http://www.thecomedynetwork.ca/shows/showdetails.a ... - seeyouinteatime, on 03/19/2009, -4/+80I may get dugg down for this, but I thought it was worth mentioning. From the reports I've read and heard, the only bonuses that were given out were given on a basis of commitment of time to the company and NOT performance. "You've worked X years, here's your bonus." These bonuses are incorporated throughout the business world and are considered important (depending upon whom you ask, obviously). This hasn't been noted by MSM.
THAT BEING SAID: there's no ***** way they deserve this money. It's not theirs. It's not their company's. It's the taxpayers'. I think the amount these people who were responsible for overseeing this ***** are getting paid is mind-blowing. They should be fired. They should be thrown in prison. They should not be allowed to ***** up another business again.
Now, THAT being said, I think it's important that we not dwell on this for too long. Yes, it's outrageous- but it's not the main issue. The more time we spend cheering ourselves on about how unfair it is, the less time we spend talking about the changes in policy, leadership and, above all, changes in the way our wealth in this country is earned. Not by backdoor dealings and get rich quick schemes, but honest, hard work and entrepreneurial ability. THAT is the outrage. - vln004, on 03/19/2009, -3/+35somehow, I still don't feel any better. They need to send all those crooks to jail, not make fun of them.
- spritom, on 03/19/2009, -2/+34* Congress and President Obama push for stimulus plan
* Inside stimulus plan is specific clauses in order for AIG to pay out these bonuses
* Congress passes the bill
* President Obama signs his name on the bill making it a law
* AIG pays the bonuses
* Congress and Obama get angry. - convergent, on 03/19/2009, -11/+41Why is Jon Stewart so amazing?
- Bagos1, on 03/19/2009, -1/+20The real crooks are the idiots who gave the bailout.
- MikeDirntRulez, on 03/19/2009, -0/+19I think Rep. Paul Hodes from NH said it best:
"AIG now stands for arrogance, incompetence, and greed," - cambob76, on 03/19/2009, -0/+18That filthy slut!
- PterionFracture, on 03/19/2009, -7/+25AIG = Ain't I Greedy
- Moonman13, on 03/19/2009, -2/+17He's been nailing everyone lately.
- DinosWillDie13, on 03/19/2009, -1/+15dugg for "use your shut-the-*****-up face."
This guy never gets old. Too bad he is actually right in this situation.
hahaha oooooh the economic pain. - mattz007, on 03/19/2009, -3/+17Don't forget about the writers.
- mytealjacket, on 03/19/2009, -6/+19Simple, he speaks the truth
- facttech, on 03/19/2009, -1/+14Check the facts (summarized with links to sources at http://www.salon.com/opinion/greenwald/2009/03/17/ ... Dodd did not think up the grandfather clause to preserve AIG bonuses, and originally worked for language that would have prevented any bonuses for at least the top 25 people of any firm taking bailout money. Unfortunately, he *did* agree to change this stance under extreme pressure from none other than the Obama administration. It's unfair to accuse him of trying to preserve these bonuses, but don't ignore the fact that he let the public down by caving.
- jamesmon01, on 03/19/2009, -4/+17Um, no I think he means the one that Dodd just admitted to putting in the bailout bill.

Are you awake? - sirellyn, on 03/18/2009, -6/+18Love John Stewart. Hate when they restrict videos to one country.
- alihaq717, on 03/19/2009, -5/+16"These guys should have got the Nobel Prize for Evil".
- TheCash, on 03/19/2009, -5/+16Any chance he'll be going after Geitner, seeing how he was the front man for the original AIG bailout back in November, and could have done something to block these bonuses months ago? Or how about Senator Dodd, for putting in that ***** bonus exemption clause into the 787 billion bailout that was passed last month? What about Obama for that matter? Any word yet on whether or not he'll be giving back the 100+ grand AIG gave to his presidential campaign last year?
- Fukanzen, on 03/19/2009, -0/+11Considering the state of things it's kind of a given.
- Ductapemaster, on 03/19/2009, -0/+10A voice of reason, thank you. This is a ***** situation, but we do need to move on to more pressing issues.
- Clad, on 03/19/2009, -2/+11No.
- psypher, on 03/19/2009, -0/+7Because he already did that in either this episode or last nights. He mention his, McCains and someone else.
- lordterrin, on 03/19/2009, -1/+7I could care less if he's a talking head for your ass, I like what he says, I like his points, I like how he appears to be honest, especially in his interviews, and he doesn't seem, at least on the surface, to buy into the whole "I'm famous I can do whatever I want" ***** that is on every network. I like him, if you don't, that's fine. :) Welcome to America.
- 69fezz96, on 03/19/2009, -0/+6It's all misdirected rage.
$165million out of a $750billion bailout.
The Federal Reserve just injected $1trillion into the system out of thin air.
That is where "they" are directing the rage away from. - hammerpants, on 03/19/2009, -1/+7So...you don't know how American politics works, huh?
- ukiya, on 03/19/2009, -14/+20For us Canadians: http://www.thecomedynetwork.ca/shows/showdetails.a ...
- lordterrin, on 03/19/2009, -5/+11So, this brings the "people I trust in the public spotlight" list up to two now: Ron Paul and Jon Stewart.
- Gregus1032, on 03/19/2009, -0/+6Bagos1, you're absolutely right.
They should have let those companies go belly up. It would be a rough year or so but there would be a better *chance* of all those CEO's getting thrown in jail and the dollar wouldn't be ***** like it's going to be. - lewystud, on 03/19/2009, -2/+7if you were in their position you would definitely take the bonus if you were legally entitled to it - and if you say you wouldn't then you aren't putting yourself in their shoes
- Nintendesert, on 03/19/2009, -5/+10You mean the one he just owned up to? You ***** kool-aid drinking tool.
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2009/03/18/br ... - brid57, on 03/19/2009, -0/+5Oh your that guy that...
The anti-Bury line "I may get dugg down for this, but...." - drowe, on 03/19/2009, -0/+5@nhand42 - If you read the article by your beloved Glenn Greenwald, you'll notice that while Dodd initially may have tried to prevent the bonus payments, he _gave in_ to Geithner and Obama, which shows the character and integrity (I know, politicians, right?) he has. So, don't act like Dodd isn't partially to blame here, he certainly could have stood his ground. I'm sure there would have been political backlash for him either way, but to act like he's the innocent patriot here, is not appropriate.
- jayjayjoni, on 03/19/2009, -3/+8Jon Stewart. Seeker of Truth.
- dagamer34, on 03/19/2009, -5/+10He makes fun of the news media by pointing out their foolishness!
And people thought he'd have a hard time finding material with Obama as president. He's practically stumbling all over the stuff! - rabidjester, on 03/19/2009, -0/+5He did last night, or the night before. He mentioned how much Obama, McCain and Dodd received from AIG in donations. Do try to keep up.

http://watch.thecomedynetwork.ca/the-daily-show-wi ... - senae, on 03/19/2009, -1/+5So they just hate Canada then?
What the Christ? - seeyouinteatime, on 03/19/2009, -0/+4No, I'm the guy who reminds you "you're" is a contraction.
And I truthfully thought people would frown upon me stating that the amount of attention this is garnishing is proving to be a distraction.
Also, I dugg your comment because you called me out. Kudos, - lordterrin, on 03/19/2009, -0/+4what country can you not watch it in? I've watched the comedy central jon stewart videos from both France and Belgium and they work fine...
- admntlv, on 03/19/2009, -1/+5'been fully debunked by Glenn Greenwald" -- yeah that one.
Seriously man, democrats ***** up also. Maybe you should continue to read "TheCash's" comment and stop reading Greenwald...just a suggestion. - inactive, on 03/19/2009, -3/+7He has a brain in his head and he uses it for good.
- TheCash, on 03/19/2009, -0/+4@nhand42
Ouch dude... you got owned. And who the hell is this Glenn Greenwald cat anyway? Is he worth googling, or is he just another loud mouthed pundit?
Oh, and I forgot to bring up the fact that Dodd also got 102 grand from AIG in 2008, but it's probably pointless now as it's been all over CNN, CNBC, MSNBC and Foxnews all night long. - Chirp08, on 03/19/2009, -2/+6Well AIG is contractually obligated to give those bonuses out. If not we have 300 lawsuits for their bonus money, and guess who would end up paying for that anyway?
- admntlv, on 03/19/2009, -0/+4Dude, why are you all over Glenn Greenwald's ***** and balls? If Dodd had nothing to do with it, he simply would say so -- over and over again if need be, instead he is dancing around the issue like a school girl. I am not a republican, but i know a swindle when i see one, i imagine you are smart enough to see it also...but who knows.
- mparker21311, on 03/19/2009, -1/+4Arrogant Incompetent Greed
- inactive, on 03/19/2009, -5/+8Oh dude, that lawyer skit at the end made me laugh so hard, it made the soda i was drinking come out of my nose.
- hammerpants, on 03/19/2009, -0/+3Upvoted for quoting something that was in the video we just watched ten seconds ago.
- anixmander, on 03/20/2009, -0/+3And as politician, he would know exactly what those words mean.
- DirtPile, on 03/19/2009, -1/+4What does the "I" stand for in "Ain't I Greedy"?
- beachtrader, on 03/19/2009, -1/+3Actually the DOJ said the legal basis that AIG is asserting that these are obligated bonuses is not binding.
