- xenex11, on 03/12/2009, -1/+45It's not the "forbes saint list" it's the forbes RICH list.
I'm sure this guy's not the only one on that list with blood on his hands! - ChronicColonic, on 03/12/2009, -4/+36Role model!
- Surferess, on 03/12/2009, -2/+26Man of the year!
- savethehobos, on 03/12/2009, -2/+24End the war on drugs. Enough said.
- peestandingup, on 03/12/2009, -3/+24I bet 50% of his fortune comes from marijuana that makes its way across the border.
Way to go, America! Keep up that prohibition on a plant. You got drug lords to keep in business. - HurricaneDC, on 03/12/2009, -0/+20The idea behind legalizing drugs (I'd be fine with legalizing marijuana, but cocaine and heroine and the like are still a hard sell for me) is that people would rather go to the corner store and buy some Marlboro No. 420 blends than deal with shady characters in dimly-lit streets. The government would get a share through tax, and local farmers would get money. Nothing going through to criminal cartels.
And before someone says "why wouldn't people keep getting it for cheap through the cartels"... people got alcohol illegally when it was banned with prohibition. Once prohibition was lifted, guess what? People bought it legally. - solmakou, on 03/12/2009, -0/+11Trick07 please think before you post...
- neocr0n, on 03/12/2009, -2/+13This is nothing new Pablo Escobar was 7th on forbes rich list 1989 with estimated personal wealth of $25 billion.
- CopsSayLegalize, on 03/12/2009, -0/+10A great demonstration of the dangerous failure that the "war on drugs" is. It's no wonder that cops who have been on the front lines of this war and now saying it is time to legalize to put these violent thugs out of business: http://www.CopsSayLegalizeDrugs.com
- kanabiis, on 03/12/2009, -0/+9The only outcome of the drug war, Rich ass murderers and piles of dead people.
Your tax dollars at work, pushing the anti-drug agenda on every country in the world.
Soon Mexico will just be run by the drug cartels, and it will be business as usual.
But remember kids, just say NO..... Yea! - mrdog, on 03/12/2009, -0/+8yay another movie to watch :D
- peestandingup, on 03/12/2009, -0/+7Learn to read, retard. It just says that 90% of cocaine comes from Mexico & that he's a big provider of it. Not that he's responsible for all of that 90%.
"The Mexican smuggler is basically one of the biggest providers of cocaine to the United States."
"About 90 percent of all cocaine consumed in the United States comes through Mexico." - iamghost, on 03/12/2009, -1/+8The more money you have the more people you can buy.
- D1Foley, on 03/12/2009, -1/+7They aren't making a role model of him, they are just stating fact. His net worth could be way more than a billion but we'll never know because he doesn't have to report his earnings.
- Ninjapope, on 03/12/2009, -1/+7If by "blood" you mean blood, then yeah.
- bradspangler, on 03/12/2009, -2/+8He's killed far fewer people than the typical U.S. president does these days.
- supernovasky, on 03/12/2009, -0/+6Logic = Fail.
- PapaCrown, on 03/12/2009, -0/+5Considering the second richest man in the world is mexican, I would doubt this can be considered progress.
- solmakou, on 03/12/2009, -1/+6If by "if by "blood" you mean drug" you mean random incoherent sentence.
- PhilliesBlunt, on 03/12/2009, -0/+5Haven't you ever heard of the Blue Screen of Death? That's all Gates.

- ASfinkterSezWut, on 03/12/2009, -0/+4Have you SEEN the body-count from DOW Chemical? Big Pharma? Shell Oil?
Big Business kills thousands with impunity yearly. - gomez1, on 03/12/2009, -0/+4He owns a couple of towns, I'm sure he goes out whenever he wants.
- DarthTater, on 03/12/2009, -0/+3From another article :
"His wedding in 2007 to his 18-year-old wife was so heavily guarded that the Mexican army did not attempt to arrest the groom. "
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/7938904.stm
So, he probably can go out for special events. - PhilliesBlunt, on 03/12/2009, -0/+3Legalizing it would end all of these stories.
- popstation, on 03/12/2009, -4/+7Mexico is making progress
- arplayer2k, on 03/12/2009, -0/+3It also doesn't say that the 90% cocaine is 90% of the drugs we get from Mexico.
- Licurgo, on 03/12/2009, -2/+5a life support system on a hospital was running on windows and then he got a blue screen and the patient died, and warren buffet, that's hard,mmmmmm... how many people has died cutting his wrists with the razor blades his company sells?
- pootpoot, on 03/12/2009, -0/+3One of my professors talked about this program where they would incentivize drug abusers in getting their drugs at a clinc. By doing so, they effectively removed the middle man (the dealer) out of the picture. As a result, they found that these drug abusers were less likely to take harder drugs because there wasn't a dealer around to push those drugs on him/her.
The same remarkable result should follow for marijuana legalization. I forgot what the program was called, but I believed they canceled it because some politician didn't want his name attached to such a "controversial" program. In short, marijuana legalization can have positive effects along with being a boon for the economy. - inactive, on 03/12/2009, -0/+3see guys, set your mind to it and you can do anything
- ASfinkterSezWut, on 03/12/2009, -1/+4The Price would actually go DOWN in a legalized Marijuana market - part of the price you are paying is the "risk" associated with production and distribution.
- AddiX, on 03/12/2009, -1/+3What we really need to be asking ourselves is who the hell is he selling his wholesale drugs too? If he has 1 billion in profit, thats all from selling wholesale to the U.S. That's A LOT of weight to move. Breaking down that much product would take some serious connections in the U.S. Seriously, I cant remember the last time someone in the U.S. was convicted of smuggling in that type of weight.
The government and media likes to make it look and sound like its the people on the corner who are the problem. Yet they are probably like the 100th person to even get the product. Make no mistake about it, this is well run business that isn't going anywhere. - Diggworthy, on 03/12/2009, -0/+2If Michael Phelps was quoted saying this guy was successful, Kellogg would probably cut him for that too yet Forbes can put this guy on the Forbes Richest list?
Forbes clearly knows his money is from trafficking drugs so whats with glorifying this? - militaryminds, on 03/12/2009, -2/+4whats the point of so much money, when you cant go out in the public and show it off? I doubt he could ever roll around in a lambo on the streets.
- ChristianSamano, on 03/12/2009, -0/+2This kind of people is making my country a war zone. Right now in Veracruz there is a wave of violence that keeps everyone in fear of being kidnapped, raped or even killed. I'm really worried about this situation at the point I'm thinking on leave the country with my family.

- DarthTater, on 03/12/2009, -0/+2I read thats as much as 90% of weapons get in Mexico illegally from the U.S.
- dvd101x, on 03/12/2009, -2/+4Just for you to know, the drug cartels in Mexico sell most of the drug to the U.S. and they operate with weapons the U.S. mobs sell back. Mexico has a really bad situation fighting drugs and U.S. endorses the use of guns which is making easier to get them illegally in México.
drugs for guns - insertnewsn, on 03/12/2009, -0/+2If all news outlets were Digg, Marijuana legalization would be the only topic ever covered, and it would probably be legalized by now. It's amazing how many Pro-Pot stories have made the front page the last 1-2 years.
I know this is about a rich Mexican drug lord, and now Marijuana..but still. - blunted1, on 03/12/2009, -0/+2FYI...

- StarchildSF, on 03/13/2009, -0/+1The public seems to be increasingly waking up to the fact that the War on Drugs is a failure that is no longer affordable. Another Digg story currently in rotation reports that 65% of people in Connecticut were polled favoring the decriminalization of marijuana. In Afghanistan, prohibition of opium could well result in the U.S.-led coalition losing the war against the repressive Islamic fundamentalist Taliban insurgency, because like Guzman and his Sinaloa cartel in Mexico, they are raking in money from trafficking banned drugs. Meanwhile, U.S. prisons are bursting at the seams, and the so-called "land of the free" leads the world in the number of people behind bars per capita. What a tragic and senseless situation. Please vote Libertarian to stop the madness. http://www.lp.org
- RAZAHCUTZ, on 03/12/2009, -0/+1***** rediculous.....America needs to reform their drug laws immediately....Mexico is suffering highly.....I don't think people should be elevating this guy either, don't care how paid he is, he is destroying hs own people and people in America.....he is a product of Americans thirst for cheap heiroin and weed....
