- sbgunn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+46I hate Forbes' layout:
1) Cadillac Escalade EXT pickup
2) BMW 7 Series long-wheelbase sedan
3) Land Rover Range Rover SUV (tie)
3) Lincoln Navigator four-wheel-drive SUV (tie)
4) Lexus GS sedan
5) Mercedes-Benz S-Class long-wheelbase sedan
6) Mercedes-Benz SL-Class convertible - Soulglow, on 10/12/2007, -4/+47luckily no one feels sorry for Escalade drivers.
- noots, on 10/12/2007, -2/+34***** forbes and it's ***** listing method. I got to page 3 and closed it.
- stalky14, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26> I remember seeing an article some time back about how the average income of an Escalade owner is less than $30k.
That would be their REPORTED income... ;^) - archlich, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26One page please, we have scroll bars and mouse wheels now.
- yhvdyt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23My M.D. drives an Escalade. One day he was being followed closely by the police (probably checking his plate). He pulled into a parking lot and they followed him. He asked if anything was wrong. They asked if he had any drugs to sell. He got a big grin and said "you could possibly say that, I'm a doctor". They told him that Escalades were the drug dealer's favorite....
- Scopitone, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20Thanks hip hop!
... - oskite, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16"luckily no one feels sorry for Escalade drivers."
Tru dat. - ibeetle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Woo Hoo!!! My '86 Taurus did not make the list. Thank goodness too. Only 3 more payments and that smoke'n hot sedan is mine.
- ExSlashdotter, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14@archlich
That may be true, but they've got ads, and they want you to see them... - brufleth, on 10/12/2007, -6/+15Are there a disproportionate number of Escalades owned by people who make relatively little money? I remember seeing an article some time back about how the average income of an Escalade owner is less than $30k.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8What a poorly written article, it was truly a chore trying to read which cars were the ones.
- tracerrx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8@wdoyle0447
No Debt, No Lease : )
But I do have a 1 hour + commute every morning and evening... I would much rather do it in my lexus, than your truck
: ) - GawtMilk, on 10/12/2007, -12/+18My friend's parents have Escalades. Two. How can we progress as a race if people are buying cars that just shout, "I'm weak and rich. I've also got a small penis. Please, abuse me as you see fit"? It's just not fair to people who are prone to temptation to own cars like that.
- BigglesPiP, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Only one good car in the bunch, thus proving that car thieves are really really stupid.
- xienze, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Hmm, the Escalade, BMW 7 Series, and Mercedes S Class... all cars that are heavily "rapped about". Wonder who's stealing those cars...
- n8r0n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This is why I own a Carmeleon...
- xDibblerx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3These links the forbes.com are really irritating me. Why do they have to have all their list in a slide show? Jesus Christ, just show me the damn list because like most readers of forbes and the internet, I know how to read and write.
- fuggo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"This is funny to me because I just bought a new mx-5 miata. It's defiantly no 'luxury car' "
The typo in that sentence made me giggle. Slightly appropriate in a napoleon complex sorta way. - wdoyle0447, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Every time I see a luxury car it just makes me wonder how much debt that person/family is in. I know some people can pay cash but I would guess most end up with a nasty loan to fulfill their luxury car needs.
Personally my compact truck gets me from A to B cheaply, insurance is cheap, is reliable, easy for me to work on, and I don't have to worry about a lien holder coming to repossess my $800/month car. Since my truck looks like nothing special, no one thinks twice about breaking into it, or taking it. Sure I could go get that M3 that I've always wanted but with a social security system that is moving toward failure I am better served saving/investing the money. - BigglesPiP, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Fair point, it means the people that buy stolen cars are really really stupid. That or they have the taste of rover driver, but more money.
- Cory70, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ad blocker pRo FTW!
- 0crabby0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've canceled my subscription to the magazine, over this listing method.
Actually, it expired.... But I'm not renewing! lol - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I wanted to read that article, but the ad with that ***** talking about investments was so distracting I had to exit my browser. I hope nobody steals my luxury 86 ford LTD. *****'s got power steering
- BigSlacker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I like this part:
.....
"Each carmaker on the list earlier this week received an e-mail explaining the HLDI report's scope and methodology and asking for comment. By presstime, only one had responded."
"Without knowing the scope and methodology of the HLDI study," wrote Toyota Motor (nyse: TM - news - people ) spokesman Wade Hoyt.
....
So, the only one that responded didn't even read it? It's like a digg article link. - BigSlacker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I always buy my cars with cash or if I can't for some reason, get a loan off a non-depreciating asset. I'm not even really in the Luxury car zone. I generally want to stay under $40K for a new car. I think
you'll find people that buy these high end cars are relatively smart about money and loans unless they inherited their assets or went to medical school. - trev0006, on 02/27/2008, -0/+1These lists always surprise me, but I guess they steal the cars for the parts http://www.dpccars.com/
- SinisterStairs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"The seven vehicles we have showcased in this feature are not necessarily the luxury cars that are stolen in the greatest numbers...[and] we looked at only one model per nameplate: the one with the highest rate."
- ffejrey, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2These are luxury cars...as in they get more money on the black market.
- tracerrx, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Cry...
Mines # 4 (Lexus GS 450h)
Damn It All To Hell... My insurance agent mentioned this too... arghhhhh - MannyHills, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Can anyone tell me how these cars mainly got stolen? I'd like to know since you can't just hot wire these cars. You would either need to carjack them, possibly use a pick-up truck, or do some stuff like in "Gone in 60 seconds" where you somehow get copies of the keys using some fraud method. All of which don't seem so easy to me. So anyone know about this?
- manbear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wow, you have an 86 Taurus...where was it that you live again?
- alienfubar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is funny to me because I just bought a new mx-5 miata. It's defiantly no 'luxury car' by any means, but it is a convertible and it's shiny. I have had several comments by the neighbors that we must be rolling in the $$$. The other month my wife bought a new-used 06 explorer. So for the price of one Escalade we have two new cars. :)
I traded a Focus in for the Miata. I pay more a month for the Miata, but it's much more fun to drive.. and insurance was cheaper! - BigSlacker, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Or maybe the thieves are just smarter than you about the value of the cars?
- roosterjm2k2, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2If you want to know which cars will be stolen the most, watch rap videos. The vehicles that are glamorized in the rap culture have been at the top of the list for stolen cars for a while now.
Its not a racist thing, as white men are more likely to steal a car than black men statistically, but it is a culture thing. - Humptydank, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2
"Cadillac's recently overhauled $56,000 Escalade SUV is hotter than ever..."
As is the earth. - pbellbear, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0dude where my car?
- JorgeGonzalez, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I was driving the other day and saw a stereotypical black rapper guy in a H3 by himself. I raised an eyebrow.
- hjduk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Who the hell wants to steal american cars!? :P. Ferrairis, Lambos and Porches surely.
- osbjmg, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Well I would say the Mercedes SL is practical sometimes, if you have no friends. Other than that, you're right it's the 7 series and everything else is crap.
- V3X3D, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1"Mercedes-Benz SL-Class convertible : Hot amenities: Powerful xenon headlights. Electronic trunk closer."
Couldnt they mention anything more value such as the beastyengine ? - catfish182, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2dug for not seeing a "dude where's my car comment"
- tarquell, on 10/12/2007, -12/+4its strange becasue ~56,000 US = £28,000...i wouldn't really say that would scream 'rich'...you need something 2x that for that kind of tag here in Europe...... we rented a Cadillac escalade once in cali, it was OK, but all american interiors generally suck....plus the thing was rubbish to drive! gimme a Audi Q7 any day!....
- oskite, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2Bah, forgot to reply to the thread. But instead of the typical 'digg me down', I'm gonna be a renegade and tell people to digg me up. Fight the power, man.
