Laid Off CompUSA Employees Sneak Photos on Online Store
engadget.com — So you're about to be laid off by you megacorporation that thoroughly mismanaged its position in the market and is giving you the shaft because of it. What's a CompUSA employee to do? We'd say adding your own photos to LCD product shots on the online store is as good a way as any.

- davidrools, on 01/10/2008, -1/+7here's a bunch on the compusa site. check em out before it's fixed
http://www.compusa.com/products/products.asp?N=200 ... - diggernick, on 01/10/2008, -2/+2yeah. i woulda put my buttcheeks on all of em.
- NSMike, on 01/10/2008, -0/+1Is that Commander Riker in the top center?
- BoneStamp, on 01/10/2008, -5/+130They have access to the online store content and that's the best they could come up with? No wonder the company went out of business.
- metamorfoza, on 01/10/2008, -1/+21Don't want to be a pedant pig (and your comment is kinda funny) , but if they did anything else (post nude pictures for example) compUSA would get into serious trouble = >they get in serious trouble => ***** hits the fan => they never get another job.
This is looks like subtle peaceful protest. Like graffiti, for example, instead of bombs.- Urusai, on 01/10/2008, -8/+2Bombs get more done.
- BossKey, on 01/10/2008, -3/+5Yeah, that little Iraq thing took about as little time as they originally promised! In and out.
- BoneStamp, on 01/10/2008, -1/+2I'm just saying they could have more fun than that. They could list new products, like the parent company and put a crazy price tag on it like a dollar, and make it out of stock so nobody could actually try to buy it.
- Urusai, on 01/10/2008, -8/+2Bombs get more done.
- heliox, on 01/10/2008, -2/+21Maybe they didn't want to be douche bags?
- BoneStamp, on 01/10/2008, -1/+2There's lots of fun you could have without being a douche bag. What about creating a Fighter Jet category and filling it with multi million dollar jets, all out of stock of course so nobody could actually try to buy one.
- smacksaw, on 01/10/2008, -2/+3That was never really CompUSA's corporate culture. I've probably been to/worked at (because of my positions there) half of the stores they had and that wasn't really how it went. CompUSA was a snobby family club, not a vulgar comedy troupe.
- BoneStamp, on 01/10/2008, -1/+2It doesn't need to be vulgar, almost anything would be better than poorly photoshopping their face onto a monitor.
- yojiffyskippy, on 01/10/2008, -2/+3I agree. It's a clear sign of lack of creativity.

that said, pretty cool idea- Mononuclear, on 01/10/2008, -1/+8I think posting lolcats, dramitc chipmunk, and many other internet memes in photos would have been much better. Posting a screenshot of firefox at a website with a headline making fun of CompUSA. or a screen visting a competitors website. There are a billion things you could do just with replacing product photos.
- smacksaw, on 01/10/2008, -2/+2I bet you're the kind of person who goes to your best friend's funeral and takes a dump in the open casket. What? Inappropriate. They aren't saying "***** you" as much as they're saying "real people here"
I hope that falls under your "billion things you could do" because some people can rise above the juvenile when it's appropriate.

- asurroca, on 01/10/2008, -1/+41This is proof that no one on 4chan works at CompUSA...
- arcooke, on 01/10/2008, -3/+6They're too busy infesting Digg.
- djcreamy, on 01/10/2008, -9/+2It's funny - everyone on 4chan today was pissy about being infested by Digg. Truth: most Diggers are /b/tards, and visa versa.
- xsquirrel378x, on 01/10/2008, -5/+8thats because most diggfags are fags

- androothebear, on 01/10/2008, -1/+4OH THE HUMANITY!
- myranttoyou, on 01/10/2008, -6/+3With ***** employess like that, no wonder the company is tanking.
And, if losing your job at CompUSA is "getting the shaft", then someone clearly hasn't been royally been screwed in life yet. Bankrupt companies have to make tough decisions.- bushawa, on 01/10/2008, -0/+5Come on, know one saw this coming? For pete sakes the company was bought up by the richest man in Mexico (Carlos Slim) who has made his money by exploiting workers. Do you really think he could run a legit business? Anyway, who cares? Who still buys the worth while electronics at brick and mortar stores? Best Buy, CompUSA, Circut City, Fry's Electronics and god knows what else all pretty much suck so why bother?
- bingobongony, on 01/10/2008, -1/+6Yah..who needs references! I mean...they worked at CompUSA! With that on your resume, the world is your oyster!
- Mouser58907, on 01/10/2008, -1/+3That's some ***** editing, but the idea is awesome.
- Vector713, on 01/10/2008, -3/+1You'd think the management would have caught and fixed this by now.
Shameful situation all around.... - XStatic, on 01/10/2008, -0/+8It wasn't done by "Employees" it was one guy that got the photos off the corporate meta directory of ID badge photos.
- jamelt, on 01/10/2008, -2/+1That chick is pretty hot.
- rnreekez, on 01/10/2008, -0/+5Yeah, I think the widescreen doesn't do her justice. Oh wait...that's not widescreen.....ehh.....
- unfanderful, on 01/10/2008, -4/+0To hell with those *****. CompUSA is a second-rate Fry's selling cheap ***** for triple price, and these floorwalkers were just their pushers anyhoo.
- PerfectMac, on 01/10/2008, -0/+3dilbert would be proud. or dogbert.
- tones1, on 01/10/2008, -6/+1I would have put a picture of my penis on one of the monitors.
- ajchavar, on 01/10/2008, -0/+6i dunno if they have a high enough contrast ratio to make something like that show up, and you'd need an HD monitor anyway, to be able to see it.
- arcticwookie, on 01/10/2008, -1/+0CompUSA doesn't sell a monitor big enough to fit my penis on it!
- BaronSamedi242, on 01/10/2008, -3/+2CompUSA can rot in hell. They advertised 12 months no interest, but when i paid off my balance off they added "interest charges", never advised me of this, and now have me in collections to the tune of $300. Never bothered notifying me of the convenience of a $29 late fee every month they never sent a statement about, and wrecked my credit!
Lying, corrupt and backstabbing?
***** COMPUSA. May they rot in hell the next time they try reanimating their soulless ass.- heliox, on 01/10/2008, -1/+5What makes you think we give a ***** about your experiences?
- smacksaw, on 01/10/2008, -1/+2Well, if I remember correctly this likely makes you a dumbass. However, I will explain and then help you if I am wrong.
I am guessing you paid the "administration fee" which is a flat rate you pay to get zero interest in lieu of interest. If you are buying something that is very costly and would be more than the fee, it is a good deal. If not, it's better to pay the interest or pay it off early. If you read your contract, I think that is what you will find.
However, that being said, I will assume that you are right. They somehow made a mistake in the automated computer and the 12 statements they sent you with the administration fee was not on there, nor was it on the contract printed on the 3 foot long receipt you get. Let's say you're somehow in the right.
You have a legal right to validate the debt. Even *I* as a former CompUSA employee had someone steal a $700 monitor I returned and canceled my credit after I left. I disputed it with Beneficial, got the police involved and had the debt wiped since Beneficial could not prove that I had the monitor and the credit/resale of the item was not signed off by me.
If this is not a valid debt, by law they must provide proof to you in writing. You are asking them IN writing to "validate the debt" back to you in writing. If they cannot, you can sue them to have the debt removed (if it goes that far). You go to small claims court, say it's not a valid debt and they will have to pay all costs - especially since they won't show up. You also need to contact your 3 credit bureaus afterward, but they will remove it from your record. And if you've won in court and they sell your debt to another collector you can sue them for big civil damages, which is when you get an actual attorney.
I guess we'll see if $300 is worth it to you to fix it and to find out if you got screwed or can't follow directions. My experience is that 99% of you never read the fine print, and back when I was a little monkey selling boxes I know no one ever listened to me when I explained how the financing worked so people would get NO accrued charges since they would come back 22 days after the 6th month and complain about all of their interest and we'd have to call BNB or whoever and tell them to fix it.- androo002345, on 01/10/2008, -1/+1The only reason you know this ***** is cause you worked at CompUSA. Everything you said went over everybody elses head.
As a consumer all of this should have been explained to him when he bought what he bought...not after he had to figure out that he needed to read the fine print to see that his deal wasn't as sweet as promised.- smacksaw, on 01/10/2008, -0/+1CompUSA taught me nothing about credit reports, and as far as credit card plans go, 98% of people read the contract just fine. CompUSA didn't teach me reading comprehension, either. I attribute that to the nuns at my school.
- balthisar, on 01/10/2008, -0/+0What? Should have had stuff explained to him? Dude, you're so not ready for the real friggin' world.
- androo002345, on 01/17/2008, -0/+1Nah, i'm ready. The reason this upsets me is because I worked for at&t's customer service for a couple of years and I got tired of people going into stores and not having everything explained to him. Justl ike the guy above, it says 12 months no interest but then in June they tacked it all one...stuff like that is put deep in the contracts with I would bet about 80% of people don't even read. I always read them because of where I worked and know that businesses can be shady. But I'll bet this guy didn't and now he's trying to make it seem like it was CompUSA's fault. But really, consumers should be told every little thing about what they're buying. It would save companies a lot of hassle in the future.
- BaronSamedi242, on 01/12/2008, -0/+0I can read fine, dicksmack. And when it says "12 months no interest", the item was bought in September and they tacked on "interest charges" in June....
Looks like they're the ones that can't read. Well, they can, they're just assholes.
- androo002345, on 01/10/2008, -1/+1The only reason you know this ***** is cause you worked at CompUSA. Everything you said went over everybody elses head.

- agimat, on 01/10/2008, -0/+3I guess LCDs on sale are the new milk cartons.
- kurtwinter, on 01/10/2008, -1/+1Sorry ex-employees, but your employer sucked, sold ***** goods at high prices, gouging the clueless on upgrades that were obsolete out of the box. I've been laid off before, and you'll find new work. I used to work for Arthur Andersen (didn't renew my temp contract) and AT&T (downsized my division) and the world IS a better place without them in it. Good luck.
- smacksaw, on 01/10/2008, -0/+1Arthur Anderson + Enron = > than CompUSA
Truly funny.
- smacksaw, on 01/10/2008, -0/+1Arthur Anderson + Enron = > than CompUSA
- gsadamb, on 01/10/2008, -0/+1In related news, I just stopped by a CompUSA tonight on a whim. Managed to snag a projector for a couple hundred bucks off.
Very sad situation, though. It's a literal "everything must go" sale. In addition to all the normal merchandise, they're selling store fixtures, employee lockers, workstations, chairs, the safe, cabinets... everything.- Mpwns, on 01/10/2008, -0/+2not so much of a everything must go sale online :(
- Kingster, on 01/10/2008, -0/+1I think I would have put the "higher-ups" photos on there with a mugshot type placard in front of them. Or maybe some derogatory terms. Something better than THAT. Anything would be.

- BOFH139, on 01/10/2008, -0/+2Have a look around Peats.com site, Irish version of CompUSA where is alot of weird ***** on the product pic's including staff, random people and lolcats.....
- Chassit, on 01/10/2008, -2/+1CompUSA was doomed to failure. These people are at fault for working there in the first place.

- BoneStamp, on 01/10/2008, -0/+3Um, I think the company went out of business. That's life telling them to get a new job.
- riverstyx, on 01/10/2008, -1/+1I can see why compusa went out of business by the looks of those people. Not one hot girl or someone who looks like they know a damn thing about running a computer business.
Article is inaccurate anyway, they aren't a "Megacorporation". - mahdaeng, on 01/10/2008, -0/+2Hey everyone! I've got an idea! Let's start a web site consisting of one-paragraph blurbs accompanying a photo which don't really tell the reader much of anything at all, and then fill 90% of the page with advertising. Now we just need to come up with a good name for it. Hmmm....something like....I don't know.....maybe "engadget"?
- fzagruzny, on 01/10/2008, -0/+0that's funny... how did they do it?
employers like CompUSA really demonstrate the necessity for effective money management tools (Geezeo.com is my favorite !) - theRIAA, on 01/10/2008, -0/+2where did it go....
D: - ocean980, on 01/12/2008, -0/+1How about tellin' 'em they could become entrepreneurs in their own right and publish a few pdf ebooks about their 'corporate misadventures...' with a passion!
