- xlivevilx, on 02/08/2008, -0/+38Ive been doing this with USAA for a few years now. some people say that it sux i dont have a brick and mortar bank i can walk into, and that i have to pay atm fees, but when i can deposit a check into my acount instantly 24/7/365 and my atm fees are refunded, its a win win situation
- mrjit, on 02/08/2008, -3/+32So did you ever get her on a date or did you just bank-stalk her?
- BlindingDawn, on 02/08/2008, -1/+18Bout time..
- TiMMY8765, on 02/08/2008, -0/+17yeah USAA is a pretty awesome bank
- UtahApocalyse, on 02/08/2008, -0/+16SO can I use my printer to get cash back?
- rnreekez, on 02/08/2008, -0/+16BS, I plan on using lens flare to make it look authentic.
- SEMaven, on 02/08/2008, -1/+16I've been doing that with my bank for over a year now. It's wonderful! Admittedly it's weird to be able to deposit money on a late Sat night or early Sunday morning in my PJ's.
- butzjr, on 02/08/2008, -0/+15USAA rocks. I've been using their online check deposit for over a year. I can do 100% of my business over the phone in less time than it would take to stand in line at a branch
- FirstDigg, on 02/08/2008, -1/+14I've been doing online-only banking for years, but still whenever I got a check I had to mail it in. This will cut down the week turn around time on that. I can't wait for this to be rolled out to my bank.
- Oldsmobile, on 02/08/2008, -2/+14This wonderful new technology has been in use in Europe for ages. It's called "not using checks at all" and is something we've been getting by with since the 1970's or so.
- zephyr42, on 02/08/2008, -0/+11I'd like to say that this is a terrible idea..... for those who don't know how to use photoshop
- ltethe, on 02/08/2008, -0/+10Like I noted in another comment. This has been used for over a year now with USAA, which is the bank of choice for military personnel and their relatives. It's a badass service, and was voted one of the best improvements to USAA of 2007 by members. This will totally take off, believe it.
- brinewr, on 02/08/2008, -0/+10I bank with USAA and have had this option for more than a year. It ROCKS!
- ltethe, on 02/08/2008, -0/+10I've been doing this for a year or two with USAA. Best bank in the world if you've got a relative who is in or has ever served in the armed services.
- mrjit, on 02/08/2008, -0/+9I love USAA!
- Modizzle, on 02/08/2008, -0/+9that guy is really enjoying his computer usage
- ChocoMidget, on 02/08/2008, -0/+8Just like always other banks follow in the path of USAA, first was the repaying of ATM fees, now online depositing. For those wondering it's a JAVA app for USAA and I believe you have to be using IE in order to insure the validity of your check. It's also instantly deposited, no waiting for it to clear.
- McBadger, on 02/08/2008, -0/+8USAA has been allowing people to do this for awhile. Granted you have to have military background or be directly related to military personel to get services from them. Glad the rest of the population gets to enjoy this.
- hilo4321, on 02/08/2008, -1/+8dugg for the smiling douche in the picture
- NorrisTwithman, on 02/08/2008, -0/+7Not that new, USAA has had this for a while now.
- yellekc, on 02/08/2008, -0/+7Another fan of USAA here. They have some of the best customers service of any company I have done business with. I can't think of a time I had to wait more than a minute or two to speak to a real and helpful person. When my "friend" payed off his debt with a bad chek, I was expecting to pay up the ass in fees, yet they only charged me $5.00. Not bad if you ask me. If you can't join USAA, join a credit union, banks usually suck for personal accounts.
- inactive, on 02/08/2008, -1/+8i wonder whether this will truly catch on in the general pub.... there are obviously measurements taken to prevent check fraud, but this seems to open a up a little bit more vulnerability..... though admittedly, i can't wait for this service to reach my bank
- Havs, on 02/08/2008, -0/+6Which bank do you belong to? I'm genuinely interested in doing this myself.
- oyflaaaayvin, on 02/08/2008, -0/+6Welcome to USAA over a year ago.
- inactive, on 02/08/2008, -4/+10This is a great service for convenience sake. I am no "flat earther" but I do miss the days when going to the bank to see my teller, Angie and catch up on what's going on in her world, vice versa. Hopefully, Angie will be doing data input, processing or they will utilize her skills so she can collect a pay check for processing someone else's. I remember she had two kids- I know the little girls name is Alyssa- I thinks the boys name was Josh- its been about 5 years since I banked there. I would hate to see this hurt a cool lady like that and her family in favor of some outsourced foreign processing company.
- edebolt, on 02/08/2008, -0/+5hello felony prison time
- winmywii, on 02/08/2008, -0/+5I have worked with CheckFree. Their software sucks.
- mattboston, on 02/08/2008, -0/+55 stars for USAA, I love their online banking
- fullback, on 02/08/2008, -1/+6It's hard to believe Americans are still using checks. I haven't even seen one in 20 years.
- borez, on 02/08/2008, -2/+6A cheque? Do people still use those things?
Cheque [English] - mrASSMAN, on 02/08/2008, -0/+4Dammit.. Wells Fargo needs to do this..
- usafdave, on 02/08/2008, -1/+4W00T! USAA. Vegas ATM with $4 surcharge? Meh. 7.9% APR credit card when I was 19? Check.
- gandhii, on 02/08/2008, -0/+3I'll add this little bit to the USAA fandom... When you use them for insurance, like all banks they invest the money you send them, but then every year they send you back a share of the proceeds.
- darkheartlor, on 02/08/2008, -0/+3Just wanted to give my USAA support. Love this bank, can't imagine ever banking with anyone else.
- arw371, on 02/08/2008, -2/+5I already have this with USAA.
- buddyw, on 02/08/2008, -0/+3USAA is freaking awesome. deposit checks at home, free ACH transfers (direct deposit) to other accounts/banks/people, Free Bill pay will mail a check to anyone for free, Free ATM up to $15/mo, 0.5% cash back on debit card purchases, free overdraft, and free cash advances from credit card to checking account.
and to top it all off - their customer service is fantastic.
Just TRY to beat that anywhere. - boxybrzown, on 02/08/2008, -0/+3Anybody know how they handle security on this? Wouldn't they need more than a front/back scan of the check to ensure that it's actually real?
- emom, on 02/08/2008, -1/+4Wwoooowwww - I NEED one!
- ltethe, on 02/08/2008, -0/+3I'm almost check free... Except for rent and health insurance, wtf? Rent has always stuck in my craw as being retarded... But I only recently learned that my insurance wouldn't accept online payments... Geesh... How damn retarded.
- zeiben, on 02/08/2008, -0/+3aww... now you're talking, baby. It's saturday night.... why don't we slip into our pajamas, pour us some chianti, and...ooooh....yeah....bank....
- ptsuk, on 02/08/2008, -2/+5What consumers really want is to not get dinged by f'n $3-4 dollar service charge for using the f'n ATM, which were installed to help out with long ass lines and overworked tellers, not to mention getting dinged for the same transaction by your own bank for $3-4 bucks.
A more reasonable charge of perhaps .50 cents to a $1 total either way should suffice any "maintence and supply costs" some banks that have ATM's right at their branch just walk over and fill up the machines from inside vs actually having to be "serviced" for ones like in a shopping malls food court. - mrASSMAN, on 02/08/2008, -0/+3A lot of people get paid with checks.
- zepner508, on 02/08/2008, -0/+3just writing to agree, USAA really is THAT good. they pick up in less than a minute, refund atm fees, great APRs, and theyre renters insurance is cheap. they also, gave me a high credit limit with no hassle at all. when i heard about the deposit @home from checkfree, i said, BFD, already got it, and have been telling everyone about them
- mattboston, on 02/08/2008, -0/+3USAA also reimburses ATM fees, that's one thing every other bank won't do
- jayhawk, on 02/08/2008, -0/+3DITTO! USAA banking is and has been very nice. i deposit all of my checks using their @home deposit service (scanning). easy peazy.
- zeiben, on 02/08/2008, -0/+3This is called "the end of paypal". Now I just email the e-bay guy a check and he forwards it to his bank. No fees. Eat that, paypal extortionists!!! (yeah, I know, processing time, but still....)
- jud420, on 02/08/2008, -0/+3every single other person that I meet that uses USAA loves them. Even the people closing my mortgage said they loved USAA because they send 1/3 of the paperwork other lenders send in a closing package. Deposit@home, awesome customer service, and the fact that I can get a loan or credit increase in about 2 minutes over the phone. Brick & Mortar banks could learn a whole helluva lot from USAA.
- timf, on 02/08/2008, -1/+3Wire transfers don't usually have fees in Europe.
- insaneferret, on 02/08/2008, -0/+2I work for Chase bank and we have a similar but slightly more secure feature being built into many of our ATMs, the ATM machine can directly scan checks for deposit, which goes through the same day and the checks are sprayed with your account number and collected in a bin for review by a human being later. You can also view the images of checks scanned by the ATM or by a Teller through online banking after they go through to detect any tampering. Apologies if it sounds like an advert, but I think its a cool and free service we offer, maybe not as convenient as doing it naked at home, but just as secure as going to a branch and lining up.
