thats an impressive list. Out of the thousands upon thousands of job types and levels, they impose this list??
- one2gamble, on 12/01/2008, -0/+4its interesting that most of those jobs suck
- rubaaan, on 12/01/2008, -0/+4blackwater.
- aladrin, on 12/01/2008, -0/+4Did you have a point?
- UIS4821, on 12/01/2008, -0/+4Did they really put Dog Groomer on this list? This is worthless!
- pavanb500, on 12/01/2008, -0/+4I hear Antarctica's untapped..
- kiwi2008, on 12/01/2008, -1/+4***** if I'd come in and drive down wages. That's just stupid. I want what everyone else is being paid, and probably a bit more too.
It's essentially the employer looking to increase profit margins by bringing in qualified people and paying them less than current staff. I don't buy the old "can't find qualified people here" line.
Dirty bastards.
Of course... that's the free market at work. Best to get the hell out if you see it happening where you work. Assuming that you're qualified enough to get a job somewhere else. If you're not - upskill quick. - LacY, on 12/01/2008, -0/+3Skilled workers, like MDs and scientists, etc who come here from overseas also don't drive down wages. They generally get paid what everyone else in the field is getting paid. Bus as aladrin said, if they live here, that's no "outsourcing".
- arkaycee, on 12/01/2008, -0/+3If Dell did plumbing...
"This is Dell plumbing support, I am Skip, how may I help you?"
"My toilet is leaking all over the bathroom floor. Please help."
"I am happy to assist you with that, Charles. First, you will need to have handy a pipe wrench, some plumber's tape, ..."
(back from hardware store, room is now an inch deep in toilet water)
"You say you have a third-party toilet seat? I'm very sorry, but Dell does not support third-party add-ons. Please contact the manufacturer of the toilet seat for more assistance. Thank you for calling Dell." - maspaz, on 12/01/2008, -0/+3Oh, right! I almost forgot! Ever try moving to another country? Apparently for someone to come to our country is pretty damn easy regardless of skill, trade or degrees (trust me, I know LOTS of immigrants). Us moving to another country on the other hand is pretty damn difficult. I'm not saying you can't do it, but if you're thinking of moving to, retiring to, setting up a business anywhere in Latin America, Europe or Asia get ready for the rectal inspection with regard to your finances, background, etc and you still will probably be denied. They don't want us moving to their countries, yet they come flooding in, be it virtually or physically. I say the relationship ought to be reciprocal no matter how they want it. Don't want to let us move to your country? Then get the ***** out of mine and let my friend have his job back.
- inajeep, on 12/01/2008, -0/+3Wanna bet, I believe a certain tsunami put a lot of them out of work and the are relocating to our beaches because we tend not to have tsunamis.
- aladrin, on 12/01/2008, -3/+6Why on Earth would you think you'd ever be qualified for more than 1 of them? They are all professional positions that require certifications or degrees. If you qualify for more than 1 of them, you've wasted some of your time.
Here's some more that won't be outsourced, just to make you feel better:
Janitor (Hard to clean the toilets from India!)
Street sweeper
Gardener
Teacher
Cashier
Cart pusher
Bag boy
Stock boy
Truck driver
Waiter
Short-order cook
Bus boy
There. I'm sure you're qualified for most of those. - sjbdallas, on 12/01/2008, -1/+4A little inaccurate in that just about any government job or contractor to the government has a good chance of not being outsourced as well.
- secrity, on 12/01/2008, -1/+4Didn't he have licensing issues?
- inactive, on 12/01/2008, -0/+3If people actually payed attention to this article, we would deserve to get our jobs outsourced.
- whorunbartertwn, on 12/01/2008, -0/+3I know plumbers can make more money than many people think but when he's a middle aged man crawling under sinks for a living with a sore back he won't be laughing quite as hard.
- pavanb500, on 12/01/2008, -0/+3Actually...for many types of dental work, it's cheaper to get on a plane, fly to India, go to one of the facilities that specialize in US Citizens, get the work done, stay at a 5 star hotel for a few days, ride a choo choo in 1st class, and fly back home! GF's dad spent about $6,000k for all of that vs. paying an endodontist about $11,000!
- smacksaw, on 12/01/2008, -0/+3You'd make that in 6 months in the trades.
- Whackly, on 12/01/2008, -0/+3Nothing like an article encouraging you to aim low.
Why be a pharmacist if you can be a pharmacy tech? It's just like being a pharmacist only without the high wage, benefits, job security, etc. -
