- BeShirtHappy, on 02/25/2009, -5/+58I hereby submit my request for monies to improve and/or enhance my home office and a new laptop, for starters.
- mynameisjudge, on 02/26/2009, -7/+41$20 billion to a College Corners man who states "I have a few projects to work on around the Boone household, and as long as Uncle Sugar is passing out money from the paychecks of future generations, I thought why not stick it to those yet unborn suckers, the ones we don't abort first, of course. Oh, you may conclude there might be a couple of planned cost overruns, but you know how those darned government funded projects go."
Nice! - asnider, on 02/26/2009, -3/+36Can't blame people for trying. Now, if the government actually granted these requests, it would be a different story.
- Pseudorious, on 02/26/2009, -3/+32Did anyone not see this coming?
- d2002, on 02/26/2009, -6/+30# $1.2 million for a Tiffin company to grow hydroponic produce and distribute it to poor people.
That sounds like a pot growing operation. Sweet! - MrColdheart, on 02/26/2009, -0/+19"$1.2 million for a Tiffin company to grow hydroponic produce and distribute it to poor people."
If they refine that to $1.2 million to educate and help poor people create, grow and maintain a co-op garden in their neighborhood; Then I'd be all for it. - inigomntoya, on 02/26/2009, -1/+20After reading this list, your request actually sounds reasonable.
- mcquitty, on 02/26/2009, -1/+19And for that reason, it will be denied.
- maxlightz, on 02/25/2009, -0/+18request denied on the basis that you will be spending the money outside of the U.S.
in order to waste taxpayer money it must be done inside of the U.S. - radicalchaos, on 02/26/2009, -3/+20Let me see if I get this straight:
We give our money to the government in the form of taxes,
then we beg and plead with them to get it back?
Why don't we just keep our money in the first place? Am I crazy or something? - inactive, on 02/26/2009, -3/+18I voted for Ron.
Most diggers voted for Obama. I'd say most didn't see this coming. - Olelefty, on 02/26/2009, -1/+16Furriners don't get stimulized you poofy Brit
- Shawn4168, on 02/26/2009, -2/+17That guy deserves the stimulus money more than anybody else on this list.
- executorzz, on 02/26/2009, -2/+17Requesting money for the Human Fund.
- Sta99erInn, on 02/25/2009, -3/+17Can I put in a request for carpal tunnel surgery as I obviously spend way too many hours in front of my stupid computer. Oh and I should let you know now that I will probably use that money to book a month long vacation at a private island to ease my recovery back to work so I will need the money for that as well, and remember I only do things first class.
- atomheartmother, on 02/26/2009, -3/+14Most of the earmarks are from Democrats.
- govsucks, on 02/26/2009, -7/+18Don't forget teaching newspapers how to use the internet. I asked Obama to buy me a new butt, mine is cracked. I'm less fortunate than others.
"A democracy will last until the people learn they can vote themselves money from the public treasury." We are witnessing the fall of our great republic to a bunch of greedy collectivist groups each trying to get a pound of fat for free instead of creating it themselves.
Collectivism is destroying our financial stability and our freedom as human beings. - Calamier, on 02/26/2009, -3/+14I used to work for a public school district and I can say with certainty that there is a LOT of merit in this statement :
"As I reviewed these many requests, I found myself wondering just how many of these were 'shovel ready' because they were already budgeted? How many communities are simply sticking their own money back in their pockets until they see if they can get stimulus funds instead?" --Tom Barlow
My boss used to spend our IT department budget on ridiculous things that would never be approved by the government funding, and would use the e-rate money to buy the equipment that money was originally given for.
It's basically the "School District" version of a mother of 6 using her alimony money to buy cigarettes, beer, and trips to the local native-american casinos, while she uses food stamps to feed her family. - fleischner, on 02/26/2009, -4/+15Senator Chuck Schumer (D, NY): "And let me say this to all the chattering classes that so much focus on those little, tiny, yes porky amendments. The American people really don’t care."
- pogoman11, on 02/26/2009, -1/+11It would be nice if you read the article. These are requests, not passed items.
- shauncorleone, on 02/26/2009, -2/+11I would like $2 million to conduct a study on the connection between legal prostitution and general happiness of men in Western Society.
- pogoman11, on 02/26/2009, -0/+9The Human Fund: Money for People.
- Mpwns, on 02/26/2009, -0/+9it may in California soon.
- Richford123, on 02/26/2009, -6/+15Can i have £55 for a prostitute and a packet of fags?
- durruticolumn, on 09/18/2009, -1/+9
People can ask for whatever they want, that doesn't mean they're gonna get it. The stimulus has a stipulation that governors have to report back transparently about how the money is being used. Which means, if they're squandering it on stupid requests, it's up to the voters to pay attention and vote them out. - dbixler, on 02/26/2009, -0/+8Actually, the fact that this document is publicly available including email addresses and phone numbers is fantastic. It's (somewhat rare) proof of how our system works. Also, as so many above have noted, these are "REQUESTS" for funds, and despite some of the obvious crap ones, there are some good requests as well. In my opinion, Ohio is on the ball by posting this for everyone to see. At least now you know who to blame for the pork and have direct ways for contacting them to bitch about it.
- inactive, on 02/26/2009, -1/+8I request a 400 billion dollar stimulus for my airport that i'm going to build in my basement in florida.
Also a flying car and home of tomorrow.
I'm waiting for my check. Interest is compounding daily. I'm not paying tax on it either. - pogoman11, on 02/26/2009, -0/+7Hey, beer, cigarette and gambling earnings are some of the highest taxed things in government. If she's spending her money on that, more money for us.
And yes, my tongue is in my cheek. - vladimirk, on 02/26/2009, -4/+11you had me at package!
- AmyVernon, on 02/26/2009, -0/+7It would have totally sounded that way if they'd just done this:
"...to grow hydroponic 'produce' and distribute it ..." - StigNordas, on 02/26/2009, -2/+9"$1.2 million for a Tiffin company to grow hydroponic produce and distribute it to poor people." Is pot considered produce?
- inactive, on 02/26/2009, -0/+6So why not try to pass the supposedly-tiny but DEFINITELY-porky part separately?
- harryhood, on 02/26/2009, -5/+11wrong, if the ideas were any good then the government wouldn't be needed.
- SmpleJohn, on 02/26/2009, -6/+12Umm... that would require actually working. If we do that the government won't take care of us. What are you thinking?!?
- KenSPT, on 02/26/2009, -7/+12Many Republicans have been saying this all along, but sadly far more Democrats simply ignored them ...
- orithidon, on 02/26/2009, -1/+6It's people!! PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!
- bobburn1, on 02/26/2009, -2/+7I needs money, can I has it?
Besides, these requests seem about as reasonable as throwing away $800B. - Tbyrd073, on 02/26/2009, -0/+4Silly rabbit stimuli are for bankers.
- offrdbandit, on 02/26/2009, -0/+4Only $20k?
- MWeather, on 02/26/2009, -1/+5"If we do that the government won't take care of us. What are you thinking?!?"
Sure they will. Do you think poor people can afford the land for a community garden? It'll be government subsidised.. - Yurikov, on 02/26/2009, -4/+8I demand more monies for the construction of additional Pylons!
- d2002, on 02/26/2009, -0/+4Now that's a stimulus I can get behind.
- atomheartmother, on 02/26/2009, -3/+7One thing I do agree with the Democrats on.... most of these projects indeed are "shovel ready," as long as you've also got a scooper handy.
- jsffive, on 02/26/2009, -2/+5The government steals from the people, then "gives" us ten percent "NASA", and ninety percent "bridge to nowhere"... They'll steal money from the people, and then "create" jobs, digging holes one day, and then filling them in on the next day.
And the whole time, the fawning media will be telling you that ***** is in fact, Shinola... And because the people have been polarized into thinking that "their guy" is the "good guy", and that the "other side" is in fact, the "bad guy", we'll be so distracted with arguing THAT point, that we won't notice the rampant theft that's going on all around us, and how it's ultimately being given to people who don't actually need it. - Nickolassc, on 02/26/2009, -0/+3The reason you have student loans in the first place is because colleges were able to raise their prices when they found out the government would give loans out to anyone who wanted them.
It's a vicious scam that needs to end. - neilschelly, on 02/26/2009, -5/+8These aren't fundamentally different or any sillier than the requests the government has already submitted to.
-N - adamwrose, on 02/26/2009, -0/+3All joking aside. I like what John Stewart - Daily Show had to say. Why don't they stimulate the consumer? Have us pay off our mortgages and debts and start fresh. Let us stimulate the economy.
Of course, when you get actual people involved, things get messed up. - jknevitt, on 02/26/2009, -0/+3You require more Vespene Gas.
- BAM22, on 02/26/2009, -0/+3What needs to be done is every single person who is requesting money needs to write a legit business plan... then Ohio can sift through all the BS and make a semi-decent decision. Make these people work for what they want..
- gopher043, on 02/26/2009, -0/+3amightywynde? more like a fart in the breeze.
