- badqat, on 11/01/2009, -2/+48The quote from the attorney is oh so telling - "a social movement with cash flow."
Take a look at the figures, and tell me there aren't billions to be made from marijuana as an industry. Legalized marijuana would result in a nationwide economic boom, at least in states that embraced it.
And that's not just for medicinal or recreational use - hemp can be used for so many items it's untold where it will be applied.
What's amazing to me concerning the curious case of California - how medical marijuana is treated in the bay area stands in stark contrast to San Diego - and at some point, the state needs to get San Diego and Los Angeles counties in line. - BluZebra, on 11/02/2009, -1/+22I would love to see this fine, fine plant being legalized in my lifetime.
Smoking nearly daily for a good 5-6 years. I'm still as good of a computer programmer as ever. 3.83 GPA in college, and a job lined up for 40k/year as a programmer before I'm 20 years old.
I see nothing wrong with wanting to relax with a bit of bud after work/school. - TJ11240, on 11/01/2009, -2/+23This is an issue of human liberties. The rest is gravy.
- ldsan, on 11/02/2009, -2/+13"...you know...democrats."
that's rich, for a moment i thought this guy was being serious
actually, he probably was. what a ***** penis. - Propethic, on 11/02/2009, -2/+13So all those poor rednecks doing meth are democrats?
- mechfluff, on 11/02/2009, -1/+11obvious troll is obvious
- LinuxPerson, on 11/02/2009, -4/+13Interesting theory you've got but from my experience, poor people are usually popping pills that medicare pays for. Weed is expensive, especially the goods, and medicare most certainly won't pay for that.
Plus, pain killers are the preferred method of getting ***** up for dumb *****... you know... like Rush Limbaugh. - zlatinb, on 11/02/2009, -1/+8That is, until your future employer figures out your user name on digg and reads this comment...
- ldsan, on 11/02/2009, -1/+8just say yes
- fury420, on 11/02/2009, -1/+6What about the medical marijuana users that use methods of ingestion that do not get them "high"?
Do they "just want to get high" as well?
Smoking marijuana is just the "fun" way to consume it, there are other methods that are far more effective when using for medical reasons.
Oh, as for "actual science", your conclusions read more like a report from the U.S. D.E.A than anything close to independent research & results. - srs2000, on 11/02/2009, -1/+5"Marijuana laws spur small businesses in Oakland, elsewhere"
Anyone else immediately think of little convenience stores and pizza places? I know I did...
Now I am hungry. - MrSteamTank, on 11/02/2009, -1/+5It's pretty obvious that first states to legalize pot completely will get TONS of cash from the other states that come to buy from it. It's like Nevada living off of the illegalities of other states.
Hopefully, seeing a few states get rich will spur the other states into action when it comes to these ridiculous drug laws. - MarkOfTheDead, on 11/02/2009, -1/+5I wouldn't want to work for a closed minded dick that would be harvesting for dirt on me from the internet anyway, I'm sure BluZebra doesn't either.
- Yez70, on 11/02/2009, -1/+5It's more about propping up the judicial system, in particular: the for-profit prisons and rehab centers.
- clipnastier, on 11/02/2009, -1/+4Everytime I hear Oaksterdam University I re-think my educational path.
- anthropodeus, on 11/02/2009, -1/+4LEGALIZE IT
- heavyj1970, on 11/02/2009, -1/+4Dugg for "Hempire" :)
- guanyin, on 11/02/2009, -0/+2 Mother Mary comin' to save America! What the people need is motivation to start new industry. Wanna see a bunch of heads get busy? Legalize weed.
4/20 will be a government holiday. Buy American! - meddelem, on 11/02/2009, -0/+2.. hemporium
.. hemperor
.. hemptacular :) - captspaulding, on 11/02/2009, -1/+3They would rather have violent drug cartels get the money, it seems. Tax weed and pay for the health care reform easily.
- lukedamonkey, on 11/02/2009, -1/+3Of course it would spur growth nationwide, setting up a legal industry takes money and people will see that immediately the day it's legalized. Entrepreneurship will explode in the nation, with the Green gold rush that law will unleash.

- oldcrows40, on 11/02/2009, -1/+1I'm planning on attending Oaksterdam University in a couple years.
- battmann, on 11/02/2009, -1/+1It's always been a social movement with cash flow. Sorry it took so many years and so many innocent deaths along with it due to prohibition and double standards. When are the pot smokers going to see freedom for once like all the drinkers and heroin addicts?
- SubversiveVibe, on 11/02/2009, -1/+1If you legalized the crack you might find you have much less murder.
- Trav1289, on 11/02/2009, -1/+1I have seeds, and moment they says 'Its ok now" In the ground they go, after a few months or so in comes the money.
- danfive555, on 11/02/2009, -2/+1Yeah let's legalize crack and murder for the sake of Oakland.
- swraman, on 11/02/2009, -2/+1theres a shady medical marijuana place a block from my apartment in south Berkeley (3 blocks from the oakland border).
They always had 2 bouncers sittin outside...but they had some pretty healthy lookin people goin in there for purchaces. - anthropodeus, on 11/02/2009, -3/+1i'm all for legalization, but
pics or it didnt happen - poprocksandsoda, on 11/02/2009, -5/+3Hopefully they can legalize it soon. Imagine how many jobs there would be in Oakland alone if crack were legal.
- sunnybrick, on 11/02/2009, -2/+0bs
- poprocksandsoda, on 11/02/2009, -3/+1I agree. I think if we legalized crack, meth and coke it would free up a lot of jobs in this country.
- ebfalls, on 11/02/2009, -4/+1Cannabis Science works with World Authorities on phytocannabinoid science targeting critical illnesses. Adhering to scientific methodologies to develop, produce, and commercialize phytocannabinoid based pharmaceutical products. You can profit from the marijuana industry legally from anywhere by purchasing stock in this company. It is listed as CBIS . http://74.125.93.132/search?q=cache:SuhN2GLaxMIJ:w ...
- jckat2000, on 11/02/2009, -4/+0Nice rack on the lady holding the marijuana plant.
- stinkynavajoe, on 11/01/2009, -25/+5Marijuana spurs business in oakland because oakland is full of poor people who have nothing better to do than get stoned. This is why they have no jobs and wait for handouts...you know...democrats.
- odkin, on 11/02/2009, -26/+3"Medical" marijuana. How do the leftists manage to get all their euphemisms adopted? Oh, that's right, the media are on their side.
Actual science using all the active ingredients of marijuana prove that if there is any benefit at all (unlikely), it can be acheived without getting high. Anyone who thinks claims this is about "compassion" or "suffering" is full of ***** - they either just want to get high or they just want to make money.
I think society is stupid enough without acces to yet another legal brain-fogger.
