- timmyduboy, on 07/21/2009, -7/+361. Hire Women
2. Pay them less
3. ???
4. Profit - ivankraszl, on 07/20/2009, -1/+24It's not just women. Any diversity breeds ideas and ideas bring profit. Hire people from different cultural backgrounds not just different sexes.
- AlexAmore, on 07/21/2009, -7/+25And how do we know these economic scientists touting this propaganda haven't been bribed by some woman who let them touch her boobie for their first time?
- Aroundtown27, on 07/21/2009, -0/+14That's because you're running a crack cooking operation.
- jitterbits, on 07/21/2009, -0/+11Considering the fact that children are a product of both men and women, wouldn't the solution be to make paternal leave more available and encourage men to participate in their children's lives equally?
- LibertariansLOL, on 07/21/2009, -2/+11THIS ARTICLE SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD PLACE TO LEAVE SOME PASSIVE SEXISM
- Spyder2k, on 07/21/2009, -1/+9Let's be real here; it because they work harder to get there, and work harder to stay there.
- Contrarius, on 07/21/2009, -6/+13Correlation != Causation
- mrpunman, on 07/21/2009, -15/+21I personally find that more women in the kitchen = more profits
- tommasz, on 07/21/2009, -3/+9I work for a company that has had two female CEOs in a row now. The first one essentially saved the company from oblivion caused by the bungling of a handpicked male CEO who reorganized the salesforce into such disorder they were unable to sell. The male CEO who picked him oversaw widespread financial misdealings that resulted in criminal proceeding for the CFO and a place in the Accounting Hall of Shame.
Anecdotal, perhaps, but it's hard to argue with success. - Aroundtown27, on 07/21/2009, -0/+6You don't need the ??? anymore... the article just pointed out that number 3 is put women in senior management positions.
- rocknog, on 07/21/2009, -0/+5Sounds to me that the real issue here is that diversity decreases the risk of groupthink.
- apetrie, on 07/21/2009, -5/+10Its hilarious how when the results of a study imply that men are naturally better than women at something, the article is full of comments about how women shouldn't get offended, thats just the way it is! I mean, we're naturally different and have our strengths and blah blah blah. When a study implies that women may be naturally better at something, well its just a coincidence naturally! Correlation != causation! It can't be because women are naturally talented in these areas, no no.. its got to somehow be a product of discrimination or political correctness.
Especially charming is the ***** anecdotal evidence about how women can't make better managers because you've known some stupid women in your workplaces. Personally I don't think I'm the management type, and I have no opinion about women or men making better managers, my experience is limited having only worked under a few of them so far. The hypocrisy and thinly vieled sexism in these comments are just ridiculous though! - bender240, on 07/21/2009, -0/+4This only makes sense, as it doubles the potential pool of very intelligent/efficient people. I've always argued that market forces would help break the glass ceiling... do corporate executives love their old boys' clubs so much they're willing to turn down $$$ and put themselves at a competitive disadvantage? Nope, not in the long run me thinks.
- doctressjulia, on 07/21/2009, -0/+4What you said. THANK YOU.
- schnabeltasse, on 07/21/2009, -8/+11Personally I think people draw the wrong conclusions from these findings, because they want to fit it into their politically correct world view of the 70s...Hello people, wake up! This is the 21st century!!
The studies show that only companies that make a lot of money can afford women in senior management roles!
Good business is about satisfying customer demand & making a profit - not related to gender at all.
As a shareholder,I don't care about your gender, race, religion, etc. Make me some profit! If you need a diverse workforce to make that happen, fine! But a diverse range of people will not make a successful business!! It is a diverse range of minds focussing on the same goal - male or female, black or green, straight or lesbian, doesn't matter!
It's about personality and not all these PC criteria!
"Pepperdine found that the Fortune 500 firms with the best records of putting women at the top were 18 to 69 percent more profitable than the median companies in their industries."
->No, they found that the more profitable they are the more they can afford to cater to all sorts of demands - it's good PR to have female executives, let's do it, we can afford it!
"Catalyst, a research firm focused on women and business, found that Fortune 500 companies with three or more women in senior management positions score higher on top measures of organizational excellence. In addition, companies with three or more women on their boards outperformed the competition on all measures by at least 40 percent."
-> Same here
"Organizations such as Columbia University, McKinsey & Co., Goldman Sachs, and Pepperdine University, have done research that document a clear relationship between women in senior management and corporate financial success."
-> 100% correct!
For me to prove that women are better at making money I would look at the profitability of female startups vs male startups after a certain period of time, let's say two years. Who makes more money? To compare established businesses seems wrong. It is easy to take over a good business, but it is hard to create one. - X9001, on 07/21/2009, -0/+3Passive?
- nepidae, on 07/21/2009, -0/+3in golf, below par is good.
- Konrad9, on 07/21/2009, -2/+5http://blog.marcelopedrosa.com/wp-content/uploads/ ...
(It's from a spanish site because I couldn't find the demotivational version) - doctressjulia, on 07/21/2009, -0/+2YES.
- faskippy, on 07/21/2009, -1/+3Shut the ***** up, bitch. And get back to the oil change while you're at it.
- Paulish, on 07/21/2009, -0/+2Trying using the "!" a little less and the "." a little more.
But good point. - swamp916, on 07/22/2009, -1/+3wow nice useless job anecdotes and sexist comments guys... the article wasn't even that offensive men sure can't take what they dish out.
- nepidae, on 07/21/2009, -1/+3The only thing that shows is that women can be successful as well, something that at this point I hope shouldn't be in question.
- spookyturtle, on 07/21/2009, -0/+2I logged in to say just that, but you already did. Kudos for adding this to the mess of comments that is sure to come.
- macplenty, on 07/21/2009, -1/+3Does Oprah not count either?
- rocknog, on 07/21/2009, -1/+3True... Maybe having women in senior management positions is simply an indicator that the company is more willing to think outside the box, or it could be something else entirely.
- keraneuology, on 07/21/2009, -2/+3Must be true... look how it worked out for HP.
- nepidae, on 07/21/2009, -1/+2The title is wrong, the summary isn't (in regards to correlation and causation, I have no clue if the findings are correct or not).
- phrozunsun, on 07/24/2009, -1/+2punch her in the ovaries.
- doctressjulia, on 07/21/2009, -0/+1That's Jim Croce, youngster.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Croce - timmyduboy, on 07/21/2009, -0/+1that's if you consider number 4 monetary profits and not "profit"
- slashdotordigg, on 07/23/2009, -1/+2Good try feminists. More reason why upper management have nothing to do with productivity. I can say this this blunt b/c i know there is no woman in here on digg. Muhahahaha!!
- Elranzer, on 07/21/2009, -2/+1More gay men in executive positions = less corruption from women who think their vagina is the key to getting anything they want
- BackgroundNow, on 07/23/2009, -2/+2After 6-years of background checks it's obvious, women are the superior gender.
- ByteMeAHole, on 07/21/2009, -5/+4Buried as bogus
- inactive, on 07/21/2009, -2/+2It could just be that it is harder for women to get into management positions, so when they do have one they are far better than the average man. Comparing the top 1% of women to the top 5% of men isn't fair.
This is just one reason of many already mentioned why this article is dumb. - anakast, on 07/21/2009, -4/+3I don't think it's accurate to simply say that 'more women in senior management = more profits' since all the studies and observations that make this point use businesses where women are under-represented anyway. Work places that are dominated/over-represented by women such as parts of the public sector have their fair share of financial problems. In fact most of the research points towards gender parity (not just in mangement either) being the factor here that contributes to overall financial stability and success.
- Xzelick, on 07/21/2009, -1/+0I think that the Hire Women step covers putting them in senior management positions, why would you hire someone and then not know what job you hired them for?
- 2uantuM, on 07/21/2009, -1/+1http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glass_ceiling
- mardraum, on 07/21/2009, -4/+3news stories like this are always cool until you learn about stats and econometrics and all that, then it's just depressing that most people still believe them all.
- Chirp08, on 07/21/2009, -3/+2You tell her you'll be right back, walk down to HR and tell them she is crying and you don't know what to do, go back to work.
- Enlightenment, on 07/21/2009, -4/+3Shut the ***** up...and get back to work. :)
- miggie, on 07/21/2009, -2/+1It's by Jim Crowshe ( I think I got his last name missed spelled.) He died in the early 70's
- XZanatos, on 07/21/2009, -2/+1Is that all you can come up with? What do you think it is then? Just parroting a common phrase over again doesn't prove anything either way.
- nepidae, on 07/21/2009, -3/+2that's a fallacy
- ahben, on 07/21/2009, -2/+1I agree completely. At ahben.com we are doing the same.
- bubbadigg, on 07/21/2009, -2/+1Well at my company, diversity is just an excuse for hiring minorities into jobs that they are not qualified for.
- ahben, on 07/21/2009, -2/+1I agree completely. At ahben.com we are doing the same.
- anakast, on 07/21/2009, -5/+3Well yeah, there's a reason men dominate all the top rich lists and self-made millionaire/billionaire lists; we take the risks necessary to get there in the first place.
