- royalecraig, on 06/03/2009, -5/+11It is slavery, you should all sue your Congressman / woman
Why Borrow money from Offshore Bankers ( through the issuance of Govt Bonds ) when you as Nation could simply coin it yourselves, FREE of charge and issue that into your economy.
No Loan nor interest to Pay back, therefore no Govt debt, no Govt Debt, absolutely no need for an Income tax.

I mean, uh, bosses. - chupavacas, on 06/03/2009, -1/+6So in summation, don't fear. Sounds simple enough.

- Waiting2awake, on 06/04/2009, -1/+5 Slavery in its overt form is easy to spot, and the west has primarily been against such things. We tend to see the notion of one human "owning" another human as wrong, dispicable and inhumane. Historically, the slaves were worked, and their needs provided for them. Basic food, water and shelter was all they got for their labour. If they failed to do their jobs they were beaten, and further humiliated.
Yet what do we, generally, have today? Isn't it merely covert slavery? What the slaves did for free - labour - we do for money. What the slaves got for free - food, water, shelter - we pay for from the money we earned from our labour.
Just saying. - minorthreat, on 06/04/2009, -0/+4I'm under no illusion. Companies make products so expensive the average person can't afford them... they then set him up with a low payment plan to take even more money from him. If you call deceiving and stealing from the poor as free market then you could be correct.
Craigslist is a free market. Playing with corporations is not.. Of course they set the prices. They have enough captial and access to loans that they don't need to lower price as demand lowers. They can just sit on the goods until someone comes along and pays the premium. - inactive, on 06/04/2009, -0/+3dugg *)

- mikbunn, on 06/04/2009, -0/+3Forgive my ignorance, but where would the government get its money without income tax? From your post I gather that the government would print money to finance its actions, causing more money to go into circulation, and causing inflation. I think you assume that by not having income tax burdening the populace, there would be economic growth to counterbalance the inflation.
You also seem to assume that the government only spends money on interest.
There must be taxes somewhere in your equation (I assume you'd like a flat tax, which completely cripples the poor.)
I really don't understand a lot of your crazily capitalized post. - MarkBrent, on 06/04/2009, -0/+2dugg

- inactive, on 06/04/2009, -1/+3Uh, yeah... when countries print their own money it's never had any adverse effects. Just ask Zimbabwe, Weimar Germany, etc. It's called the inflation tax if done right (it's basically a tax on people whose money gets rapidly devalued), when done wrong it's called a hyperinflation and it's a massive disaster.
- PWoT, on 06/04/2009, -0/+2You need to look up the word "slavery" in the dictionary. The word does not mean what you think it means.

- DaigojiGai, on 06/04/2009, -0/+1LOL, well said.
- Waiting2awake, on 06/04/2009, -0/+1or... the government could, I don't know - live within the means of the current tax revenue system? Taxation is the most sacred trust - or at least it started out that way.
The second the governments goes beyond that, they are making the next generation of new taxpayers pay for something they essentially had no hand in creating - a taxation without representation. Which was at one point in time a rather important aspect of being American.
It isn't taxation per se that is bad, it is out of control taxation that puts burdens and levies against people that weren't consulted and whose interests weren't considered.
but that is just my opinion - Animental, on 06/04/2009, -1/+2I just watched the "Dirty Hands" episode of BSG. Strange that I saw this article right after.
- Waiting2awake, on 06/04/2009, -0/+1 How many people on min. wage can open their own legal business? How do you get the capital, when all the money is being spent on food?
Slaves were bought and sold, as employee's move from job to job - but they are still caught in a cycle of having to work to provide for necessities, that the slave was freely given. Point still stands even if you can't see it.
Capitalism isn't equal to slavery - I didn't say that it did - I said the current system is similar to the owner-slave system. That it was merely a change from physically controlling people, which people can see, feel and react to on a personal level(and tend to react badly), to a covert one where money and government policies control the way people interact and the people are none the wiser. - Korgil, on 06/04/2009, -1/+2That was just retarded. I own money and am not in debt. The only way you can consider money the same as slavery is if your a freaking materialistic moron who spends beyond their means and doesn't want to declare bankruptcy to get out of it.
What the hell does he mean by if there was no debt there would be no money.... just stupid...
If I was actually enslaved I wouldn't be able to quite my job freely and go live in the mountains or do what ever I want... - inactive, on 06/04/2009, -0/+1Where did I say that his business practices are OK, or where did I mention anything about corporate bosses making over 500k a year? You'll find nothing of the sort in my comment. You appear to be calling me a hypocrite for arguments I didn't make. It's so lame that nobody even replies to your arguments anymore... they make up something you didn't say then go into a rage over that. What the hell?
- inactive, on 06/04/2009, -2/+2Did you know he's one of the only billionaires whose net worths is up during the past year? Hate him all you want but he's pretty smart with his money.
I don't like or dislike his personal politics for the record... don't really even know them other than that they're supposed to be liberal. - BillE3, on 06/04/2009, -3/+3If a liberal rapes the economy and earns over a million dollars a day it is OK, just because he is liberal. If a corporate boss makes over 500 thousand a year, he is a villan and should have his pay cut to no more than 250 thousand a year. Once again, hypocrites.
During sworn testimony before the senate regarding speculation on oil futures and housing, George Soros addmitted he was earning over a million dollars a day. - krellor, on 06/04/2009, -2/+2Lets see, I paid cash for my car, no financing. I have 1 credit card and it is payed off in full every two weeks so I get decent rewards and pay 0% interest. I have good savings, investments, and retirement accounts. The only thing I have to finance is a house purchase, and I bank with a member owned credit union, so I am getting a fair rate and am able to vote for the CU leadership. Don't really feel like a financial slave here. In fact, I have enough reward points on my credit card to go hang gliding now, something I wouldn't have spent the money for on my own.
People can complain about the financial system being unfair all they want, but ultimately they are letting themselves being taken advantage of. I came from a poor family. Both my parents started off as janitors and our family lived in a 14' single wide. I paid my way through college, taking as few student loans as possible, and generally working hard and being smart with my money. If people are being taken advantage of, it is because they lack either the drive or the savvy to prevent it.
Comparing working a paid job to past forms of slavery is just ridiculous. I can go on vacations. I could go live in the woods as a hermit and hunt and gather. No one is forcing you to do anything, hence no slavery. - mikbunn, on 06/04/2009, -1/+1No.
If you truly can't see a MAJOR difference between slavery and capitalism, you're retarded. How many slaves were allowed to open their own plantation, or move to another master who gave better shelter/food of their own volition? - Waiting2awake, on 06/04/2009, -2/+1If the money is backed by something tangible, that has value equal to the denomination of the currency, then there is no issue.
As it stands the money being printed is backed by the ability to tax future generations.
